Chapter 402: Queen Mother and Bodhisattva Join Forces to Put on a Play
"How strange!"
Sun Wukong muttered; in the depths of these mountains, there was actually a wealthy family's mansion, and for a hundred miles around, there was no sign of human life, only this one household.
Yet, he could not detect any demonic Qi!
Xuanzang looked over and indeed discovered a mansion several miles away, and there was no demonic Qi.
He was now in the Great Luo Realm; not a single demon on this Journey to the West could escape his eyes.
Since Xuanzang did not detect any demonic Qi, it was clearly impossible for the other party to be a demon.
If they were not demons, then they must be immortals; that was the only possibility.
"Could it be a test conjured by some immortal?"
Xuanzang speculated, though he was not sure which tribulation of the Journey to the West this was.
"There are people living here."
Bajie also used his divine abilities to look, discovering the luxurious mansion, and his eyes lit up as he said:
"Such a large estate, Master, we have a place to stay tonight; finally, we don't have to sleep in the wilderness."
"You fool, there is clearly something wrong here. Look at these surroundings; there isn't a single person, yet there is a household like this. Isn't that suspicious?" Sun Wukong said.
"What's suspicious about it? You monkey are too suspicious; perhaps it's just some reclusive family," Bajie said.
"Tch..." Sun Wukong looked at Bajie with disdain.
This pig-head, full of devious schemes, how could he have no brains when it came to these matters?
"Master, what do you think?"
Sun Wukong asked, as the final decision still rested with Xuanzang.
"Since we have encountered it, let's go and see," Xuanzang said.
"Alright." Sun Wukong nodded.
His master was already a Great Luo Immortal; even if there were an accident, who could hurt him?
Looking across the Three Realms, apart from those existences who had become Buddhas or ancestors, anyone wanting to move against his master would likely be beaten to death by him.
Subsequently, the master and his disciples arrived at the entrance of the wealthy mansion.
Bajie could not help but want to knock on the door, but he was stopped by Sun Wukong, who said:
"You fool, with your pig-like appearance, don't scare the master of the house; let Master do it."
"Fine, fine, fine, you're the boss."
Hearing this, Bajie retreated to the back; the stinky monkey's words made some sense.
"Wukong, you call for the door," Xuanzang said.
"Yes."
Sun Wukong cleared his throat and said:
"Is anyone there!"
"This poor monk comes from the Eastern Land of Great Tang, heading to the Western Heaven for Scripture Seeking. The sky has grown late, may we borrow a place to stay for the night..."
"Is anyone there!"
Sun Wukong called out several times, while Xuanzang waited quietly by his side.
Being closer, Xuanzang finally sensed that not only was there no demonic Qi in the residence, but there was also a trace of deeply hidden immortal Qi, as well as a familiar aura—it felt familiar.
Thinking of this, Xuanzang could not help but recall one of the tribulations in the Journey to the West: Four Sages Test Zen Heart.
This tribulation was very interesting; it was set up by several Bodhisattvas of Buddhism in conjunction with Lishan Laomu, with the purpose of testing the devotion to Buddha of Tang Seng and his group.
In short, it was to tempt them with money and beauty.
In the end, the only one who fell for it was Bajie!
If it were the Bodhisattvas of Buddhism, logically, it would be impossible for Xuanzang not to sense the aura of Buddha.
There seemed to be an aura of Buddha, but it was too faint; instead, the aura of the Taoism predominated.
"Could it be that some change has occurred?" Xuanzang thought to himself.
Soon, the mansion's gate opened, and a woman with a mature temperament and a graceful figure walked out.
This woman was wearing a purple dress and robe; she looked older, but her features were very exquisite, graceful, and luxurious.
Beside the mature woman was a slightly younger woman in a white dress.
Her complexion was flawless, and she emitted a kind of holy aura.
Sun Wukong activated his Fiery Eyes, but he saw absolutely nothing; there were no flaws at all.
