Chapter 141: I Have a Plan That Won't Hurt the Harmony

~11 min read 2,010 words

"You going to follow me wherever I go?" Chen Yunyun bit her lip.

Jiang Nian thought for a moment. "Because one mountain can't hold two tigers."

Chen Yunyun's fist instantly clenched. Was this dog of a man allergic to ambiguity?

But it wasn't even flirting—just casual chat between friends. Who you chat with doesn't matter; it's just passing time. Yeah, that's it.

"Why didn't you go play during PE today?"

"Went on a date," Jiang Nian joked. After dismissal, he returned to the classroom to solve problems.

"Huh?" Chen Yunyun spun around sharply. A flood of People's Daily maxims flashed in her mind, yet all she managed was a dry, "Early romance violates school rules?"

"Huh? Doesn't our school always encourage early romance?" Jiang Nian looked puzzled. "There's a couple in our class—I always feel like they're doing stuff in the classroom."

"Don't say it so loud, someone'll hear you," Chen Yunyun said, embarrassed, lowering her voice. "That couple you're talking about? They're right there in the classroom now."

"I'm not being down, I'm just being factual," Jiang Nian began complaining. Since it was idle chatter, the topic drifted like smoke, gradually veering off course.

"Several times during nap, I woke up half-asleep and saw them covering their heads with a uniform in the back row, giggling like they were in a bridal chamber."

Chen Yunyun winced. Bridal chamber? What kind of weird metaphor is that? She said.

"They're annoying, sure, but no one stops them."

"Why not?" Jiang Nian asked.

Chen Yunyun blushed, stammering.

"How do you even say that kind of thing?"

"Just say it outright. Stop shaking the desk. Just touch. Are you guys gonna do it on the desk?"

"It's a public classroom! These lovebirds are practically drooling, and I can't even speak up? I was sleeping fine, then I thought, where the hell is this faucet leaking from?"

Chen Yunyun listened to his blunt, wolfish words, covering her blazing red cheeks.

"Then just say that later."

"Fine."

"You're actually going to do it?!" Chen Yunyun felt equally embarrassed, panicked. "We're classmates—just let it go. Don't make enemies."

"You sit so close to Wang Yuhe—how do you even sleep through that during nap?"

"This…"

Chen Yunyun fell silent. These past few days, she and Wang Yuhe hadn't slept well during nap—those two lovebirds always snuck around in the back row, giggling and groping.

What made it worse: in the morning, they'd sit there seriously discussing problems like model students. But half an hour before afternoon nap, they'd slump on their desks and start fooling around.

At that point, nearly everyone in the classroom was preparing to nap. Hearing their stifled giggles and coos made anyone furious.

Afternoon classes were all science subjects. Who could endure days of poor nap sleep?

But for those two lovebirds, they studied and groped—both done. Let the rest of the class suffer through sleepless naps; let whoever wants to take the blame do so. They were having fun.

Seeing her hesitate, Jiang Nian spoke.

"Are you close to them?"

"Not at all," Chen Yunyun shook her head. "They're just weird. I'm just afraid you'll start a fight."

She didn't say the other thing: the big joint exam was coming. Those most affected would be students hoping to move up classes—only those who passed would become Class Three members.

She feared someone might use this to attack Jiang Nian. The odds were slim—this kind of thing had little real harm. Jiang Nian's grades? Impossible to drop.

But if someone said it to his face, it'd still be disgusting. Before a major exam, it could mess with your mindset.

Anyone bold enough to openly declare themselves a couple in class wouldn't be shy. So she desperately wanted to avoid Jiang Nian clashing with them.

At least not until the big joint exam ended in two days.

"Don't worry, there won't be a fight," Jiang Nian said, lifting his gaze toward Qingmu Ridge. The autumn afternoon sun glowed golden. "I'll just annoy them."

In the classroom, the latter half of nap time.

Wang Yuhe was fast asleep, half-awakened by a burst of giggles. She'd been exhausted from morning problems, her mind still foggy—she thought she was at home.

Had her sister left the TV on again?

She sat up, realizing she was in the classroom, and turned to look behind.

In the back row, a couple lay side by side on their desks, heads covered by a uniform. Something was happening under the desk—giggles all around.

Wang Yuhe instantly grew irritated. Can't you two go to a hotel for this? Why here?

Though annoyed, she was introverted and couldn't bring herself to speak up.

Woken up, she just wanted to fall back asleep—in her dream, she'd kill them all.

A few light-sleeping classmates turned their heads, dazed, and glanced back. They saw Ji Jiayu and her boyfriend Yuan Zhengchuan.

Two textbook-perfect teen drama lovebirds. The others were angry, but no one spoke up—no one wanted to make enemies.

Jiang Nian turned with a sour look, his gaze dark and damp as he glanced at them, then went back to sleep.

In the middle of the classroom, Luo Yong, the Lone Wolf, sighed heavily. He rented an apartment outside school, but for the big joint exam in two days, he'd decided to nap in class.

But every time he fell asleep, those two bastards behind woke him up.

How many days now? Every single day, they picked this exact time to make noise.

Annoying, annoying, annoying. I just want to punch their mothers dead. Can't you two date without an audience? I wish tomorrow they'd both take leave because their mothers dropped dead!!

With a boom, he stood up!

He walked toward the back row, silent, face grim.

Chen Yunyun and Wang Yuhe were stunned. A few other students turned. All eyes followed Luo Yong—Class Three's light had finally arrived!

Tell Da Gu, Daji's light is delayed—right now, justice must be served!

Ji Jiayu saw Luo Yong and nudged her boyfriend. Yuan Zhengchuan looked up, unimpressed, deciding to hear him out first.

"Hey, your talking's a bit loud. Can you keep it down just a little?"

