Chapter 84: When the Sky Falls, I Hope It

~9 min read 1,625 words

【【Fireball Spell】weak and listless: Hungry… this lord is starving…】

【【Earth Shield Spell】also pouting: Master… I’m hungry too, I want to eat…】

Lin Mo’s lip twitched as he replied irritably in his mind:

“Shut up. Every day it’s ‘hungry, hungry, hungry’—am I raising a herd of pigs? There’s plenty to eat at school.”

Hearing this, the spells finally fell reluctantly silent.

BOOM—!!!

The roar of the aircraft drowned out everything around it.

In the sky,

the lead massive command transport aircraft landed on a nearby flat stretch of ground.

The cargo door opened.

A sharp, commanding figure descended the airstairs.

She was a middle-aged woman, clad in a crisp military uniform, her golden stars gleaming brilliantly under the sunlight.

Her short, efficient haircut and every movement radiated authority and martial ferocity.

Behind her, several aides followed closely.

Seeing this scene, Shen Yifeng froze for a moment.

Isn’t that Zhao Yu, commander of the Metropolis Forces?

This support mission was urgent, but surely not urgent enough to require the Metropolis commander to lead it personally?

At that moment,

Han Mengqing nudged her sister beside her and whispered:

“Your mom’s here.”

“I’ve got eyes.”

Han Mengyao replied coldly.

Hearing the sisters’ words, Lin Mo raised his eyebrows slightly.

Mom?

Commander of Metropolis?

Looks like these two have some serious background.

Shen Yifeng quickly straightened his attire and hurried forward with Lin Mo and the others.

“Comrade Commander!”

Although Shen Yifeng belonged to the Railway Security System and was not directly under Zhao Yu’s command,

he still owed full respect to a military leader of this rank.

Zhao Yu returned a standard military salute.

Then her gaze fell on Han Mengyao and Han Mengqing. “Are you both alright? Any limbs missing?”

Han Mengqing switched to a sweet, obedient expression, clinging to Zhao Yu’s arm and whining:

“Oh Mom! Why did you come yourself? What could possibly happen to us? We’re perfectly fine!”

“Thanks to Captain Shen and Student Lin Mo, all those monsters were wiped out!”

Han Mengyao stepped forward and said calmly:

“Mom, we’re fine.”

After confirming her two daughters were completely unharmed, Zhao Yu’s tense nerves eased slightly.

Then she turned her gaze to the maglev train—slightly damaged but otherwise intact—and a flicker of confusion crossed her eyes.

She knew better than anyone what a “War Giant” meant.

With Shen Yifeng’s strength, preserving half the train’s passengers would’ve been a miracle.

Yet now…

The casualties among the train crew appeared minimal.

When did Shen Yifeng become this strong?

At that moment, Shen Yifeng stepped forward and saluted:

“Comrade Commander! Captain Shen Yifeng, commander of the Aurora Train Security Unit, reporting!”

Zhao Yu returned a standard military salute. “Captain Shen, you’ve worked hard. What’s the full situation?”

Shen Yifeng took a deep breath and began his report:

“Commander Zhao, our complete victory this time was entirely thanks to Student Lin Mo of the Dragon Order Class.”

“Student Lin Mo single-handedly cleared multiple waves of beast hordes, annihilated the War Giant’s elite guard, and ultimately assisted us in killing the boss.”

Saying this, Shen Yifeng sighed:

“Commander Zhao, Student Lin Mo is a rare master of fire, earth, and lightning—three elements. Without him, the outcome would’ve been catastrophic…”

Hearing this, Zhao Yu’s pupils contracted sharply.

Three-element mastery?

Cleared multiple beast hordes? Destroyed the elite guard of that elite monster?

Zhao Yu had no reason to believe Shen Yifeng was lying.

A soldier would never lie about something like this—he dared not, especially with so many witnesses.

Lin Mo…

Zhao Yu looked at the calm-faced boy.

She knew Lin Mo.

The son of that old bastard Lin Tianhao.

Ever since his son entered the Dragon Order Class, he’d made sure the entire military system knew about it.

Zhao Yu had also reviewed the roster of this year’s Dragon Order Class in advance.

Lin Mo was ranked number one.

A number one student being extraordinary wasn’t surprising.

But at this age, this level, three-element mastery—and one of them lightning?

Thinking it through, it was still absurd.

“Student Lin Mo.”

Zhao Yu nodded slightly to Lin Mo, her tone now carrying genuine gratitude:

“I’m Zhao Yu, Commander of the Metropolis Garrison, and these two girls’ mother.”

“Thank you for stepping in—you saved the passengers on the train, and my daughters.”

“I owe you this debt, Zhao Yu will remember it.”

Lin Mo smiled:

“Commander Zhao, you’re too kind. I was just one of the passengers—doing what I had to do.”

“Besides, we’re all classmates in the Dragon Order Class. Helping each other is only natural.”

Watching this composed, unruffled boy, Zhao Yu’s admiration deepened.

