Chapter 6: Two Tasks at Once?

~7 min read 1,396 words

Ye Hongyu turned her head to look at Lin Mo.

At this moment, Lin Mo stood there with his hands in his pockets, slouching casually, his face relaxed.

Second-stage mental guidance, though not an especially advanced technique among mages—higher-level mages can even achieve third- or fourth-stage control, precisely shaping fireballs into flowers midair—

but the problem is…

this young master here only awakened yesterday!

A brand-new, unaffiliated mage, less than twenty-four hours since class transition, with no elemental affinity, yet forcing skill trajectory adjustments purely through raw mental power?

No wonder…

No wonder the young master didn’t even spare a glance at the high-agility Shadow Wolf.

No wonder he didn’t even bother moving position just now.

He even scratched his ear?

So this is what true strength’s confidence looks like?

“Miss Ye?”

Seeing Ye Hongyu staring at him blankly, Lin Mo spoke up, “What’s wrong? Why are you standing there? Next one.”

Ye Hongyu snapped back to reality and took a deep breath.

She forcibly suppressed her shock; her gaze at Lin Mo had completely changed, now holding a trace of genuine admiration.

“Nothing, Young Master.”

“I just didn’t expect your control over Fireball had reached this level.”

“It seems I overestimated the threat—your control makes the Shadow Wolf no danger at all.”

“Hahaha, is that impressive?”

Lin Mo scratched his head, slightly embarrassed.

After all, he hadn’t done anything—he’d just shouted, “Little Fire, up!”

"Fireball" rolled his eyes: Just a slight curve. Is this woman really that inexperienced?

【“Fireball” picked its nose and sneered: If I gave her a Thomas Flip 720-degree spin followed by a Z-shaped Ghost Step, then drew a heart in the air, wouldn’t she drop to her knees screaming “God”?】

【Humans are so easily amazed!】

“...Shut up.”

Lin Mo internally sighed.

This little fireball talks too much…

Ye Hongyu steadied her emotions and said seriously:

“Young Master, since you have such precise control, let’s change tactics.”

“Since accuracy isn’t an issue, these high-agility but fragile monsters are perfect—next, I’ll lure them, reduce them to low health, and toss them your way; you handle the finishing blows.”

“This will be most efficient.”

“Sure thing, Miss Ye, let’s do it!”

Lin Mo grinned at the idea.

He didn’t even have to move his legs—he could just sit here and wait. Perfect.

“Alright, Young Master, stay safe.”

Ye Hongyu wasted no more words; her figure flashed, becoming a streak of black light that shot into the deep forest.

Watching Ye Hongyu vanish into the trees, Lin Mo stretched lazily.

He glanced around, spotted a crooked, sturdy-looking tree, plopped down against its trunk, and settled into the most comfortable position possible.

Then, skillfully, he pulled out his phone from his pocket, turned it sideways, and started playing a game.

“Good thing this damn forest has signal…”

Lin Mo muttered, and casually launched into a ranked match.

【“Fireball” roared: Where are the monsters? Where?! I need to farm! I need to evolve!】

“Calm down.”

Lin Mo didn’t look up, his fingers dancing across the screen.

“Miss Ye’s going to lure monsters for us—just rest for now. You’ll have plenty to do soon.”

【“Fireball” snorted: Rest? My dictionary doesn’t have “rest.” Only slaughter! Only becoming stronger! I’m destined to become a Forbidden Spell!】

Moments later,

a rustling erupted from the bushes nearby.

“Young Master, catch!”

With Ye Hongyu’s light cry,

whoosh—

a dark shadow arced through the air: a Shadow Wolf, its hind leg broken.

“Here it comes!”

Lin Mo kept his eyes glued to his phone screen, deep in a team fight, not even lifting his eyelids.

【“Fireball” instantly thrilled: Die, you bastard!】

BOOM!

A fireball struck the screaming Shadow Wolf midair with pinpoint accuracy.

Fire erupted—single hit, one kill!

【Killed Shadow Wolf, EXP +20!】

“Perfect aim!”

Ye Hongyu, having just landed, praised aloud.

But when she looked toward the tree, she froze again.

There sat Lin Mo, exactly as before, cradling his phone, muttering under his breath:

“Are you blind, ADC? Don’t die! Retreat to the tower! Retreat!”

Ye Hongyu: “...”

The young master… is playing a game?

