Chapter 210: The Cthulhu Dao Ancestor Attacks

~8 min read 1,463 words

Wuzu Hall.

Because he had carelessly teased Houtu Great Heavenly Venerable, the founder of the Underworld.

That sliver of leaking Saintly might had almost caused Xuanzang to die on the spot?

Fortunately, however, Houtu had only released a tiny bit of her aura and did not kill Xuanzang.

Although Xuanzang looked lightly upon life and death, he could not help but break out in a cold sweat.

"Houtu Great Heavenly Venerable, thank you for your help at Five Elements Mountain earlier."

Xuanzang said respectfully, bowing again in thanks.

"How did you know it was me?" Houtu asked.

Of course, after saying this, Houtu felt as if she had automatically confessed, feeling a bit foolish.

"Great Heavenly Venerable, I do not understand, why did you have Yama King detain my soul?" Xuanzang said.

"Why must I explain my actions to you?" Houtu's tone was calm, somewhat haughty.

"...," Xuanzang.

"Great Heavenly Venerable, are you not afraid that Buddhism will cause you trouble?" Xuanzang asked again.

"Buddhism, I do not even take them into my eyes," Houtu said, her tone full of Haki.

"Great Heavenly Venerable, Buddhism has two Saints; two against one, the advantage lies with Buddhism," Xuanzang analyzed.

"You do not need to worry about this matter," Houtu said.

Xuanzang was silent; since Houtu had made a move, he feared it would not be easy to leave the Underworld.

If she locked him up for ten thousand years, his physical body was still in the human world. Heaven knows what might happen?

"Follow me," Houtu said.

Xuanzang followed behind Houtu; her figure was graceful, beautiful, and moving.

Xuanzang tried his best to keep his thoughts complimentary; beside a Saint, there were no secrets when it came to one's inner voice.

The corners of Houtu's mouth lifted slightly, and she said nothing more.

Having brought Xuanzang to the Underworld this time, she had her own ideas.

Soon, they arrived at the Nether Blood Sea within the Underworld!

This Nether Blood Sea was extremely vast, connecting to the Huntun Shijie, and was even many times larger than the entire Three Realms combined, with no end in sight.

"Do you see the River of Blood?" Houtu said.

"I see it," Xuanzang nodded.

"What are your thoughts?" Houtu said.

"It is very large," Xuanzang answered truthfully.

"A very, very long time ago, in an unknown eon, I discovered the incomplete Six Paths Lunhui Yinjie here. Later, I completed it, which became the current Underworld, allowing all living beings to enter the Six Paths of Reincarnation and live out their next lives," Houtu said.

"Great Heavenly Venerable is truly benevolent; this Merit is enough to bless ten thousand generations," Xuanzang praised.

"Although it is a great good, it also harbors many hidden dangers."

"Look again!"

Houtu waved her hand, manifesting the Six Paths of Reincarnation; those Six Paths of Reincarnation were deep and unfathomable, and it seemed as if a mysterious space existed behind them.

Xuanzang stared intently; behind the Six Paths of Reincarnation was Chaos, and within that Chaos, inconceivable worlds appeared before his eyes, even including a Mythical World like his own.

"Existing within Chaos, no two worlds are independent, and they may even resonate with one another."

"For example, the world you are in will soon face a great catastrophe and may perhaps be annihilated," Houtu said.

"With Saints present, how could this world disappear?" Xuanzang asked.

"Saints are not the peak of the Great Dao; under certain circumstances, they too can fall," Houtu said.

Hearing this, Xuanzang did not speak and continued to watch the worlds manifesting behind the Six Paths of Reincarnation.

It was a vast expanse, with immortals, Buddhas, demons, and monsters, with Dao Ancestors and Saints!

A Dao Ancestor was preaching, and billions of cultivators below were listening intently; the light of the Great Dao emerged, Golden Lotus flowers sprang from the ground, and strange phenomena appeared one after another.

Although separated by the Six Paths of Reincarnation, Xuanzang felt he could hear the profound mysteries of the sermon, and having gained some insight, he could not help but listen quietly.

Houtu did not interrupt Xuanzang's enlightenment, just watching quietly!

