Chapter 57: From Today On, Western Heaven Is Under My Old Sun's Control!

~8 min read 1,548 words

Sun Wukong's voice still echoed over Mount Huaguo, bearing boundless arrogance and domineering pride.

Below, the myriad demons, after a brief stunned moment, erupted in cheers more fierce than any before.

"Go spread the sutras in the Chaos Realm!"

"Raise the divine might of our Demon Court!"

"Where the Great Sage points, that is where our blades shall strike!"

The Bull Demon King, the Roc Demon King and other great demons were so excited their faces turned crimson, as if they already saw the demon race's banners planted all over the Chaos Realm.

Sun Wukong lifted his hand.

The noisy forest fell silent in an instant.

All demons, with a fervent posture, gazed at their king.

"However, before that…"

Sun Wukong changed his tone and looked west.

"The Western Heaven's vacant land would be a waste if left empty."

He grinned, and that smile sent a shiver through every demon king who knew him.

"My old Sun has decided to build a Demon Court branch of Xiniu Hezhou at the foot of Ling Shan."

"Since they once liked coming from the Eastern Lands to 'fetch scriptures', we must return the favor."

"Let them also taste the feeling of being blocked at the doorstep while others 'preach'."

These words cut deeper than a direct assault on Ling Shan.

The demon kings present were first stunned, then burst into uproarious laughter.

This is too cruel!

This is like tearing the Fómén's face off, throwing it on the ground, and stamping on it with tens of thousands of feet.

"I need a herald, an instructor."

Sun Wukong's gaze swept over the crowd of demons.

He did not look at the Bull Demon King, nor at the Roc Demon King.

His eyes fell on an old monkey spirit in a corner, trembling yet straining to straighten its back.

That old monkey spirit had once been responsible for teaching the young monkeys on Mount Huaguo to read and write.

"You, come here."

Sun Wukong beckoned him with a finger.

The old monkey spirit jolted, rolling and crawling to Sun Wukong's side, too excited to speak clearly.

"Great… Great King…"

"From today onward, you are the Demon Court's 'Chief Preacher'."

Sun Wukong patted his shoulder.

"Here's a task for you."

"Go to Ling Shan and tell that band of bald donkeys Sun Wukong's sayings."

"Tell them this is a required course. Whoever dares skip it, my old Sun will personally go and make them make up for it!"

…

Three days later, Ling Shan.

The once radiant, golden Buddhist sacred site, filled with chanting Sanskrit, now lies desolate.

The mountain gate was ruined, and the Da Lei Yin Si plaque hung crookedly, its cracks still clearly visible.

A few scattered monks listlessly swept fallen leaves, their faces full of bewilderment and decay.

At that moment.

An old monkey spirit with a sharp snout and cheeky face, wearing a brand‑new brocade robe embroidered with the characters 'Demon Court', swaggered up to the gate.

The guard Arhat instinctively prepared to rebuke him.

But when they read the characters on the robe, the words they were about to utter were forced back.

"Who comes!"

An Arhat, mustering courage, asked.

The old monkey spirit cleared his throat, adopting the demeanor of a teacher.

"By the decree of the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, the Demon Court's Chief Preacher, I have come to present the 'Great Sage Sayings' to all at Ling Shan."

The words fell, and the entire Ling Shan fell deathly silent.

All the monks, Arhats, and Bodhisattvas who heard it froze in place.

Too much deceit!

This is downright excessive deceit!

But do they dare to resist?

Just thinking of that monkey who beat the Primordial Lord with a broom, leaving him searching for teeth on the ground, turned every rebellious thought into bone‑deep cold.

The news quickly reached deep within Da Lei Yin Si.

Rulai Buddha, seated on Liántái, seemed as if he had aged ten million years.

After listening to his disciple's report, he remained silent for a long while.

"Let him… come in."

Finally, in a dry, hoarse voice, he uttered those words.

And thus, the most absurd scene in the Three Realms unfolded.

A demon monkey, with head held high and chest puffed out, walked into Da Lei Yin Si.

He stood on the lectern that once only the Buddha could stand upon.

Below, there is Rulai Buddha, Guanyin, Samantabhadra, Manjushri, and the few hundred remaining Fómén disciples.

Old Monkey Spirit looked around, and nodded with satisfaction.

He pulled a small booklet from his chest and read aloud:

"Great Sage Quotations, opening first chapter, on Destiny!"

