Chapter 408: No More Leg-Grabbing
"Can't find it, Nian-ge."
Luo Yong deflated, sitting on a big bluestone outside the basketball court's wire fence.
"Keep looking. Bring out that patience you have for finding videos for two or three hours." Jiang Nian didn't mind, glancing around.
"How do you know about...." Luo Yong sucked in a breath of cold air.
"That one over there, looks like nobody's in it." Jiang Nian didn't banter with him, pointing at a storage room at the entrance.
"That one..." Luo Yong squinted his Ye Yanqing and took a look, "But there's no rental notice posted outside."
"Just ask first, right? They put in a new security door and they're not renting?" Jiang Nian walked over, looked back to see Luo Yong still in place.
"What are you doing?"
"No, bro, that's a teacher." Luo Yong chickened out.
"So what if she's a teacher?" Jiang Nian was a bit speechless, "I'm still the Improvement of Two Hundred Points Motivational Star, aren't I?"
"How can that be the same?"
"How is it different? If I improved three hundred points, even the principal would find me a room." Jiang Nian scoffed,
went upstairs and knocked.
Luo Yong still didn't dare, could only follow behind Jiang Nian upstairs.
"Bro, you got this."
Jiang Nian gave him a warning look, hummed an acknowledgment.
Three knocks, and the door opened.
"Who are you looking for?" A middle-aged woman, estimated to be in her thirties or forties, opened the door, looking like a school teacher.
Jiang Nian took the chance to explain their purpose, learned the other party did indeed intend to rent. Found the keys, led them downstairs to open the door and look around.
However, the price was relatively high.
"240?" Bao Weiwei frowned slightly, said instinctively, "But there's only one desk, and this bed is too beat up."
Jiang Nian didn't really understand, and didn't speak up.
Yong-ge might be unreliable at practicing basketball, and he's timid too. But generally speaking, everyone has their own skill they're good at, each has their strengths. The middle-aged female teacher at first said she'd find someone to swap the bed, but when Luo Yong asked when it could be swapped, she sighed.
"Forget it, swap the bed yourself. I'll give you a discount, two hundred."
"But you can't really buy much of a bed for two hundred-something?" Luo Yong stumbled, "This bed isn't easy to take apart either, and it takes up space."
The middle-aged female teacher held her forehead, glanced at that wooden bed, said quite helplessly.
"One-eighty, can't go any lower."
Jiang Nian's eyelid twitched, thinking to himself you really can't underestimate anyone.
If it were him negotiating, seeing the other party was a female teacher. Seeing this storage room could meet the requirements, he'd probably agree to two-forty.
Renting for six months, Luo Yong's haggling was equivalent to saving three-sixty directly.
Badass.
"A bit cheaper, and I'll pay right now." Luo Yong was still outputting, pulled out his phone and opened the calcu
lator, started his one-finger zen.
Middle-aged female teacher: "
Jiang Nian: "
No, bros, you need to pull out a calculator for this?
The middle-aged female teacher couldn't hold it in first, turned her head to look at the more delicately-featured Jiang Nian.
"Which class are you students from?"
With a clatter, Luo Yong's phone trembled and dropped to the ground.
"Slipped, my hand.... slipped."
"Olympiad Class Three, Liu Laoshi's class." Jiang Nian just told the truth straight out, anyway he wasn't running an orgy in the room.
Shenzhen isn't afraid....
"Oh oh, Liu Laoshi, right?" The middle-aged female teacher suddenly realized, "That dog.... meticulous teacher."
Luo Yong: "?"
"You student, you look a bit familiar?" The middle-aged female teacher sucked in a breath of cold air, "Where have I seen you before?"
"Motivational Star?" Jiang Nian probed.
Luo Yong heard this, almost couldn't hold back his laughter.
No, bro.
You really took out this crappy title to wave around?
Outside of school, teachers are people too, how could they possibly recognize you, this Learning Star?
Trying to get close isn't done this way, if this works, I'll just eat....
"Right, the Motivational Star." A smile appeared on the middle-aged female teacher's face, "You're that student who improved two hundred points, right?"
"Yeah, renting is also convenient for napping at noon." Jiang Nian acted cute, "I'm too lazy to keep looking too, if it could be a bit cheaper that'd be great."
"Give you one-fifty then, saves me trouble too." The middle-aged female teacher waved her hand, "Anyway I'm not relying on this to make money."
Luo Yong's face was just pure disbelief, screaming inside.
【Ah! What a funny-sounding title, Motivational Star. This thing actually works outside school? This is way too damn weird!】
He had a premonition, below one-eighty it would be hard to haggle.
No matter how he picked at it, at most he could only haggle down to one-seventy.
Who would've thought, the Motivational Star Jiang Nian casually mentioned when he came. Nobody took it to heart, and in the end it really damn well came in handy.
What the hell.
"Alright, thanks, Teacher." Jiang Nian got ready to scan the code.
The road by the faculty apartments, at the exit.
Cat Senior Sister was taking a leisurely stroll, coming out from around the corner. Seeing Luo Yong had taken her spot, she froze on the spot.
She meowed a few times, sounding like a very foul-mouthed curse.
"This little cat's actually pretty cute." Luo Yong didn't move, sitting on the big rock. "Didn't expect the motivational star to actually work!"
