Chapter 104: Don

~9 min read 1,774 words

Sun Zhicheng heard Chen Yunyun agree, and his whole world felt like it was collapsing.

No, sis.

Aren't you afraid of QQ messages leaking?

Even if you're single now, what if someone happened to confess to you last night? How can you lend your phone? Especially to someone else to log into QQ!

In an instant, Sun Zhicheng no longer wanted to go to school—he wanted to hang himself.

During morning English reading, Jiang Nian was in good spirits.

That morning he checked his phone; the JK he'd bought yesterday now showed as en route to Zhennan County. Calculating the time, he should receive the package by noon.

He planned to go back at noon to collect the package.

Gao San classes were so exhausting, endless exams and endless practice problems. Sometimes when he went to the bathroom during break, he'd return to find every desk covered in a blanket of white paper.

Thick stacks of exams from multiple subjects were handed out at once, piling on desks like snowfall—making people feel like they'd shatter.

If your energy is low, better avoid Gao San entirely.

Ma Guojun and Li Hua switched seats; the big fat guy crept close to Jiang Nian and pulled out a few chocolates, handing them to Jiang Nian and Zhang Ningzhi.

"Liqueur-filled. Try them."

"Are they high-proof?" Jiang Nian took one, "I only eat the strong-alcohol-filled ones—I don't like the others."

"Just eat it, why are you complaining?"

Zhang Ningzhi took hers and whispered.

"Thank you."

"Look how polite Zhang Ningzhi is—you eat and still nitpick," Ma Guojun pointed at Jiang Nian, "You dog, can't even say thank you."

Jiang Nian looked indifferent, tore open the wrapper, and tossed it straight into his mouth.

"Hey, fat guy, let you feel my abs."

"Get lost, you gay bastard!" Ma Guojun was about to say more when he noticed an empty seat in front—"Where's Wu Jungu?"

"Probably took a day off," Jiang Nian didn't care much.

"His love life must've worn him out—he's even skipping morning reading," Ma Guojun remarked sharply, adjusting his black-rimmed glasses, "I say he should just break up already."

Jiang Nian said nothing, loudly reciting an English composition template.

He'd evolved into the shape of Qing Bao: Class Three's non-stick pan, staying far from trouble, preserving his own safety.

Qing Party, awesome!

Ceng You turned around, grinning.

"Brother Jun is still deeply in love—how could he break up?"

His words carried hidden meaning: they were clearly having problems but still acting affectionate—boys would understand. In romantic relationships, whoever has the upper hand holds the moral advantage.

Yu Zhiyi never lacked backup options—she could seamlessly move on after a breakup.

"It's hurting his grades—why not break up?" Ma Guojun's voice cut clearly through the morning reading, bluntly adding, "Keep him just to get into a second-tier university?"

Jiang Nian put down the English material, stung—he turned to look at Ma Guojun.

"Bro, I'll pay you—can you take back what you just said?"

His current score, adjusted for the college entrance exam, hovered around a top-tier non-985/211 university—slightly higher and he'd be safe for a first-tier, slightly lower and he'd drop to second-tier.

"I wasn't talking about you—you're clearly getting into a first-tier," Ma Guojun spoke quickly, "Last week's mock test was so easy, even he—"

Ceng You also felt stung: "Bro Ma, stop talking—I'm thinking of jumping."

Ma Guojun said, "If you didn't play with your phone, getting into a first-tier would be a breeze."

Hearing this, Ceng You's face lit up with pride—but to stay low-key, he suppressed his smug expression and asked back:

"If I don't play with my phone, what do I do?"

Jiang Nian replied, "Play JJ."

"Hahaha!!" All three laughed.

Seeing Qian Bao walking over from the next class, the three calmed down and resumed reading on their own.

On the other side, Sun Zhicheng spent the entire morning in anxiety.

After hesitating, he gritted his teeth and tapped Lin Dong on the shoulder. Lin Dong turned his head, his face instantly twisting in pain.

"A-Cheng, Brother Cheng, Dad! Please stop telling the story about your cousin—you've been going on all morning."

"I—" Sun Zhicheng's words choked in his throat.

"No need to repeat it, bro—I'll say it for you," Lin Dong said, as if the curse had activated, tapping his temple, "Your cousin stole your phone yesterday, right?"

"Yeah, right," Sun Zhicheng raised his voice.

"Your little brother really is a hyperactive little beast," Lin Dong rubbed his temples, "But Cheng, you don't need to repeat it all morning."

"If you really can't handle it, take me to your cousin's class at lunch. I'll wear a mask and teach him how to behave—I'll get your phone back for you. How's that?"

"No, no," Sun Zhicheng stammered, "I'm just venting—these kids today are too naughty, completely spoiled."

"Yeah, my cousin's a little bastard too," Lin Dong said, uttering a shocking line that made his group members turn around.

Chen Yunyun and Wang Yuhe stared at him in shock.

"What?"