"Great Sage says: Destiny belongs to oneself, not given by Heaven! If Heaven presses me, I will split that Heaven! If Earth binds me, I will crush that Earth! We are born free, who dares to be lofty above?!"

These words, like a series of loud slaps, struck each Fómén disciple's face hard.

What they cultivate are cause and effect, samsara, and Heaven's decree.

But this monkey preaches defying Heaven, resistance, and absolute self!

Rulai Buddha sat on Liántái, his whole body trembling violently.

His face, once solemn and majestic, now twisted beyond recognition.

He clenched his fists tightly, nails digging deep into his palms, bleeding black Buddha blood.

Old Monkey Spirit didn't even glance at him, turning to the next page by himself.

"Second Chapter, on the Dao!"

"Great Sage says: Rules exist to be broken! The True Scripture is not in Western Heaven, not on paper, but in our hearts! Live a true example, and you and I become the True Scripture!"

"Puff!"

An old Bodhisattva could no longer endure, spitting out a mouthful of heart‑blood, instantly ceasing breath, attaining Parinirvana.

Old Monkey Spirit finished reciting, closed the booklet, and looked at Rulai.

"Buddha Patriarch, today's lesson ends here."

"Great Sage instructed, we must check the learning results."

"Buddha Patriarch, have you any insight?"

Rulai lifted his head.

He stared at the swaggering monkey and at the booklet that subverted Buddhist doctrine.

A surge of blood‑chi rushed to his forehead.

But he could not erupt.

He could only force out a Smile uglier than crying, then raised his hand.

"Snap."

He began to clap.

One clap, then another.

The applause, in the vast Da Lei Yin Si, sounded so lonely, so grating.

The bodhisattvas and arhats below, faces ashen, also mechanically clapped.

The scattered applause was filled with endless humiliation and sorrow.

……

Mount Huaguo, the summit.

Sun Wukong withdrew his gaze toward the West, a hint of delighted Smile at the corner of his mouth.

Conquest by force is merely inferior.

This cultural invasion, this spiritual crushing, is the most satisfying.

From then on, the Three Realms' structure changed completely.

The Demon Court's decrees spread across the four continents.

"All beings are equal, no longer a distinction between immortal and mortal."

"Open the wisdom of the people; any sentient can practice cultivation."

The Demon Race ushered in an unprecedented golden age.

The incense of the mortal world no longer flows to the Heavenly Court or Fómén, but gathers entirely at Mount Huaguo, before the statue of the Great Sage Equal to Heaven.

Sun Wukong stood on the summit, watching the sea of clouds churn, watching the Demon Court's fortunes blaze like the noon sun.

He succeeded.

He forged a peaceful prosperous era for himself and all demons.

Yet, in his heart, he inexplicably felt a trace of emptiness.

Being invincible is truly lonely.

Those former opponents either died, submitted, or cowered.

Within the Three Realms, there is no longer any being that would let him pick up a staff and fight with gusto.

A fragrant breeze swept in.

Kong Xuan walked to his side and gently draped a cloak over his shoulder.

"The summit wind is strong."

"Old Sun Wukong now fears the wind?" Sun Wukong chuckled, but felt warmth inside.

"You seem unhappy," Kong Xuan said, looking at his profile.

"Indeed," Sun Wukong did not deny, pointing at the magnificent landscape, sighing.

"Too quiet."

Kong Xuan followed his gaze, then smiled faintly.

"Then let's go find a lively place."

"For example, the Chaos beyond the primeval wilds?"

Sun Wukong turned his head to look at her.

Kong Xuan's answer always managed to hit his heart precisely.

"No matter where you go," she said steadily, "I'll be with you."

Sun Wukong felt a sudden warmth in his heart, that inexplicable emptiness instantly filled.

He reached out and grasped Kong Xuan's cool palm.

"Alright."

At the moment he held Kong Xuan's palm.

Both simultaneously sensed something and jerked their heads upward.

Above the sky over their heads, the almost‑healed rift left when Master Bodhi departed suddenly surged violently.

Immediately after.

A tiny white speck fell out of the crack.

The speck drifted in the air, spiraling down.

Sun Wukong instinctively extended his other hand to catch it.

He spread his palm.

It was a paper crane folded from talisman paper.

On the crane's wings, a spot of deep red was glaring.

It was dried blood.