"Right, this is the meaning of studying." Jiang Nian casually played it cool. "Let's go, I'll treat you to a meal."
Around the lunch break hour, only the north gate
side still had food available.
Jiang Nian led Luo Yong around to outside the north gate, found a little restaurant and ordered a few dishes. When they were nearly done eating, he noticed Luo Yong seemed to want to say something but held back.
"Something on your mind?"
"Actually... there is something, Brother Nian." Luo Yong hemmed and hawed for a bit. "About me being a starter—I want to get on the field and play."
"Then next time you start, and when you're tired we'll sub in Yang Qiming." Jiang Nian said. "Yang Qiming's stamina isn't as good as yours."
"Really?" Luo Yong instantly perked up.
He hadn't expected Jiang Nian to be so decisive, but then remembering how decisively he'd been pulled from the lineup, he suddenly didn't feel so excited anymore.
"Don't worry, I'll play my heart out!"
"Mm, our class will definitely take the championship." Jiang Nian said casually, as if mentioning something trivial. "We'll split the prize money when the time comes."
Hearing that, Luo Yong got worked up again.
A championship brings not only honor and trophy photos, but real, tangible benefits—namely, a hefty prize.
If this were a few days ago, hearing Jiang Nian talk about winning the championship—even if he didn't say it out loud, in his heart he probably would've sneered at it.
But after that match on Zhou Yi, Luo Yong was thoroughly convinced.
The championship—they would win it!
"No way, bro." After the meal Luo Yong followed Jiang Nian to outside the wall, looked up at him. "We're really climbing the wall?"
"You climbing or not? If not, I'm leaving." Jiang Nian sat astride the top of the wall, a bit exasperated.
"Climbing!"
Lunch break.
Jiang Nian quietly slipped back into the classroom, planning to work on the test paper first.
Chen Yunyun, when he came in, was lying on her desk napping. Her hair draped down as she lifted her head from the desk and glanced at him.
She looked half-awake, got up and wobbled her way over to Jiang Nian's side.
"Where'd you go?"
"Out for something." Jiang Nian didn't mention the apartment, planning to take them over in the afternoon. "What's going on with you?"
"Nothing, just a little dizzy." Chen Yunyun rubbed her temples. "Probably because my hair wasn't dry—I accidentally fell asleep just now."
Hearing that, Jiang Nian couldn't help glancing at her again, his heart giving a small jump.
She couldn't have been waiting for him, could she?
"Did you take any medicine?" Jiang Nian asked.
"No, I'll be fine in a bit."
"Hold on, I remember Li Hua has some children's bupleurum." Jiang Nian lowered his voice, then started rummaging around.
In a moment, Jiang Nian used the hot water from his thermos to mix up a cup of cold medicine granules.
As for the container, he used the thermos lid—he didn't usually drink hot water from the lid, always using the little glass cup Baby Zhizhi had given him.
Chen Yunyun's condition was worse than she'd said—her head felt as heavy as if it were filled with lead. Her breathing was hot too, and her throat was a little dry.
When she climbed up from the desk
she was already feeling really uncomfortable.
She'd been able to stay lucid while talking to Jiang Nian just now, but once it grew quiet around her, her eyelids started slowly growing heavy.
Suddenly, a cup of cold medicine granules was set down in front of her.
Wisps of white steam rose, warming her face.
Chen Yunyun's eyes slowly widened. She glanced at the cup lid, then looked up at Jiang Nian, and blinked a few times.
"Mm?"
"Drink it—afraid I poisoned it?" Jiang Nian's voice was very quiet, since it was already past the lunch break period. "Oh." Chen Yunyun held the washed cup lid in both hands, sipping little by little; the warmth traveled from her chest all the way down to her stomach.
She seemed to feel a little better, not so uncomfortable anymore.
After lunch break.
Li Hua came into the classroom and felt around in his desk drawer.
"Where's my medicine?"
Jiang Nian was still working on the test paper, not looking up as he said,
"I didn't have anything to drink at noon, so I just brewed it up. What about it?"
"Oh oh, you took medicine as a drink?" Li Hua was a bit too softened by having taken someone's benefit to even bring up the red-stone incident.
After all, those two junior high girls, while not as pretty as the junior girls Jiang Nian hung around with, were... dewy and fresh.
Nothing like that rare breed of Gao San girls who opened their mouths filthier than anything.
"Done writing?" Baby Zhizhi walked in from the doorway, handed Jiang Nian a can of Wangzai milk, and said, "Let me take a look."
"Almost." Jiang Nian hunched over the desk for a few minutes, finished the last big organic chemistry problem, and handed it to Zhang Nianzhi to mark.
Just in time, the class bell rang.
"Class is starting—I'll mark it for you later." Baby Zhizhi pressed her lips together, then sat up properly, on guard against wandering hands.
However, the little thief didn't reach out.
"Mm, sure." Jiang Nian pulled out his second-round language review materials and covered the chemistry test paper with them. "Are we going over classical Chinese today?"
Zhang Ningzhi's face was full of confusion as she stared at him for a few moments.
Hm?
"What's wrong?" Jiang Nian, equally confused, looked at her.
"N-nothing." Zhang Ningzhi turned her head away, unconsciously furrowing her brow. "Going over... I also forgot what we were going over."
Her heart was in some disarray, thinking to herself that not touching was just as well.
Anyway, she didn't want to be touched either.