Time flowed slowly; one year, ten years, a hundred years, ten thousand years passed.

Xuanzang's cultivation grew deeper and deeper, and the light of a Great Luo appeared within his body, as if he could step into the realm of a Great Luo Golden Immortal at any moment.

However, he suddenly felt that something was wrong!

Xuanzang felt a pain in his forehead, as if something was about to break free; he hurriedly used the Nether Blood Sea to reflect himself!

Under the reflection of the River of Blood, Xuanzang's face showed terror; that was no longer a human, but clearly a monster covered in tumors and strange eyes!

"How is this possible?"

Xuanzang could not accept it; he looked at his arm, which was no longer a human hand, but had turned into a hideous, viscous tentacle!

He had only listened to a sermon, how could he have become like this!

Looking again at that original Mythical World, a Weirdness had appeared.

The immortal, Dao-like Dao Ancestor had vanished, replaced by an indescribable entity the size of a star.

Black mist permeated everything, its tentacles spreading across the entire universe, Devouring all things in the world.

"Ah!"

Xuanzang roared, as if falling into an endless abyss.

Fortunately, after a few breaths, it was as if time had flowed backward; Xuanzang's body gradually began to recover, returning to human form once more.

He suddenly woke up, and seeing the human form in the River of Blood, he felt a sense of relief.

Xuanzang looked back at Houtu and said, "That was just an illusion, right, Great Heavenly Venerable?"

Houtu shook her head and waved her hand to recreate the scene from just a moment ago.

In the image, after Xuanzang gazed at the world behind the Six Paths of Reincarnation, he suddenly appeared to go mad, with strange flesh-eyes and ominousness splitting open on his body, but he quickly recovered as if nothing had happened.

"Damn it!" Xuanzang cursed.

"What exactly was that?" Xuanzang asked.

"You can think of it as another kind of ending for this world. That Dao Ancestor is also a Saint-level existence of Transcendence; he has always lived in Chaos, constantly searching for other planes to preach the Dao.

And its next target is here, to Devour this place," Houtu said.

After listening, Xuanzang felt heavy-hearted, but then he returned to his usual self and feigned ease, saying:

"It's not a big problem."

"Generally speaking, even a Great Luo Golden Immortal would be transformed by the Dao Scripture upon seeing that being's true form," Houtu said.

"With Houtu Great Heavenly Venerable here, how could I possibly be transformed? It must have been you, Houtu Niangniang, who saved me in the end," Xuanzang said.

Houtu shook her head and said, "It was not I who saved you. Given your cultivation realm, you are not qualified to touch the scriptures of such an existence; the result would most likely have been madness, alienation, and death."

Imperceptibly, Houtu had replaced "this seat" with "I," and Xuanzang did not notice.

"..., Great Heavenly Venerable. What grudge do I have with you? Why are you harming me?"

Xuanzang's face showed resentment; he couldn't beat her, and it was truly annoying.

"I helped you before, so it is only reasonable to settle the Karma now."

Houtu smiled, appearing to be in quite a good mood.

Xuanzang was speechless, but unwilling to give up, he asked again:

"Great Heavenly Venerable, if I hadn't recovered, would you have actually stepped in to save me?"

"Heh."

Houtu chuckled and did not answer.

Perhaps she would have saved him, perhaps she would not.

"Let's go."

Houtu walked in front, leaving a graceful silhouette for Xuanzang, and slowly departed from the Nether Blood Sea.

"We're just leaving?"

Xuanzang said, looking back at the Six Paths of Reincarnation as it gradually vanished, feeling lingering fear.

His intuition told him that Houtu was hiding a great secret; if this world were truly facing an impending crisis of annihilation, she could not be so calm.

Then, what was the purpose of this trip to the River of Blood?

For Houtu, the result she wanted had already been obtained, but she still lacked proof of Xuanzang's true origin, which was the reason for her sudden change in attitude.

Even a Great Luo Golden Immortal could not stop the Weirdness transformation, yet Xuanzang had recovered as if nothing had happened; although the process was incomparably dangerous, it was enough to prove that Xuanzang's origin was extraordinary.

For Houtu, the next step was how to help Xuanzang find his true self.
