Chapter 445

~9 min read 1,603 words

While watching Cao Zhenqingren fall, Damon Linzi stared blankly at the Darkwizard walking out, not knowing how to react; the memories in her mind were like continuously flowing water, instantly connecting.

"You are the true Darkwizard." Damon Linzi murmured; all of this could now be explained.

Darkwizard instantly split into two people in her mind; the doubts she had vaguely felt but completely ignored were now like bubbles under the sea, constantly bursting.

Why would a Darkwizard who hides so deeply that no one has seen his true form openly transform on the street? Why would he step forward immediately to defeat the Phantoms when they appear? Why, when surrounded by everyone, does he not use any offensive magic but focus on defense? Why, even when completely surrounded, does he not use those powerful magics but constantly restrain himself?

If he is not actually Darkwizard but merely a good person who looks exactly like him, then many things could be reasonably explained.

The only thing they share is that face; their inner selves are completely different.

"I never imagined I'd even mistake a criminal; I've really lost face as a trainee police officer." Damon Linzi sprang up from the ground and stood directly between Cao Zhenqingren and the purple wizard.

The purple wizard looked at Damon Linzi before him and felt something strangely odd—how could this woman have the nerve to intervene in his battle with another version of himself? She was merely a random passerby he had picked to threaten Cao Zhenqingren; how dare she?

"Darkwizard, I will definitely capture you back!" Damon Linzi instantly transformed into a mass-produced mage.

Under his mask, the purple wizard raised an eyebrow at Damon Linzi and suddenly asked strangely, "Are you really a police officer?"

"Of course, although I'm just a trainee, I am indeed a police officer." Damon Linzi slightly bent her knees, aiming her left-hand claw at the purple wizard; as she made an attacking motion toward the purple wizard, she said to Cao Zhenqingren, "Sorry, it was my mistake to mistake you for Darkwizard and lead everyone to attack you. After I capture Darkwizard, I will apologize to you, and I will agree to any request."

"Hahaha, you two actually have such a relationship!"

Cao Zhenqingren, lying on the ground in pain, hadn't even had a chance to answer when the purple wizard suddenly covered his face and burst into wild laughter.

Who would have thought that a randomly selected passerby actually had such a relationship with Cao Zhenqingren? A rookie female police officer had considered him a bad guy and was preparing to arrest him, but just now he was risking his life to protect that female officer.

Now, looking back, Cao Zhenqingren's anxious gaze and actions clearly told him that the two knew each other.

He knew all too well the psychology of his other self; this female officer was absolutely not ordinary in Cao Zhenqingren's heart, or perhaps not in this world but the outside world, where there should be a woman who looks exactly like him, which is why Cao Zhenqingren was desperately trying to protect her just now—something an ordinary stranger would not do.

But regardless of which world, usefulness is enough; for his former self, the purple wizard clearly knows he does not easily fall into despair—only when encountering a truly shattered spirit does he fall into pain.

And now, since this female officer's relationship with his other self is not ordinary, isn't the source of this pain right before his eyes? So he truly wants to shout aloud in joy.

Because another desperate version of himself is about to be born; the foundation of fusion magic requires two identical people from different worlds.

He might not be able to instantly boost his power to the peak of a mage in one breath, but increasing it severalfold should still be possible.

What's more ridiculous is that the trainee female officer in front of him holds a magic ring, and he has a pile of them—those are his spoils of war; over time, some people will secretly do small things behind the scenes, and that's when he needs to clean up.

And without exception, these people use those mass-produced rings that cannot enhance any magic at all—weak little rings.

Compared to him, the combat power of such mages is rather weak; killing them feels like nothing.

So running into such a weak trainee female officer now is simply heaven-sent, with timing, location, and people all on his side.

Then, now he only has one last thing left to do.

"What do you want to do?" Damon Linzi looked at the purple wizard laughing wildly; under his unrestrained gaze she trembled, she fearfully looked at the infamous wanted criminal before her, her body shaking uncontrollably.