He didn’t even lift his head for that shot?

Ye Hongyu found it unbelievable; she gritted her teeth and dashed back into the woods.

Not long after, Ye Hongyu returned again.

“Young Master, here comes another!”

This time, instead of tossing the wounded Shadow Wolf directly in front of him, she hurled it high into the air.

Lin Mo kept staring at the screen, fingers hammering:

“Support, are you blind?! Protect me! Don’t charge! Come back and protect me!”

At the same time, the fireball shot upward with a whistle.

whoosh—!

【“Fireball” looked at the airborne target and sneered: Flying high helps? Die!】

BOOM!

The fireball collided precisely with the falling Shadow Wolf, instantly exploding it into shreds.

“You hit that?!”

Ye Hongyu refused to believe it; she dashed back into the forest again.

This time, she grabbed a venomous spider and threw it from Lin Mo’s blind spot.

“Young Master, watch your back!”

“Base raid?! Damn it, someone’s stealing the base!”

Lin Mo cursed into his phone.

To Ye Hongyu, it sounded like he was yelling at his in-game opponent—or perhaps responding to reality.

Just as the spider was about to land,

whoosh!

A fireball shot out from Lin Mo’s side, then made an impossibly sharp, unscientific right-angle turn midair, looping behind the tree.

THUD!

A muffled crash echoed behind the tree—the venomous spider exploded into a spray of fluid.

And Lin Mo? Still seated as solid as a mountain, never even turned his head.

Ye Hongyu stood frozen, staring at the boy lost in his game, her scalp prickling.

For the next half hour, a red figure darted through the woods, continuously hurling half-dead monsters toward the tree.

Shadow Wolves, venomous spiders, even a few unlucky Ironhide Boars.

And the boy beneath the tree? He might as well have had a full-map hack.

No matter from which impossible angle Ye Hongyu tossed the monsters—behind him, above him, behind the tree…

the fireball always arrived first, exploding violently the instant it touched the target, never letting a single monster land.

Most terrifying of all: throughout it all, Lin Mo never once took his eyes off his phone screen!

“This is… true genius?”

After throwing another shadow wolf away, Ye Hongyu breathed lightly, gazing at the lazy figure in the distance, her heart surging with shock.

Divided attention!

No, this was no longer simple divided attention.

This was the realm of “Heart’s Eye,” where spiritual perception had been refined!

She didn’t need to see with her eyes—she could lock onto every target and calculate perfect trajectories solely by sensing air currents and spiritual energy.

“General Lin always says the Young Master is lazy...”

Ye Hongyu wiped sweat from her brow, her eyes filled with awe. “Is this what the world of a genius looks like? Killing these monsters is easier for him than a mobile game?”

“No wonder the tiger doesn’t raise a dog—no, he’s surpassed his father!”

As time passed, the sun slowly sank westward.

Beneath the tree.

A warm golden light shimmered over Lin Mo.

【Congratulations! Your level has risen to Lv.5!】

【Your skill “Fireball” has grown restless from today’s slaughter—it’s thrilled, and its proficiency has surged dramatically. Current level: Lv.5!】

Lin Mo stretched comfortably and put away his phone.

“Awesome! Five wins in a row, and I leveled up too. Life’s getting better.”

At that moment,

Ye Hongyu stepped out from the forest.

After a full day of luring monsters, even as a high-rank practitioner, she was utterly exhausted.

“Young Master, congratulations.”

Ye Hongyu spoke sincerely. “Leveling to Lv.5 on the second day—that’s already very fast.”

Lin Mo stood up, put away his phone, and patted his backside. “It’s mostly because of your excellent monster-luring, Ye Jie.”

Ye Hongyu changed the subject:

“Young Master, the General just sent word—he’s prepared a ‘Random Outdoor Dungeon Scroll’ for you. The dungeon grants more EXP than open wilderness. Let’s head back to collect it, then grab a meal.”

Lin Mo nodded.

“Alright, let’s head back.”

【“Fireball” bounced wildly on the interface, leaving drool: Hurry! Hurry! Stir-fry the Crimson Flame Dragon! Dinner’s ready!】

“Yes, Young Master.”

Watching Lin Mo’s calm, effortless demeanor, Ye Hongyu’s respect deepened further.

As the SUV’s engine roared to life, the two left the Darkwood Forest, heading straight for the Lin family estate.
