Chapter 27: These Days, Changing Careers Is Really Hard

~6 min read 1,142 words

West of Sunset Canyon, the Zhao family’s defensive zone.

“Roar—!”

Several Lv.8 wolf-type monsters roared as they charged toward Zhao Yu.

Zhao Yu’s expression was cold and composed as he skillfully adjusted his position.

The staff in his hand blazed with red light, fire elements fully activated.

“Multiple Exploding Fireballs!”

With a low shout, he swung his staff sharply.

Whoosh—!

A massive fireball split instantly in midair, dividing into five fireballs the size of human heads, striking each wolf with pinpoint accuracy.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

Five explosions erupted nearly simultaneously.

The monsters never even screamed—they were blown apart, skin and flesh charred black, bodies flung in all directions.

“Perfect! Young Master Zhao, your five-fold explosion is pure mastery!”

His teammates immediately fawned, “No wonder you’re Young Master Zhao—you’ve mastered splitting five fireballs so soon after your career change. This DPS is terrifying.”

Zhao Yu panted heavily, pulling a blue mana potion from his waist and downing it in one gulp.

Even with S-rank affinity, repeatedly using such an advanced skill drained immense mental and magical energy.

But he loved this feeling.

Sweat slid down his cheeks, mana surging through his body—proof he was growing stronger.

At that moment,

A reconnaissance officer hurried over.

“Young Master Zhao!”

Zhao Yu wiped sweat from his brow and asked casually, “How’s Lin Mo doing?”

Deep down, he still couldn’t bring himself to believe Lin Mo had truly given up.

After all, he’d been the constant benchmark since childhood.

Even if Lin Mo had awakened a blank talent, he couldn’t possibly not understand that “level alone without combat skill is useless.”

The officer’s expression twisted with unease; after a pause, he reported honestly:

“Uh… Report, Young Master Zhao. Master Lin is lying in bed, apparently watching a movie, with a maid feeding him fruit.”

“I can’t see anything beyond that—a wall of earth suddenly appeared and blocked the view. All I can see now is weak monsters being thrown into the wall one after another…”

“A wall of earth?”

Zhao Yu frowned slightly.

Probably Stone’s doing—this security setup was absurdly excessive.

The air froze for several seconds.

Then Zhao Yu let out a scoff and shook his head.

“Worthless. Completely worthless.”

Zhao Yu slammed his staff hard onto the ground and said coldly:

“I used to actually see him as my rival… even trained obsessively to surpass him.”

“Now I realize, treating someone like him as an opponent is an insult to me.”

“Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.”

With that, Zhao Yu turned away from that side entirely, his battle fervor burning even brighter.

“Too slow! These monsters aren’t enough! Next wave—bring them all! I’ll fight ten at once!!!”

【I’LL FIGHT TEN!!!】

【“Fireball” roared in outrage: One? Just one? Are you mocking me?!】

East of Sunset Canyon, the Lin family camp.

Three towering, thick earthen walls stood like a fortress, enclosing Lin Mo.

Inside the fortress, Lin Mo lay on his side, holding a chilled glass of watermelon juice.

Beside him, a maid held a tablet playing a comedy film.

“Gulps—gulps—”

Lin Mo sipped the juice, utterly relaxed.

On top of the five-meter-high earthen walls, Ye Hongyu stood rigidly alert, scanning the surroundings from above.

“Young Master, monsters are coming.”

Ye Hongyu warned.

No sooner had she spoken than a crippled 【Steppe Demon Wolf】 was hurled over the wall by Ah Hu.

Boom—!

Fireball shot out and instantly obliterated it.

【“Fireball” protested: I said ten! Why send them one at a time? What’s the point?!】

Lin Mo sighed helplessly and called up to the wall: “Ye Jie, toss in more at once—ten or fifteen at a time.”

Ye Hongyu paused, startled.

She had never seen Lin Mo’s “Multiple Exploding Fireballs.”

Even last night, due to sparse monster distribution, they’d only sent one or two at a time.

Though Young Master’s micro-management was flawless, such volume risked total chaos.

“No problem. Just throw them,” Lin Mo waved dismissively. “I’ll take responsibility if anything goes wrong.”

Seeing this, Ye Hongyu said no more.

Worst case, she could eliminate ten or fifteen low-level monsters in an instant—she had that ability.

Ye Hongyu shouted to those beyond the wall:

“Fifteen at once—throw them all!”

Outside, over a dozen soldiers hesitated a moment, then unleashed their strength together.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Fifteen half-dead monsters of various types flew over the towering earthen wall and crashed onto the open ground to the right of the bed.

Standing atop the wall, Ye Hongyu’s hand gripped her blade, muscles taut.

If Young Master couldn’t handle it, she’d descend instantly to clear the field.

But the next second—

A fiery orange fireball shot out—and the moment it left his hand, it quivered violently, splitting instantly in midair.

One… five… ten… fifteen!

Dozens of small fireballs locked onto each monster still in midair.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

“Multiple… Exploding Fireballs?!”

From her position atop the wall, Ye Hongyu’s view was the most stunning.

She watched those fifteen fireballs move like autonomous guided missiles, weaving and darting through the air.

“This…”

Ye Hongyu stared, dumbfounded, as the entire group of monsters was wiped out in one precise strike.

He’d mastered Multiple Exploding Fireballs—and split fifteen at once?

From what she knew, Zhao Yu of the Zhao family could barely manage four or five at most—and even that was legendary across Jianghai City.

“No wonder he’s my Young Master…”

Ye Hongyu murmured, “This calmness… this talent… Zhao Yu’s so-called S-rank doesn’t even deserve to polish his shoes.”

She lowered her gaze, peering through the lingering smoke, down at Lin Mo below.

In the glow of the flames, Lin Mo still lay in his relaxed, carefree side-lying pose, watching the tablet in the maid’s hands.

As if the “fifteen-kill” had barely registered.

This was true strength—the kind who remains unmoved even as mountains collapse before him…

【“Fireball” roared triumphantly: YES!!! SO GOOD!!!】

【“Fireball” yearned for more: This is the grandeur I deserve! That explosion was perfection! Again!】

【“Earth Shield” whimpered: No… please no… so many at once—what if one slips through? Master, this is too dangerous!】

【“Fireball” erupted in rage: Dangerous? Slip through? Are you questioning my power?!】

【“Earth Shield” curled into a ball: I’m not talking to you—I’m talking to Master! Master… maybe we should send fewer monsters next time?】

【“Fireball” trembled with fury.】

Watching his own skill bar nearly come to blows, Lin Mo sighed and stepped in to mediate.

“Alright, enough. Stop arguing.”

“Little Earth, trust your big brother—he’s reckless, but he’s precise.”

“Little Fire, calm down. Don’t scare your little brother—he’s just looking out for me.”

【“Earth Shield”: Hmph…】

【[Fireball Spell]: Chie...】

On the skill bar, the two icons side by side turned in opposite directions, back to back, ignoring each other.

«...»

Lin Mo couldn’t help but twitch his mouth.

These days, changing classes isn’t easy—you even have to mediate between your skills...
