Chapter 508: Wangmu Niangniang Gets Drunk
Inside Yaochi Dian.
Xuanzang walked on Wangmu Niangniang; because the distance was not great, one could even say it was close at hand, he could very clearly smell the special fragrance on Wangmu Niangniang, and it was also very familiar, as if he had smelled it somewhere before.
"My Lady, why can I not see any other female immortals in Yaochi?"
Xuanzang asked, looking around; there was not a single immortal in sight, which did not conform to common sense.
One must know that the Jade Emperor had plenty of immortal officials and female immortal maidens by his side, watching female immortals dance every day, living a life of leisure and ease.
"I had them dismissed in advance, because for what comes next, I do not wish for others to see," Wangmu Niangniang said.
"It is not as if it is something unpresentable," Xuanzang said.
"It is unpresentable to immortals."
Wangmu Niangniang looked back at Xuanzang, her gaze surprisingly earnest and serious.
Of course, the current Xuanzang was no ordinary person, so naturally, he could not be captivated by such a gaze.
Wangmu Niangniang waved her hand, immortal light surged, and before them appeared a table of fine immortal wine and emerald-green, crystalline immortal fruits, quite a spread.
"..."
Xuanzang subconsciously rubbed his stomach; he had already drunk quite a lot at Nezha's place, could it be that he had to drink again here?
"Sit," Wangmu Niangniang said.
Xuanzang nodded slightly and sat down composedly. Wangmu Niangniang sat down immediately after, her long dress trailing on the ground, yet she was graceful and charming, making one unable to help but look a few extra times.
If one were to ask who the most noble woman in the Three Realms was today, it would certainly be Wangmu Niangniang.
As for the Great Heavenly Venerable of the Underworld, Houtu, she had already transcended the category of women; she was a female Saint.
In any case, having had the experience in the Underworld, Xuanzang did not want to provoke such an existence for the time being.
The wine cups on the jade table automatically poured a cup of wine for Xuanzang and Wangmu Niangniang each; the wine was transparent, yet the fragrance was intoxicating, entering through the nose and flowing into the heart, making one recall the past, as if seeing past lives and the present.
Xuanzang did not drink, but instead fixed his gaze on Wangmu Niangniang; he did not know what medicine Wangmu Niangniang was selling in her gourd.
Because there was a precedent—Guanyin had been tricked by Wangmu Niangniang once—he did not want to repeat the same mistake.
"This wine is a treasure of the Three Realms; a single cup can make one an immortal. Xuanzang, will you not drink?" Wangmu Niangniang said.
"Wangmu Niangniang, with your abilities, you should know that I have already had a round of drinking just now," Xuanzang said bluntly.
"Xuanzang, with your abilities, even if you continue to drink, what does it matter?" Wangmu Niangniang countered.
Hearing this, Xuanzang picked up the wine cup and drained it in one gulp.
Wangmu Niangniang covered her mouth and smiled, and Xuanzang asked:
"My Lady, why do you laugh at me?"
Wangmu Niangniang composed herself and teased:
"I thought you would use that set of rhetoric from Buddhism."
Xuanzang drank another cup; the wine slowly traveled down his throat into his chest, nourishing his Viscera, then he put down the cup and said:
"My Lady, it is not the first time you have known me."
"That is true. For that time in the mortal world, shouldn't you thank me?" Wangmu Niangniang said.
"..., I think Guanyin should be very thankful to you, My Lady," Xuanzang said.
"Hehe, perhaps," Wangmu Niangniang said casually.
If it were not for the relationship between Buddhism and the Heavenly Court and the grand plan of the Journey to the West, Guanyin would likely have dueled with Wangmu Niangniang long ago.
As for the result of a duel between the two, one did not know if it would be a fifty-fifty split or a forty-sixty split.
"My sudden arrival in the Heavenly Court this time must also be your handiwork, Wangmu Niangniang. The spell of Moving Stars and Changing Dippers is indeed miraculous," Xuanzang said.
Wangmu Niangniang put down her wine cup and said, "Are you so certain it was me?"