Neither arrogant nor flustered—excellent temperament.

Zhao Yu checked the time:

“You still need to report to the Dragon Order Class. Take my plane—I’ll personally escort you to the Capital.”

Lin Mo didn’t refuse, nodding in agreement:

“Then I’m in your debt, Commander Zhao.”

A few minutes later.

The massive command aircraft slowly ascended, roaring toward the Capital.

On the ground,

Xiao Liu tilted his head up, unable to help exclaiming:

“Wow, the Commander personally escorting students to school…”

“If I’d had that kind of treatment back then, I’d brag about it for life!”

Shen Yifeng slapped him on the back of the head and scolded with a laugh:

“Stop dreaming! That’s what they deserve! If you had that kind of ability, I’d carry you to the Capital myself!”

Ten thousand meters above ground.

The interior of the command aircraft was extremely spacious.

A massive holographic map projected in the center, while several staff officers worked busily.

Lin Mo sat alone in the lounge, gazing out at the sea of clouds, his mind relaxing slightly.

The Han sisters and Chu Lingxuan were napping in another rest area—they’d been drained by the earlier battle.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Steady footsteps approached.

Lin Mo turned to see Zhao Yu walking over, holding two steaming cups of coffee.

He instinctively rose to his feet.

“Sit. Don’t be formal. This isn’t a military base.”

Zhao Yu waved his hand and casually set a cup of coffee in front of him. “Try it—special beans supplied to the military zone, unavailable outside. Great for staying alert.”

“Thank you, Commander Zhao.”

Lin Mo took the coffee; its rich aroma surged into his nose.

Zhao Yu sat down across from Lin Mo, gazing deeply at the boy before him.

“In the past, I heard your father mention you many times.”

Lin Mo paused his motion and smiled bitterly.

“Old Lin? He must’ve said something bad, right? Something about me being lazy, a deadbeat, and having no ambition?”

“Pretty much.”

Zhao Yu’s lips curled slightly. “He said you only wanted to be a rich second-generation heir who lives to eat and wait for death, with your greatest dream being to lie flat and spend money.”

“So when I saw today’s situation—and then saw you in person—I was surprised.”

“Someone who only wants to lie flat wouldn’t step forward when faced with such desperation.”

Lin Mo took a sip of coffee—bitter, yet with a lingering sweetness.

He looked out the window at the clouds, silent for a moment. “People change, Commander Zhao.”

Zhao Yu nodded, watching Lin Mo.

“Lin Mo, since you got into that class, do you know what the words ‘Dragon Sequence Class’ truly mean?”

“Privilege? Resources? Status?”

Lin Mo asked in return.

“Not entirely.”

Zhao Yu shook his head, his voice turning serious.

“Dragon Sequence means ‘Dragon’s Order.’ It represents the nation’s highest combat reserve—the backbone of this country.”

“With such high status comes the duty to be the first to stand firm when disaster strikes.”

Zhao Yu paused, then continued.

“I originally thought you entered the Dragon Sequence Class just for the privileges. But your performance today tells me you’ve already made your peace with it.”

Lin Mo stared at the dark coffee in his cup.

Once, he truly only wanted to be a happy deadbeat.

After all, his family had wealth and power; if the sky fell, someone taller would hold it up.

But…

Ever since his skills became sentient, everything changed.

He realized he would very likely one day wield power capable of overturning the rules.

The world was not peaceful.

The abyss watched. Demons stirred.

Beast surges like today’s could erupt in any city at any moment.

If he didn’t grow stronger, when true catastrophe came, his family’s money couldn’t buy his life, and his father’s power couldn’t stop destruction.

“Commander Zhao, I’m still pretty lazy.”

Lin Mo lifted his head, his eyes clear.

“If I could, I’d wish for world peace and to sleep all day at home.”

“But I understand one truth: when the nest is overturned, no egg remains whole.”

“Since I have this ability, and since I stand here, someone must do these things.”

“If the sky truly falls, I hope… I’ll be the one tall enough to hold it up.”

Zhao Yu stared at Lin Mo, stunned.

The boy’s tone was calm—no grand vows, no Rexue slogans.

Yet it was precisely this quiet realization that moved the heart most deeply.

Long silence.

Zhao Yu stood, a relieved smile on his face.

She clapped Lin Mo’s shoulder—this time, with greater force.

“Good.”

“With those words, I’m at ease.”

“It seems Lin Tianhao, that big brute, did the one right thing in his life: fathered you.”

“Rest now. In less than an hour, we’ll reach the capital.”

With that, Zhao Yu turned and left.

Watching Zhao Yu’s retreating back, Lin Mo leaned back in his chair.

He activated his inventory panel.

【Thunderfire Divine Temple Scroll: Key to the Ancient Thunderfire Divine Temple. Level Restriction: Lv.20–Lv.25】

Thunder and Fire dual-element combo technique…

That was a true heavy weapon.

First, report to school. Then, find a chance to enter the dungeon.
