Chapter 134: Twilight of the Buddhist Sect
As the Tathagata's final desperate wail was swallowed by the vortex of reincarnation,
the world seemed to have a string stretched to its limit, and it snapped with a "Snap—".
That was the last thread of fortune that sustained the entire Western Heaven Buddhist sect, stolen from the East.
The fortune has been cut.
Boom—!!!
The whole Ling Shan began its most violent trembling in recorded history, but it was not an earthquake.
Massive, snarling fissures suddenly appeared on the mountain and spread rapidly.
The cracks spewed no lava nor falling rocks, but exhaled waves of dead‑gray rot.
The sacred realm of Ling Shan, once bathed in Buddha's light and holy sounds, now resembled a gigantic tomb stripped of its splendid veneer.
At the summit, Da Lei Yin Si, the symbol of the Buddhist sect's supreme authority, had lost all its golden splendor.
Its glazed tiles turned into ordinary pottery shards, and the red‑lacquered pillars became decayed trunks.
The Buddha mural on the wall, formed from meritorious golden light,
was peeling away piece by piece, revealing a rough, earthen embryo beneath.
The Concept of "Divine" is dead.
Inside Daxiong Baodian, all surviving deities trembled in terror at this apocalyptic scene,
Their hearts were ripped tight with each tremor of Ling Shan.
The era of Fómén has ended.
And the man who personally ended it all now stands silently at the center of the hall.
Sun Wukong slowly lifted his eyelids, his golden eyes devoid of any feeling, like a ruler surveying his domain,
slowly sweeping over the bodhisattvas, arhats and vajras that had long been trembling in fear.
His gaze was light, without any pressure.
Yet every deity his gaze passed over let out an unrestrained, painful moan in unison.
Divine Soul screams, Buddha's Heart trembles.
It felt as if all one's disguises, dignity and secrets were mercilessly stripped clean by that gaze,
and then the naked Divine Soul was cast onto the eternal, unmeltable far‑north icefield, subjected to the bone‑chilling wind that can freeze souls.
Cold, bone‑piercing, despair.
At last, someone could no longer endure this silent ultimate torment.
Thump!
Guanyin Bodhisattva was the first to kneel.
The face that once held compassion now bears only a bloodless, ghastly pallor,
She forced herself to endure the Fear Heart Demon and tremor from deep within her soul, squeezing out a few broken syllables between her teeth.
"Great… Great Sage…"
She bowed deeply to Sun Wukong, smashing her noble head hard onto the cold mortal earth.
"We…"
"We too were deceived by that thief of the Tathagata!"
"Great Sage, discern clearly!"
"The events of those days were all the Tathagata's unilateral decisions; we were also powerless…"
Her voice trembled with sobs, full of grievance and innocence, as if she were the greatest victim.
That kneel and utterance toppled the first domino.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
In an instant, the entire Daxiong Baodian was filled with kneeling bodies.
"Yes, Great Sage! We are wronged!"
"All the Tathagata's fault! His ambition was boundless, covering the heavens!"
"We too dare anger but not speak!"
"We beg the Great Sage for mercy, spare our lives!"
Samantabhadra, Manjushri, Maitreya… those once lofty Buddhist powers worshipped by countless devotees,
now have abandoned their last shred of dignity, crying, pleading, kowtowing like pounding garlic,
shifting all blame onto the Tathagata who had just been cast into endless reincarnation.
The scene was as hideous as it could be, as satirical as it could be.
Sun Wukong watched the absurd spectacle before him, his face showing no expression, only the cold curve at his mouth deepening a few degrees.
He slowly raised his hand, cutting off Guanyin Bodhisattva's endless lament.
"Deceived?"
He softly uttered the two words, his voice low, yet the hall's wailing fell silent.
All the former deities froze, raising their heads in terror to stare at Sun Wukong's expressionless face.
A faint, ultimate sarcasm curled at Sun Wukong's mouth.
"Still… colluding?"
Boom!!!
Those four characters struck like four blazing ten‑thousand‑jin hammers, crushing every deity's heart.
Guanyin's complexion "Swish—" turned whiter than a corpse.
She opened her mouth, only to find her throat clutched by an invisible giant hand, unable to utter a single word.
Yeah, you're bluffing? Trying to fool ghosts!
Back when they rose from the Fómén and divided the profits, each was dripping with oil from eating. Now that a great disaster looms, they just want to wash their hands clean of the pot?
There's no such cheap deal in the world.
Sun Wukong obviously also lost interest in continuing to talk nonsense with these hypocrites.
For a bunch of ants not even worthy of being his opponents, he couldn't be bothered to waste another breath.
He slowly withdrew his gaze, and in an absolute tone that judged the life and death of all things, he spoke lightly.
"Old Sun, I can't be bothered to settle scores with you one by one."
His words were flat, yet they instantly doused the faint hope that had just sparked in the hearts of all the gods and Buddhas, leaving it ice-cold to the bone.
All of them combined weren't worth his time to judge them one by one.
Immediately after, the final edict from the Jiǔtiān descended.
Sun Wukong's voice suddenly became grand and solemn, echoing across the whole realm that was now collapsing.
"Starting today!"
"The Three Realms will have no Ling Shan anymore!"
"No more, the gods and Buddhas filling the heavens!!!"
Boom!!!
Words Follow Law
His voice became the sole supreme rule in this shattered world.
He then issued a second edict.
"You, your Xiūwéi and fruition, shall be utterly stripped!"
"Return to where you came from."
The moment his words fell, "Ah——!!!"
Inside the hall, all the gods and Buddhas simultaneously let out a wail so shrill it was inhuman, a Cànjiào.
An irresistible domineering force surged wildly into their bodies!
No, it's not an influx—it's an extraction!
The vast magical power they had painstakingly accumulated over countless Yuan Assemblies was like a flood released from a gate.
It raged out through every pore, pouring forth endlessly, impossible to stop.
Their immortal Golden Bodies rotted swiftly, their Buddha's Hearts crumbled quickly, and their Dao Fruits withered mercilessly.
Ten thousand years of Xiūwéi, lost in an instant.
The divine Buddhist light that shrouded them, like the last faint glow of a candle in the wind, flickered a few times and then went out with a soft 'poof'.
In just a few breaths, all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Vajras filling the sky were transformed.
They were no longer gods or Buddhas; they reverted to ragged Mortals exuding a decaying aura.
Some were white-haired old monks, some wrinkled old women, and others turned directly into cold, desiccated bones.
For their lifespans had already been exhausted in endless ages; it was the gods' and Buddhas' fruition that let them live long.
Now that their fruition has been stripped, they naturally return to the death they were meant to have.
"No! My power! My power!!"
"Give it back! Return my Xiūwéi!"
"Why…… why has this happened……"
In an instant, the entire hall became a hell filled with despairing wails and unwilling howls.
Sun Wukong couldn't even be bothered to glance at them; for these pitiful yet hateful 'former gods and Buddhas,' he had completely lost interest.
Old scores, settled.
He slowly turned, his icy golden eyes piercing the hall's clamor and darkness, landing on the deepest shadow in the corner.
There, a figure still stood.
One who had remained silent from beginning to end, a figure that looked exactly like him.
The old accounts have been cleared clean.
Now, it's time to dispose of that…… shadow that stole his life.