"Not certain, but apart from you, Wangmu Niangniang, there is no one else in the entire Heavenly Court who would be so interested in me," Xuanzang said.
"Perhaps."
Wangmu Niangniang said ambiguously, neither admitting nor denying it.
"Can I take it that you have some improper thoughts about me, My Lady?"
Xuanzang asked, leaning forward and intentionally closing the distance between them.
Wangmu Niangniang's expression remained calm, maintaining her posture of sipping wine as she said, "Xuanzang, you seem very confident in yourself."
"I can't help it; the most handsome man in the Three Realms is just this confident," Xuanzang said.
"The most handsome man in the Three Realms—who gave you this title?" Wangmu Niangniang asked.
"I don't know, but there is no need to dwell on such details. As the greatest beauty in the Three Realms, My Lady, hehe, in a way, we are quite a match," Xuanzang laughed.
"If these words were to spread, Xuanzang, ten lives would not be enough for you to pay the price," Wangmu Niangniang said, her heart stirring slightly.
"Is that so? Then let us pretend I said nothing just now."
Xuanzang sat back in his original spot and picked up an immortal fruit to eat; it was sweet upon entering the mouth, with an endless aftertaste.
After the few rounds of back-and-forth just now, the atmosphere had been opened up.
Everyone had their own schemes; it just depended on how the next move in the chess game would be played.
Xuanzang also did not understand what Wangmu Niangniang's ultimate goal was.
"Wangmu Niangniang, actually, ever since I entered Yaochi, I have always had a feeling of déjà vu. Have we met before?" Xuanzang asked.
"Xuanzang, you are now a Great Luo Golden Immortal; do you not know your past and present lives?" Wangmu Niangniang said.
According to the normal process, once a person becomes an immortal, even an Earth Immortal, they would realize their past and present lives and break through the mystery of the womb.
So-called becoming an immortal is just like this: past events dissipate like floating clouds.
Xuanzang was now a Great Luo Golden Immortal; let alone his past life, he should understand his past five hundred lives clearly.
"There are always exceptions in the world; I truly do not know my past and present lives," Xuanzang said.
After he became a Great Luo Golden Immortal, the first thing he did was to travel through the heavens and cross reincarnation to discern the matters of his past lives.
But the previous life was a piece of Chaos and obscurity; nothing could be seen at all.
As for that lifetime of Jinchanzi, there were also no traces whatsoever.
"That sounds quite interesting," the Queen Mother said.
"I wonder if the Queen Mother knows of me in that lifetime as Jinchanzi? Could you perhaps provide some guidance?" Xuanzang asked.
The Queen Mother shook her head and said:
"Actually, even I am not certain if that was you. You may not believe it, but even at a realm as powerful as mine, there remains a blurred fragment within my memories.
However, I can tell you this: you can be Jinchanzi, and you can also not be. You are Jinchanzi, yet Jinchanzi is not you.
But I am more willing to believe that the one I saw five hundred years ago was indeed you."
"Listening to your words is like listening to words."
Xuanzang's mind was a bit dazed; it seemed the Queen Mother had said something, yet it also seemed she had said nothing at all.
"Forget it, let's not talk about these things. Let's talk about daily life, Queen Mother. You are drinking here with me, and I don't believe the Jade Emperor doesn't know. Tell me, what is the Jade Emperor's mood at this moment?"
Xuanzang said, as he had not used his magic power to refine the aftereffects of the immortal wine, and it was once again going to his head.
"What the Jade Emperor's mood is, what does that have to do with me?"
"You wouldn't happen to think that the Jade Emperor and I are a Taoism couple, would you?" the Queen Mother said, sounding somewhat displeased.
"Of course not. The Queen Mother is in charge of all female immortals in the Three Realms and is the head of the female immortals, while the Jade Emperor governs the Three Realms of Heaven, Earth, and Man and is the Lord of the Three Realms; your duties are different," Xuanzang said.
"It is good that you know. Drink."
The Queen Mother said, and took out immortal wine that had been treasured for over ten thousand years.