He even vaguely sensed an extremely vast aura of magic power.
"Could it be a test set by some Great Ability?" Sun Wukong thought.
Bajie, that lustful pig, saw such a stunning woman walk out of this house, and his eyes went straight; he almost drooled.
The two women saw the peculiar attire of Xuanzang's group and revealed looks of surprise, saying:
"Who are you?"
At this moment, Xuanzang stepped forward and said gently:
"I come from the Eastern Land of Great Tang, passing through your precious land. Now that the sky is late, I wish to seek alms; if it is convenient, it would be best to provide a place to stay.
These few are my disciples; you need not fear, they are very well-behaved."
"Wukong, Bajie, Heixiong, Xiaobailong, pay your respects to the female Bodhisattvas."
Hearing this, Sun Wukong, Bajie, and Xiaobailong bowed and performed salutations one after another.
"Hehe."
The two mysterious women were amused to laughter.
"Please come in, Master."
Immediately, the group entered the house.
These two women were naturally Wangmu Niangniang and Guanyin Bodhisattva, who had transformed into human forms!
Wangmu held a noble status, so she took the position of the mother of this household, while Guanyin temporarily transformed into Wangmu's daughter.
With the Transformation arts of these two, Sun Wukong naturally could not see a single problem.
The mansion, the main hall.
This main hall was very luxurious, with fine sandalwood furniture, calligraphy and paintings hanging on the walls, the pleasant scent of ambergris drifting in the air, and the hanging beaded Juanlian emitting crisp musical sounds from time to time.
Everyone sat down, Wangmu Niangniang sat in the main seat, and Guanyin stood by her side, looking like a kind mother and a filial daughter.
"Female Bodhisattva, with such a large courtyard, why are there no servants to be seen?" Sun Wukong could not help but ask.
Wangmu's expression changed slightly, and she said: "Our family grew weary of the infighting and the chaos of war in the outside world, and the men of our family have also died. Later, because we had some family assets, we came to live in these deep mountains, away from the world, hoping only for peace and quiet."
Sun Wukong listened, smiled, and said nothing.
"With such a large family estate, how can you manage without men? What if you encounter evildoers?" Bajie said impatiently.
"Alas, if that were truly the case, our family could only accept our bad luck. By the way, daughter. You and Lan'er go prepare some tea and pastries for our guests," Wangmu sighed.
"Very well, Mother," Guanyin said.
Although it was just acting out a play, Guanyin still felt somewhat awkward calling Wangmu 'Mother'.
"Mother?" Bajie was stunned; he had thought Wangmu and Guanyin were sisters.
"Yes, this is my daughter, Guan'er," Wangmu Niangniang said, appearing calm on the surface, but in reality, she was holding back laughter.
"Old Pig here thinks you look like sisters; you are so well-preserved," Bajie said.
"Indeed, even the eighteen or nineteen-year-old girls in the outside world are not as good as the female Bodhisattva," Sun Wukong said.
"Hehe, no matter how well-preserved one is, what is the use? As the saying goes, a man dies for one who appreciates him, and a woman adorns herself for one who pleases her."
A look of sorrow appeared on Wangmu's exquisite face, but her gaze was fixed on the jade-faced Xuanzang.
Sun Wukong and Bajie's hearts skipped a beat!
"It's over, Houzi, this female Bodhisattva has likely taken a fancy to our Master," Bajie transmitted his voice, feeling somewhat heartbroken.
With Master, the number one handsome man of the journey to the West, they had no chance.
"What do you mean 'taken a fancy to Master'? What nonsense are you spouting, you fool?" Sun Wukong said.
In matters of relationships between men and women, Sun Wukong was indeed not as sharp as Bajie.
Sun Wukong felt that there was something fishy about Wangmu and Guanyin!
But he still did not think in the direction of romantic relationships.
"You monkey are too dense; you still don't understand, she must be lusting after our Master's beauty!" Bajie said.
