Chapter 904: Meeting the Norton Emperor
Only after Moduo fled did Lingyun look down at the Norton Imperial City below.
At some point, a layer of Magic Shield had already enveloped the Imperial City; this was clearly a top-tier Defensive Magic capable of withstanding a direct impact at the God Tier level. Although Lingyun and his companions had engaged in a brief God War above the Imperial City, the shield was still able to withstand the aftermath.
The reason Lingyun had kicked Moduo into mid-air earlier was precisely to give the Norton Imperial City time to activate this shield; otherwise, if the two of them had fought within the Imperial City, it was hard to say how much destruction it would have caused. Although only the aftermath splashed against the shield, it still subjected the barrier to immense pressure.
After the battle subsided, a figure flew out from the Imperial Palace and arrived before Lingyun and his two companions. It was an old man with graying hair, and powerful energy fluctuations radiated from his body; he was unmistakably a Demigod, likely one of the Norton Empire's trump cards.
The old man arrived before Lingyun and his companions, his face bearing a trace of respect and caution. He had no choice but to act this way, for the people before him were gods—three whole gods—not to mention that they had just killed a god right in front of them.
Watching the god of death with the Spear run through his body, the old man's mouth couldn't help but twitch. He had seen it clearly: that person was a hidden trump card of their Norton Imperial Family, yet he had absolutely no idea when the other party had advanced to become a god, nor why he was connected to the person who had fled. If these three gods before him were to hold them accountable, the trouble would be massive.
"This old man is Antelu, guardian of the Norton Empire. I pay my respects to the three divine lords." The old man bowed to Lingyun and his companions.
"The guardian of the Norton Empire?" Lingyun looked at the old man before him and said.
"That is indeed me. His Majesty wishes to meet with the three of you to discuss the enemy that appeared in the Imperial City this time. I wonder if you would be willing to move to the Imperial Palace?" Antelu asked cautiously.
"Let's go. If we don't go, that Emperor will likely be trembling with fear," Andiya said.
"Please!" The old man let out a sigh of relief and gestured for Lingyun and his companions to follow.
By the time Lingyun and his companions arrived at the Imperial Palace, the Norton Emperor had already investigated the events that had occurred in the Imperial City. Although his health was deteriorating day by day, his grip on the Empire had not weakened in the slightest.
"Moduo, my dear third son, how could this situation have come to pass?" The Norton Emperor frowned, his eyes full of worry.
A prince of a nation being the mastermind behind the Undead Calamity on the God-Given Continent was a major affair! If not handled properly, it could stir up a massive storm.
Seeing Lingyun and his companions arrive, the Norton Emperor set down the documents in his hand and stood up to welcome them. Even as an emperor of one of the Three Great Empires, he still had to maintain respect before gods.
"The current Emperor of the Norton Empire pays his respects to the three Highnesses." The Norton Emperor bowed slightly to Lingyun and his companions.
"Your Majesty, there is no need for such formalities," Andiya said with a wave of her hand.
"The three Highnesses took action in the Norton Imperial City—this must be regarding the mastermind behind this Continent's Undead Calamity, correct?" the Norton Emperor asked somewhat carefully.
"That is correct. I presume that with Your Majesty's capabilities, you have already discovered who this person is?" Andiya asked.
A look of difficulty appeared on the Norton Emperor's face, but he knew that concealment was meaningless, so he ultimately nodded: "It is my unfilial third son. I never imagined he would do such a thing."
"The Third Prince?" Andiya looked at the Norton Emperor's expression and sighed slightly, "Actually, His Highness the Third Prince may no longer be His Highness the Third Prince."
Hearing Andiya's words, the Norton Emperor felt a shock in his heart: "Highness, why do you say that?"
"Combining the current situation on the Continent with some records from the ancient era of our Elf Race, the one who caused this Undead Calamity should be a terrifying ancient existence: the Underworld Emperor! The current Third Prince is highly likely no longer the Third Prince, but has had his body occupied by the Underworld Emperor," Andiya explained.
Regarding the Third Prince Moduo, Andiya naturally had information on him. After all, he was someone qualified to become the next Norton Emperor; what his policies toward the Elf Race would be after taking the throne were things Andiya needed to understand. In the Moduo she knew, it was impossible for him to possess the ability to escape from Lingyun's hands, let alone injure Lingyun. That being the case, there was only one possibility: the person who attacked at that time was not Moduo, but the Underworld Emperor.
"The Underworld Emperor?"
Hearing this name, the Norton Emperor's mouth couldn't help but twitch. Others might not know the identity of the Underworld Emperor, but as the monarch of the Norton Empire, how could he not know? This was the ancestor of their Norton Imperial Family! Were they, the descendants, to bear the consequences of the ancestor's actions?
"The Underworld Emperor is the Underworld Emperor, and you are you. As long as you have not joined the Underworld Emperor's camp, this matter will not be pinned on you! I may know better than you what kind of person the Underworld Emperor is," Lingyun said.
Hearing Lingyun say this, the Norton Emperor breathed a sigh of relief. Among the three gods before him, Lingyun appeared to be the one in charge; since he could say that this matter had nothing to do with the Norton Imperial Family, the matter would basically not be held against them.
"However, I must remind you of one thing: you should know how dangerous the Underworld Emperor is. You must make preparations early in this regard," Lingyun said.
"I understand," the Norton Emperor nodded.
"Also, I need some information regarding the Underworld Emperor. This information should be most complete in your hands. Compile this information and send it to us through the Half-Elf Auction House," Lingyun proposed a request.
"Yes."
"Very well. This incident must have caused quite a panic in the Imperial City; hurry and go soothe your subjects. We have other matters to attend to, so we will be leaving first," Lingyun said.
"I respectfully see off the three Highnesses." The Norton Emperor bowed to Lingyun and his companions.
Only after Lingyun and his companions vanished from his sight did the Norton Emperor let out a long breath. It was only then that he felt his back was soaked through, and he felt waves of dizziness before his eyes.
"Your Majesty!" Seeing the Norton Emperor's figure become unsteady, Antelu hurriedly supported him.
"Fortunately, fortunately these three gods were the reasonable sort, otherwise our Imperial Family would have faced the disaster of annihilation," the Norton Emperor said, his tone still carrying a trace of lingering fear as he was supported by Antelu.
"Your Majesty, then what should we now..."
"Now, of course, we go to organize the data regarding the Underworld Emperor to submit to the three Highnesses. By the way, go issue a notice saying that Moduo died at the hands of the mastermind following this undead raid," the Norton Emperor said.
In truth, the Norton Emperor saying this was not problematic; after all, once Moqi awakened, Moduo would inevitably be completely devoured, so it could be considered that he died at Moqi's hands.
"Yes, Your Majesty." Antelu helped the Norton Emperor sit down in his chair, then hurried away from there.
