Chapter 189: No, you really plan to eat it?

~8 min read 1,457 words

Some people around stopped moving, listening as the boss cursed loudly.

"What kind of素质 do students have these days! Call the cops and arrest his mom!"

Hearing this, Yang Qiming turned to look at Huang Cailang.

"Cailang, won't he get arrested?"

For caution's sake, Qiming's cousin used "he" to refer to Jiang Nian.

"Ah, probably not—he just sprayed water, no physical contact." Huang Cailang strained to recall relevant knowledge.

In freshman year, the school held a safety lecture, featuring a cadre from the municipal public security bureau.

That uncle spoke with humor and wit, so Huang Cailang still remembered certain details.

"It's not intentional harm; even if they show up, it's just a few yuan in compensation. The police aren't that idle—they won't bother checking every camera for that boss."

Hearing this, Yang Qiming nodded.

"Good."

Though he wasn't close to Jiang Nian, outside school he felt a stronger sense of "same class" solidarity. Besides, the boss had been dishonest first—he deserved it.

In plain terms, street vending along the school perimeter is a zero-cost business.

Even if you mixed Oreo crumbs into dumplings and sold them to students, the students wouldn't notice.

If students got diarrhea, they wouldn't know how to complain about vendors—just word of mouth.

In this regard, students themselves are a vulnerable group.

Fuck, even for a good-natured god of wealth, they cheat so brazenly—how high could their moral bottom be?

North gate of the school.

A student in a denim jacket blended into the crowd, carrying a box of milk.

Amid the drizzle, he joined the crowd—some with umbrellas, some soaked—and entered the gate.

Jiang Nian never entered through the west gate; he circled around entirely.

He had long since taken off his black hoodie—he was now two different people.

He walked alongside several students in denim jackets for a while, then turned into an alley.

He followed the path along the teachers' apartment complex all the way to the end, stopping at a wall.

Using a shared bike leaning against the wall, he simply climbed over.

Forget spraying water—it's even better if you actually hit that idiot boss.

If the boss didn't pay someone to monitor the cameras, he'd never find Jiang Nian's trail.

As for checking the cameras—ha, forget it.

You get sprayed with water and you want the police to help you check cameras? Only a crazy cop would bother.

Of course, even if they did find him, Jiang Nian wasn't afraid.

Local natives aren't scared of anything—can't you speak up if someone sells spoiled food? Besides, there was no physical contact; at worst, you just mock the boss a few times and spit again next time.

Come find me—next time I'll spit on you from a面包车!

After entering the school, he ate a six-yuan meal in the dorm cafeteria.

After eating his fill, it was fully dark; he slowly strolled back to the Gao San building.

Just as he reached the fourth floor, Chen Yunyun and Wang Yuhe were standing in the corridor talking.

Turning his head, he saw Jiang Nian passing by; Chen Yunyun immediately grabbed him. She studied him closely, then asked with confusion.

"Why are you wet?"

"Oh, I went to buy something and didn't bring an umbrella." Jiang Nian rubbed his hair, utterly unconcerned, "It's just a little rain—it's kinda nice."

Hearing this, Chen Yunyun rolled her eyes.

"Aren't you going to catch a cold?"

"Hah, what a joke." Jiang Nian seemed to have heard something hilarious, "Catch a cold from this little rain? You're underestimating me."

Thinking for a moment, Chen Yunyun pulled out half a pack of tissues from her pocket.

"Wipe yourself."

"Yeah, thanks." Jiang Nian took the tissues, then looked up at Chen Yunyun again, hesitated, and asked, "If I take these tissues, won't you have none left?"

"Y-y-y!!!" Chen Yunyun's face flushed bright red—she knew this guy too well, "Don't say it! It's not what you think!"

"Wipe your face." Jiang Nian frowned, "Huh? Why can't you say wipe your face? After washing your face, do you just stand in the corridor letting the wind dry it?"

Chen Yunyun: "... Fine, don't talk anymore."

The classroom was brightly lit; he didn't see Zhang Nenzhi's figure.

He had just sat down when his phone buzzed.

Zhang Nenzhi sent several messages; he opened them to find she couldn't come.

"Um… my dad has something to do, so he can't drop me off. It's dark and raining outside, and my mom got me a leave of absence—she won't let me come to school."