The moment Luo Yong spoke, students secretly watching all dropped their expressions.

Pfft, soft dog.

"Sorry, we'll be more careful," Ji Jiayu whispered.

"Won't it bother you too much," Yuan Zhengchuan added.

One red face, one white face—Luo Yong was left utterly embarrassed; he scratched his head.

"Yeah, true."

Jiang Nian lay on the desk, asleep, listening the whole time without opening his eyes. The phone in his desk drawer still glowed—Lin Dong had replied to several messages.

Lunch break over.

As soon as Li Hua arrived, Jiang Nian pulled him outside.

The fourth-floor corridor after lunch buzzed with people; below, heads crowded thickly. Distant boarding students strolled slowly toward the school gate.

"What's up, Nian?"

"That couple in class, Ji something—they always make weird noises halfway through lunch break," Jiang Nian said briefly. "Big joint exam coming up. I don't want to see them in class during lunch."

"Then what do we do? I don't know them well," Li Hua said, uneasy. "Should I try?"

Jiang Nian smiled. "No need. I've got a plan—won't hurt anyone's feelings."

Li Hua leaned in, listened, and stared blankly.

"Holy shit, what kind of living hell king?"

"Just tell me if you can do it," Jiang Nian stared at him. "If you can't, I'll ask Lin Dong."

"You're obsessed with being a cuckold, aren't you!" Li Hua fumed, then added, "What's hard about it? Lower the class average. Let's do it."

First period, biology class.

Zhong Qing entered the classroom, arms full of books, face stern. She called out.

"Class!"

"Stand up!"

Students half-heartedly rose and sat again. Zhong Qing didn't start teaching. Instead, she opened the textbook and announced a biology dictation, debating who should come to the board.

"Anyone volunteer?"

As soon as she spoke, someone shouted.

"Teacher! Ji Jiayu just raised her hand!"

Hearing this, Ji Jiayu froze. Before she could say she hadn't raised her hand, Li Hua shouted too.

"Teacher, she really did raise her hand!"

Then several boys started hooting; Jiang Nian blended in.

"Teacher, call on her."

Zhong Qing, confused but assuming Ji Jiayu had indeed raised her hand, simply called her up.

"Then Ji Jiayu, come up."

Normally, at this point, someone would hoot—calling out the boyfriend's name, Yuan Zhengchuan, to watch the couple scribble on the board.

But only a few scattered voices rose; hardly anyone teased.

Zhong Qing didn't care. Even if they were teasing, she wouldn't fully obey the students' wishes. A teacher is like a vegetable farmer—you can't let the cabbage have its way.

Let them get too comfortable, and next time their grades will crash.

"Luo Yong, come up."

"Ooooh!!!" The class erupted in hooting.

"Seize this chance, Brother Yong!"

"Damn, Yong's luck is insane!"

Beneath her seat, Chen Yunyun looked bewildered. What was up with these guys today? Suddenly hooting at Ji Jiayu—even though they usually did this.

But today was different. They weren't hooting at Yuan Zhengchuan, the real boyfriend.

In the classroom, Yuan Zhengchuan sat in his seat, face dark. No one could bear watching classmates tease his girlfriend with another boy.

Especially not Luo Yong—the goblin under 1.6 meters tall.

It wasn't sadness so much as disgust.

But six or seven boys were hooting; Yuan Zhengchuan couldn't stop them alone. He couldn't go one by one and tell them to stop these jokes.

Kids, this isn't funny.

After first period, half the class collapsed onto their desks.

Lin Dong dragged Sun Zhicheng out of the classroom. In the hallway, he lowered his voice.

"Ah Cheng, help me out."

"What do you need, Boss Dong? Just say it," Sun Zhicheng said. He had reached the realm of Heaven-Man Unity; his life now felt wide open.

He had someone he liked—slowly transitioning from friendship. He had a good brother like Lin Dong. Boss Dong might be a blond, but he had no interest in Chen Yunyun.

The one he liked and his best brother were both beside him. What more could he ask for?

"Later, Ji Jiayu—"

After second period, physics, a boy ran over to Ji Jiayu to borrow her test paper. She got along well with him and gladly agreed.

"Here."

"Thanks. I'll return it this afternoon," the boy said, leaving.

Last period, afternoon self-study. Someone reminded Ji Jiayu to sit on the podium to maintain discipline. It was a class rule: rotation by student ID.

Ji Jiayu sat up there, ready to bow her head and do homework.

"Hey, move a little left. You're blocking my view of the board," Jiang Nian said.

"Oh, okay," Ji Jiayu, seeing it was Jiang Nian, shifted left.

Lin Dong spoke up, "That won't do, you're blocking me."

The whole class burst into laughter. Ji Jiayu laughed too, her lips pressed together in mock anger.

"Are you two sick or something!"

Luo Yong, sitting in the middle of the classroom, looked up and watched them interacting with Ji Jiayu. He laughed along at first, then couldn't help but start having some thoughts of his own.

Ji Jiayu seemed quite popular with the boys. Thinking back to how he and Ji Jiayu had gone up to the podium together that afternoon for the dictation, he felt he should say something too, join in a bit.

"You're blocking me from the middle too."

"You're all sick!" Ji Jiayu pouted prettily, glaring at them.

Yuan Zhengchuan felt a bit uncomfortable. Since the afternoon began, he had kept seeing boys interacting with his girlfriend. Although it was all normal interaction between classmates, but—

Had Ji Jiayu forgotten that she was his girlfriend!

Could she just not pay attention to them?

Yuan Zhengchuan lowered his head to look at the math problems, feeling for the first time that time was passing very slowly. He was hoping the afternoon self-study period would end quickly, so he could have a proper talk with his girlfriend.