"Group leader, in your hometown, are those two characters a term of endearment between brothers?" Wang Yuhe asked, bewildered.

"No, back in junior high…" Lin Dong changed his phrasing, "My junior high desk partner dated a girl and left his phone with me."

"He broke up with her for her, ranted a bunch of stuff, deleted all contact methods. Later, my desk partner managed to reach her again—not only did she curse him to hell, she broke up with him."

Chen Yunyun and Wang Yuhe exchanged glances, then burst into clear laughter.

"Group leader, that's so tragic."

"Yeah, all because of that little bastard," Lin Dong sighed. "But every time I go home, I bribe his classmates to beat him up—kinda evened things out."

Hearing this, Chen Yunyun and Wang Yuhe laughed even harder.

Human joys and sorrows do not connect; Sun Zhicheng couldn't laugh at all. His body gradually grew cold, yet due to extreme tension, his flesh began to heat up again.

He had a feeling that this time, he might truly fall ill.

Time crawled by second by second; with the shrill bell ringing, morning reading ended.

Chen Yunyun put down her book, left her seat, and walked toward the podium. She had promised to log into QQ for Chai Muying after morning reading—Chai Muying had handed in her phone.

The weather had turned cold; she wanted to ask a fellow townsman whether to bring back a quilt. Her QQ had always been logged in on Chen Yunyun's phone, and whenever she needed something, she'd ask Chen Yunyun.

In his seat, Sun Zhicheng watched Chen Yunyun bend down to retrieve her phone and charging cable from the podium, and his heart turned to ash.

Dead. The execution line had come.

Last night he was too worked up—he suddenly confessed. Now he was completely calm. He should've tested the waters first; otherwise, if she rejected him, he'd be a fool!

Gulp. He watched Chen Yunyun power on her phone and walk toward Chai Muying's seat.

He stared at her, muttering silently to himself.

"Just one glance, please, just one glance. Don't hand it straight to someone else. I beg you—give me a chance."

Lin Dong heard Sun Zhicheng's mumbled muttering, leaned over, and flashed a sneaky grin identical to Anya's, pressing close to ask:

"Ah Cheng, sneaking around again? Even after self-study's over, you're still memorizing words."

Sun Zhicheng had no time to respond—he kept his eyes fixed on Chen Yunyun. When he saw her glance nowhere, and simply hand the phone straight to Chai Muying, he swallowed hard.

Lin Dong took in everything, his lips curling again as he pressed closer.

"Ooooh, who are you staring at? So serious?"

"No one." Sun Zhicheng stood up from his seat, like a walking corpse, mechanically turning his head. "Bro Dong, do you think I can get downstairs without using the stairs?"

"Hahaha, how else would you get down if not by the stairs? That's hilarious."

Chen Yunyun had already walked over and noticed Sun Zhicheng's ashen face—he looked like he'd just crawled out of a grave. She was startled and asked with concern:

"Sun Zhicheng, you look awful. Shouldn't you take a day off and see a doctor?"

"No need. I…" Sun Zhicheng sat back down, his chest heaving. "I'll just rest a bit. I'm fine. These past two days I've been sick and my head's been fuzzy."

"Take care of yourself," Chen Yunyun said, then returned to her seat.

During the first class of the morning, Sun Zhicheng was utterly distracted.

His gaze kept drifting toward Chai Muying. Every time he saw her laughing and talking with someone else, he felt certain they were mocking him—she must have told everyone about his confession.

After class, Chen Yunyun retrieved her phone, and Chai Muying whispered something to her secretly.

But strangely, when Chen Yunyun returned to her seat, her expression showed no change. Could it be… Chai Muying hadn't betrayed him? Or was it…

It made no sense whatsoever.

Still dazed, Sun Zhicheng nearly fell during morning exercise. Luckily, someone reacted quickly and grabbed him—strong grip.

"Tha—" He turned—and saw it was Jiang Nian. The rest of "thank you" stuck in his throat.

After such a tense morning, noon dismissal finally arrived.

Sun Zhicheng collapsed completely in his seat, drenched in cold sweat by noon. Complex, anxious emotions kept crashing through his mind; his head burned, and every shadow seemed threatening.

He swore—he'd never confess again. If he ever did this again, he was an idiot!

After school, Jiang Nian left campus, rented a shared bicycle, and rode home.

The midday autumn sun was warm, neither cold nor hot.

He strolled slowly home, braking with a squeak beneath the building. He casually parked—then realized it wasn't a designated spot. The app clearly showed correct location.

He tried parking several times, failed each time, and the fee rose from 1.5 yuan to 3 yuan.

He broke.

"You fucking—"

【Ding! Lock successful!】

Jiang Nian: "..."

He stood in the building's shadow, turned sharply, and climbed the stairs.

Among several packages, he found the JK skirt, opened it, glanced inside, and even held it against his waist to check the fit.

"OK. Back to school. Complete the task."

He muttered, "Xu Qianqian, don't let me catch you."
