Chapter 835: The Netherworld Chaos
A Gap opened in another part of the Netherworld, and Lingyun and the other stepped out from it.
"Ugh, this really is a grand welcoming ceremony!" Lingyun looked at the scene before him and couldn't help but spread his hands.
Before the two of them were Evil Spirits that stretched as far as the eye could see. Upon seeing Lingyun and the other, these Evil Spirits were stunned for a moment, then let out excited hisses and lunged in their direction.
"It seems something has indeed happened in the Netherworld; otherwise, it would be impossible for so many Evil Spirits to suddenly appear," Yakumo Yukari said, frowning.
"Now is not the time to talk about that. I've noticed these guys are really quite excited after seeing us!" Lingyun shook his head helplessly, spread his hands, and the Purification Light swept out.
Watching the Evil Spirits turn into flying ash under the Purification Light, Yakumo Yukari likewise raised her hands. Countless Gaps opened around her, and the light bullets spat out wave after wave, reaping the Evil Spirits that lunged forward.
Under their powerful sweep, the Evil Spirits around them were wiped out entirely. The Evil Spirits in the distance also realized that these two living beings were not the soft persimmons they had imagined; the fear in their hearts overcame the desire to devour the living, which kept them from approaching Lingyun and the other. However, they did not leave, but instead circled around the two, waiting for an opportunity. As long as the two showed the slightest sign of weakness, they would surely swarm them and devour their flesh and blood in the most cruel way possible.
"I really don't know what happened to this Netherworld. Are those Yama and Grim Reapers all just freeloaders?" Looking at those Evil Spirits, Yakumo Yukari couldn't help but complain.
"To be spoken of like that by you, the Sage of Youkai, I truly feel a bit subtle in my heart!" Just at this moment, a voice suddenly came over.
Yakumo Yukari turned her head to look, and a small figure was standing on a stone not far away. Behind her was the Grim Reaper they had encountered earlier.
The young girl wore a blue-toned, very solemn robe, with "Right" and "Wrong" embroidered on her shoulders. She wore a crown on her head and an octagonal Glass Mirror of Purity hung at her waist. Her hair was green, and her delicate, cute face, like a doll's, revealed a mature, adult demeanor. In the girl's hand, she also held the Rod of Remorse for passing judgment.
"Humans!" Onozuka Komachi gripped the Grim Reaper Scythe in her hand, clearly still resentful about being restrained by Lingyun's move earlier.
Lingyun raised his hand, and chains appeared beside him. Seeing these chains, Shiki Eiki's eyes narrowed involuntarily. These chains were somewhat strange; even she could not shatter them. However, the duration of these chains seemed limited, and they automatically disappeared after a certain amount of time.
"Hmph—" Seeing the chains in Lingyun's hand, Onozuka Komachi couldn't help but shrink her head. A good Grim Reaper doesn't suffer immediate losses; she would teach him a lesson when she had the chance!
"A very interesting chain." Shiki Eiki's gaze turned toward Lingyun, and a look of surprise appeared on her face.
As a Yama, she was born with the ability to judge good and evil, but when she looked at Lingyun, she discovered that she actually could not see the other's good or evil.
"This is truly a strange person. Among humans, is there really such a person, or is it that this person's karmic debt has already exceeded the range I can see?" Shiki Eiki couldn't help but mutter in her heart.
"Yama, you must be the Chief Judge of the Netherworld, right? Then, can you tell me what exactly happened in the Netherworld?" Yakumo Yukari stepped forward and asked. "Isn't the Netherworld always under your control? Why would there be so many Evil Spirits?"
"This..." Shiki Eiki hesitated, clearly not wanting to inform the two of the current situation in the Netherworld.
"If you say it, perhaps we might have a way to solve it? After all, we won't leave the Netherworld until our business is finished!" Lingyun said.
"You, do you intend to be enemies with the Netherworld?" Hearing Lingyun say this, Shiki Eiki gripped the Rod of Remorse in her hand, and her expression became unfriendly.
Lingyun gripped with one hand, and wisps of electric light overflowed from his hand; a red figure flashed past him and vanished.
"This is the aura of a Netherworld deity? You, who exactly are you?" Feeling the aura that flashed past on Lingyun, Shiki Eiki couldn't help but widen her eyes. Clearly, in her perception, this person was just a human, but why would a human have the aura of a deity, and the aura of a Netherworld deity at that?
"Me? I'm just a human!" Lingyun said with a smile.
"You—" Hearing Lingyun's perfunctory answer, Shiki Eiki couldn't help but puff out her cheeks.
"Now, it's time to talk about what happened in this Netherworld." Lingyun said.
"If you can really assist us in solving it, then I will tell you." Shiki Eiki said.
The Netherworld governs all the spirits in this world, is responsible for judging these spirits, and sends them into the Cycle. However, among these spirits, there are always some that are different—either trapped by obsession, bound by hatred, or for other miscellaneous reasons—unable to attain Buddhahood and unable to enter the Cycle. Over a long period of time, the sanity of these spirits is gradually worn away, slowly turning into Vengeful Spirits or even Evil Spirits.
These Evil Spirits are not tolerated by the World of the Living, nor are they accepted by the Netherworld; they can only drift between the yin and yang realms. However, controlled by resentment, they are often able to cause harm to both realms, and this kind of thing is absolutely not allowed.
All along, whether it be the Netherworld or the World of the Living, they have never been soft on these Vengeful Spirits and have suppressed them without exception. However, as time passes, the number of Vengeful Spirits in this world has become increasingly vast, the number evolving into Evil Spirits has also increased, and even quite a few Fierce Spirits have appeared. The most troublesome part is that they have actually affected ordinary spirits, causing them to have a trend of mutation.
Under these circumstances, the Netherworld has had to divert a portion of its forces to deal with these guys without affecting the operation of its own system. However, the effect has not been very good; the calamity of spirits in the Netherworld even has a trend of intensifying, and it has even begun to affect the present world.
"This really is a big trouble!" Lingyun nodded.
"If only someone could appear to rule over those Vengeful Spirits!" Onozuka Komachi couldn't help but mutter.
"Someone to rule over the spirits?" A bright light flashed in Lingyun's eyes, and he muttered in a low voice, "So that's the idea the Will of the Netherworld has in mind!"
"Will of the Netherworld? What are you talking about?" Shiki Eiki, who had excellent hearing, discovered that she seemed to have heard something incredible.
"Nothing, well, we still have things to do, we're leaving first!" Lingyun reached out and grabbed Yakumo Yukari; a Space Array unfolded beneath their feet, and they vanished before Shiki Eiki in an instant.
"These two, something is wrong!" Watching Lingyun and the other run away directly, Shiki Eiki frowned. "No, I can't let them run! Komachi!"
"Here, Lady Shiki!" Onozuka Komachi, who was leaning on her Grim Reaper Scythe and slacking off on the side, stood up straight all at once.
"Come with me to the World of the Living!" Shiki Eiki took out her Glass Mirror of Purity and began to search for the location of Lingyun and the other.
"Eh, what are we going to the World of the Living for?"
"You'll know when we get there!"
"Oh, okay!" Onozuka Komachi waved the scythe in her hand and opened the passage leading to the World of the Living.