That powerful magic and that greedy gaze finally made Damon Linzi realize the gap in strength; previously, her battles with the police department were against magic-drained, pitifully weak phantoms, but once she faced a true mage who kills without blinking, the deliberately separated gap became obvious. "What do I want to do? Of course I want to plunge you into endless despair!" The purple wizard waved the blade in his hand and slashed directly at Damon Linzi.

The strong impact, accompanied by a fierce attack, slammed Damon Linzi hard against the wall; not finished, two sword lights made of purple flames fiercely bombarded her, sparks exploding instantly across her body, and at the same time the purple wizard grabbed her neck, gave a hard swipe, and threw her straight onto Cao Zhenqingren.

After just two moves, Damon Linzi's yellow-brown magic robe instantly turned into magic fragments; a few minutes ago she had been full of confidence wanting to arrest Darkwizard, but now she doesn't even have a chance to resist.

Damon Linzi painfully clutched her neck, covered in red marks from being pinched; she curled up on the ground, her once clean and neat uniform now torn to shreds, and even so the purple wizard had no intention of letting her go, instead gripping his sword as if wanting to poke several holes in her body.

"Stop!" Cao Zhenqingren shouted, clenching his teeth as he crawled up from the ground.

"Finally speaking up? I thought you'd just watch this female officer die." The purple wizard halted his attack.

"How about it, do you feel helpless now? You're too weak; you have no right to be anyone's hope—only despair. If it weren't for you, this pretty female officer might not have gotten into trouble." The purple wizard said with meaning.

Despair is an emotion; regardless of whether the logic is right, as long as the person involved agrees, this painful feeling will fill their heart, so sometimes it's enough to guide them to think negatively rather than argue logic.

"Your magic power is already exhausted, your body is covered in wounds, and you can only helplessly watch the person you wanted to save be killed by another version of yourself, so there's no need to persist." The purple wizard looked at Cao Zhenqingren and said, "Give in to despair; as long as you give up, everything will improve—just give up this police lady and you'll survive, but if you insist on being yourself, the situation will be the opposite."

"No! I will never give up hope." Cao Zhenqingren had no strength left to stand; he merely struggled to crawl up from the ground and lean against the wall, but even so he did not retreat, because doing so would not be him.

"Since you don't want to give up your hope, then unfortunately, this police lady's future hope is thus ruined by you."

In the midst of Cao Zhenqingren's angry, rescue‑intent gaze, the purple wizard directly swung his sword at Damon Linzi's neck—this was the most convenient method, for beheading means certain death.

The more you want to save someone, the stronger the regret feels when the person you tried to save dies before your eyes.

"Stop!"

Cao Zhenqingren didn't know where the strength came from; he rushed forward just as the blade was about to touch Damon Linzi's skin, reaching the purple wizard and grabbing his wrist.

"Such speed—how is that possible? You should have no magic left." The purple wizard stared in astonishment at Cao Zhenqingren, who seemed to have teleported over.

But before he could figure it out, Cao Zhenqingren clenched his five fingers together and threw a furious punch; at the instant he swung his fist, a crystal with rainbow‑like light accompanied the punch and slammed hard into the purple wizard's chest.

"Boom!"

At the same time, a earth‑shaking dragon roar suddenly rang out across the heavens.

The purple wizard's body was instantly blown away by that punch; the purple gems all over his body emitted sounds on the verge of breaking, and this tremendous force even made him feel fear.

"Whoosh!" Cao Zhenqingren exhaled a few breaths; he felt that his blood‑stained hand seemed to have gained something, he slowly opened his five fingers, and in his palm was a ring emitting a transparent‑crystal‑like magical transformation.

Cao Zhenqingren took a deep breath, as if trying to absorb the world's air, he slipped the ring onto his middle finger, stared at the purple wizard slowly rising from the ground, and shouted loudly, almost like a roar: "Transform!"

A huge crystal white dragon suddenly appeared in the sky; this time, the hope that Cao Zhenqingren had steadfastly upheld responded to him and turned into true power that belonged to him alone.