"Rest well at home—it really is cold out there." Jiang Nian replied, "If you catch a cold, it'll hurt your class tomorrow more than it helps."

"Mm (disappointed)." Zhang Nenzhi replied.

"No problem—I'll take photos of each test paper for you." Jiang Nian typed while leaning back, glanced around to ensure safety, then sent two more messages.

"The test papers are due on the weekend—no rush to do them. I'll photograph the physics quiz for you; you finish it and send me your answers, and I'll copy them down for you."

Soon after, Zhang Nenzhi replied.

"Won't that be too much trouble?"

"Not at all—isn't this special treatment for a sick person?" Jiang Nian's fingers danced across his screen, "Anyway, you're not falling behind on studying just because you're not here tonight."

Zhang Nenzhi: "Thanks so much. (cute)"

"No thanks needed." Jiang Nian replied instantly.

The free stuff is the most expensive; all the stakes have already been secretly priced.

He could already imagine what kind of feeding he'd receive tomorrow—being a lickspittle really does have its perks.

Baby Zhizhi, rich little loli, slurp-slurp, licking furiously!

How tragic—how could anyone become a lickspittle?

So what?

It was almost time for evening reading when Li Hua arrived late, accompanied by Ma Guojun. The two of them exchanged winks and grins, their faces wearing expressions that seemed lewd on the surface but were clearly those of virgins.

"Nian, I've got something super cool to tell you."

"What?" Jiang Nian scratched his neck, flipping through A Shuai.

"You wouldn't believe it—there's that little square in front of the school's west gate, right? There are vendors there." Li Hua grinned. "Some jerk got into it with the vendor."

"I heard he literally spat right in the vendor's face. Let me tell you, the scene—" Fat Ma Guojun also beamed, as if it were the New Year.

Jiang Nian grew increasingly suspicious—wasn't that his cousin's doing?

"Nian, why aren't you laughing?" Li Hua roared.

Ma Guojun also chuckled and asked, "Yeah, isn't it funny?"

"Hahaha, hard to judge," Jiang Nian forced a awkward laugh. "I think this student went too far—can't you just talk properly?"

"Hey, I can't agree with you there," Li Hua said seriously. "That bastard vendor's stuff is always broken—I got screwed once myself."

"Still, it's just a kid with a stomachache," Jiang Nian said solemnly, as the BGM began playing in his ears: 【We're All Trying Hard to Live】

Ma Guojun and Li Hua exchanged glances, staring at Jiang Nian.

"Is that guy your relative?"

"Nope, I'm just an impartial observer, a total stranger," Jiang Nian wore a look of pure innocence and added, "That vendor has no parents above and no children below—just surviving is hard enough."

Li Hua and Ma Guojun exchanged glances again, utterly baffled.

Isn't it "parents above and children below"?

Yao Bei Bei stepped into the classroom as the evening reading bell rang, walking down the aisle of the first row.

She glanced once and saw Zhang Ningzhi's seat empty—so she didn't return to her own.

Instead, she simply leapt over Jiang Nian's seat and took it over.

"Baby Zhizhi isn't coming tonight?"

"Yeah, she can't come," Jiang Nian replied vaguely.

Yao Bei Bei was like a little street-corner detective—always itching to gossip. Before the situation was clear, it was best not to give her too much info.

"She didn't tell you?" Yao Bei Bei leaned back in her chair, popping a lollipop into her mouth. "I don't believe you—unless you show me your chat logs."

"I'm a savage—I don't use a phone," Jiang Nian cut in, refusing to follow her rhythm. "What candy is that? Give me one."

"None left—just this one," Yao Bei Bei pulled out the lollipop and held it toward Jiang Nian. "If you don't mind, go ahead and eat it."

Jiang Nian leaned in—Yao Bei Bei instantly yanked her hand back.

"What the hell?"

"You really plan to lick it?"

Hearing this, Jiang Nian's face twisted into an embarrassed smile.

"No, I was planning to spit on it."

"Fuck, you're disgusting, Jiang Nian!" Yao Bei Bei gagged dramatically, shoving the lollipop back into her mouth. "I'm telling Baby Zhizhi later."

"Heh."
