Chapter 970: Kaname Madoka's Unease
Kaname Madoka stood before her window, gazing at the dark clouds in the distance, an expression of unease involuntarily appearing on her face.
Although she did not know what that strange bank of dark clouds represented, she still felt a sinister aura emanating from within it.
"This thing, what on earth... is it..." Kaname Madoka's voice carried a trace of trembling.
At night, the stars in the sky were quietly obscured by black clouds before anyone knew it. Kaname Madoka lay on her bed, clutching a doll in both hands, her brows tightly knitted together, as if she had fallen into a Nightmare.
In her dream, she arrived in a strange world. This world was filled with ruins everywhere, appearing to be a city that had undergone a brutal battle. Collapsed buildings were everywhere in the city, as if someone had purged this battlefield with overwhelming firepower.
Just at this moment, a burst of strange laughter suddenly emerged from the sky; the sky seemed to pull back its curtain like a stage, as if a grand opera were being performed.
Kaname Madoka raised her head and could not help but open her mouth wide. Suspended in the sky was an extremely bizarre existence. Its posture was like a Doll wearing evening dress, hanging upside down from a giant gear floating in the air, and the strange laughter was coming from this Doll. Beside the Doll, there was also a rather strange, flickering light.
Just at this moment, countless attacks suddenly emerged from the Void, bombarding the direction of this strange Doll like a torrential rain. Violent explosions continuously spread around the Doll, but these attacks seemed to have little effect on it; even if they caused slight wounds to the Doll, they would quickly disappear under its powerful restorative ability.
And in this broken world, only a few figures were constantly darting about, eventually landing on the tops of different skyscrapers. Kaname Madoka looked closely, and those figures were none other than Akemi Homura and the other four.
However, the five of them looked quite disheveled now, as if they had been severely wounded in the battle against this strange Doll.
"Could this be a Witch? How excessive, how could you do this..." Kaname Madoka could not help but clench her hands.
Crimson light was continuously released from the body of Walpurgisnacht, striking toward the direction of Akemi Homura and the others. Akemi Homura and the others clearly knew the severity of this attack and could only dodge one after another.
However, Walpurgisnacht's attacks were simply too dense; even though Akemi Homura and the others were agile, they were eventually caught by these attacks. Watching Akemi Homura and the others being struck down from the sky like birds, Kaname Madoka could not help but let out a scream.
And this scream seemed to attract the attention of Walpurgisnacht. The massive Walpurgisnacht suddenly turned toward Kaname Madoka's direction. Merely by being stared at, Kaname Madoka felt a malice, as if materialized, rising from around her, wrapping her firmly within it and making it difficult for her to breathe.
It was at this moment that Walpurgisnacht's body suddenly began to rotate, the inverted Doll slowly spinning upward. Akemi Homura and the others attacked Walpurgisnacht continuously, as if trying to stop her, but it had no effect.
"Where is Teacher? Where is Miss Kurumi?" Watching Walpurgisnacht's movements, a sense of foreboding suddenly rose in Madoka's heart, and she quickly looked around.
Everywhere she looked was a ruin; Lingyun and Tokisaki Kurumi, in whom Kaname Madoka had placed high hopes, did not appear.
Just as Kaname Madoka was searching for Lingyun's figure, Walpurgisnacht's inverted Doll had moved to the top at some point. In that instant, terrifying Magic was released from Walpurgisnacht, transforming into an extremely terrifying hurricane that completely swallowed Akemi Homura and the others.
Seeing this scene, Kaname Madoka's pupils shrank to their smallest. At this moment, the hurricane had already reached her side, instantly swallowing her figure as well.
"Ah—"
A scream suddenly escaped Kaname Madoka's mouth, and she sat up from her bed all at once, still clutching her doll tightly in her hands.
"Was it a dream?" Looking at the familiar scenery around her, Kaname Madoka could not help but breathe a slight sigh of relief.
She looked out the window; the day had dawned at some point. But under the cover of the black clouds, the sky was still gloomy. This bank of dark clouds was like a heavy stone pressing on her heart, making it impossible for her to be happy no matter what.
Now she was still continuously recalling that dream from before. In the dream, there were only Akemi Homura and the other Magical Girls; so, where on earth had Lingyun gone?
This matter was something she could not help but take seriously; the dream was simply too real, so real that she could describe everything she saw in that dream even now, as if everything were still happening right before her eyes.
"Walpurgisnacht has been strengthened!" Lingyun looked at the bank of dark clouds that was continuously expanding, a trace of doubt rising in his eyes. "Is it an anomaly caused by my arrival, or is this the final struggle of a power capable of overturning this world? Is the target Kaname Madoka, who has not yet become a god?"
"It looks like this time, even if all the Magical Girls strike at once, they might not necessarily be a match for Walpurgisnacht while she is being strengthened by you!" Tokisaki Kurumi said.
"So what if they aren't a match? I am their backing, after all!" Lingyun said with a light laugh. "By the way, for this battle, I'll leave the guarding to you."
"And you?" Tokisaki Kurumi turned her head to look at Lingyun beside her.
"Me? I still have one final step that needs to be analyzed." Lingyun revealed a faint smile at Tokisaki Kurumi, then disappeared into the Void.
In Lingyun's living room, all the Magical Girls were gathered together, the expression on everyone's face carrying a trace of gravity.
"Because of the weather, school has been temporarily suspended?" Sakura Kyoko asked, looking at Sayaka beside her.
"Yeah, because they're worried about severe weather," Sayaka nodded.
"This kind of weather, it's caused by Walpurgisnacht, right?" Tomoe Mami said, looking at the sky in the distance.
"Yes!" Akemi Homura nodded.
"Just the precursor to its appearance has created this scene; it seems Walpurgisnacht really is a terrifying existence!" Tomoe Mami's tone carried a trace of caution.
"This time, Walpurgisnacht is probably a bit different from the ordinary ones!" Akemi Homura's eyes were filled with gravity.
In past Cycles, the appearance of Walpurgisnacht had never caused such a stir. And the greater the disturbance caused, the stronger Walpurgisnacht's power was. Regarding the Walpurgisnacht that caused such a disturbance, the vigilance in Akemi Homura's heart was instantly raised to the highest level.
At the same time, a white, chubby creature appeared beside Kaname Madoka.
Seeing this thing before her, Kaname Madoka could not help but let out a soft cry: "Kyubey?"
"Has it finally come? I knew you wouldn't let this opportunity pass, Kyubey!" Atop a high-rise building, Lingyun looked at Kyubey, who had appeared beside Kaname Madoka, a smile appearing on his face.
