Chapter 138: Seafood Noodles

~7 min read 1,271 words

So tired, I feel like my body has been hollowed out…

Lian Ye opened his eyes and immediately felt his body extremely fatigued.

He didn't think much about it, assuming the discomfort was caused by staying too long on the Battlefield.

After all, having spent three months on the Battlefield, fatigue was normal.

After washing up, he left the room.

He saw Qianshou Feijian just stepping out of the room.

Lian Ye saw the other with panda eyes, looking half‑asleep, and couldn't help asking:

"Uncle, you weren't insomnia last night, were you?"

Qianshou Feijian said nothing, only nodded.

It wasn't insomnia at all; he hadn't slept at all.

As for why he didn't sleep, that's a matter of personal privacy…

"Kid, go make breakfast; I'm leaving soon."

Qianshou Feijian, worried that Lian Ye might ask why he didn't sleep, quickly changed the subject.

"Uncle, what dishes do you want for breakfast?" Lian Ye asked.

"Rice, Grilled Fish, miso soup," Qianshou Feijian listed the dishes skillfully.

"No problem." Lian Ye entered the kitchen, tied on an apron, and began making breakfast.

"Miso soup needs kelp sprouts," Qianshou Feijian's voice came from outside, "Also, don't overcook the fish."

"Got it, Uncle." Lian Ye replied loudly.

Last night Qianshou Feijian not only bought milk but also purchased the ingredients needed for today's breakfast.

It seems this old guy had planned ahead…

This breakfast leans toward traditional Japanese style, a bit greasy.

Rice is the staple, often paired with red beans or mixed grains.

Miso soup contains tofu, seafood, and so on.

As a "one soup," it provides protein and a warming effect.

This time Qianshou Feijian specifically requested kelp sprouts, so tofu or seafood aren't needed.

The main dish is Grilled Fish, usually salmon or sea bream.

Lian Ye took out the ingredients Qianshou Feijian bought and saw it was sea bream.

After confirming the ingredients, he began preparing breakfast.

He opened the rice jar, scooped two cups of rice into a clay pot, rinsed it twice with water, then placed it on the stove.

When the water in the copper kettle boiled, he added kombu to soften it, then took out the thawed saury.

The saury had already been cleaned before purchase.

Lian Ye didn't need to spend time processing it…

He blotted it dry with kitchen paper, then fried it in hot oil until both sides turned golden.

On the other side, he blanched spinach, cut it into sections, tossed it with sesame, and took the pickled radish from a jar, placing it on a small plate.

The pickled vegetables are very appetizing, suitable for eating with rice.

Especially when one has no appetite in the morning.

He dissolved the miso in warm water, poured it into the pot that had boiled kombu, stirred, then sprinkled a handful of scallion bits.

Finally he plated the fried saury, arranging the pickled radish and spinach on top.

He ladled the steaming miso soup into a bowl and placed it on the tray.

And so, a simple traditional Japanese breakfast was ready.

Lian Ye then made breakfast for himself, "Just eat something casually."

He poured out all the ingredients Qianshou Feijian bought last night, leaving only sweet shrimp and clams.

Seeing the two ingredients, Lian Ye's eyes lit up, "Let's make seafood noodles!"

He poured water into the clay pot, added kombu to make a broth, and simultaneously soaked the clams in salt water to expel sand.

On the cutting board, he peeled the sweet shrimp and deveined them, sliced nori into thin strips, and soaked the scallops in warm water to rehydrate.

When the water boiled, he removed the kombu, added the noodles until they floated, then rinsed them in cold water and drained.

Rinsing the noodles in cold water not only lowers their temperature to a suitable eating level, but also causes the internal fibers to contract sharply.

In plain terms, it makes the noodles chewier and more elastic.

He started another pot, added oil, sautéed scallion, ginger, and garlic until fragrant, tossed in the clams until they opened, added the noodle broth, scallops, and sweet shrimp, brought it to a boil, then turned off the heat.

In a ceramic bowl he first mixed miso, then ladled in the seafood broth and placed the noodles on top.

Finally he sprinkled shredded nori and scallion bits, and arranged a soft‑boiled egg, halved, on the rim of the bowl.

The rising steam carried the fresh scent of kombu and seafood.

And so, a simple seafood noodle dish was ready.

Lian Ye prepared to take Qianshou Feijian's breakfast out.

Having delayed for so long, the old guy must be getting impatient.

"Uncle, your breakfast is ready."

Qianshou Feijian took the tray and, subconsciously, asked:

"Why only one portion?"

Lian Ye glared at him irritably, "You only bought one sea bream; how could I make two portions?"

Hearing that, Qianshou Feijian finally recalled the matter.

"Sorry, there was only one portion left when I bought it yesterday."

He handed the tray to Lian Ye and said, "This portion, you can eat it."

Obviously, he intended to leave the grilled fish for Lian Ye to eat.

"Never mind, uncle." Lian Ye didn't take the tray and explained, "My breakfast is already ready."

Saying that, he turned and went into the kitchen.

Qianshou Feijian watched Lian Ye's departing figure and couldn't help wondering what his breakfast was.

When Lian Ye came out carrying a bowl of seafood noodles, Qianshou Feijian was stunned.

He looked at his own breakfast, then at Lian Ye's breakfast.

His breakfast was pan‑fried sea bream, miso soup, and pickles, while Lian Ye's breakfast was seafood noodles containing clams, sweet shrimp, and a soft‑boiled egg.

Steam from the seafood noodles swirled between the two of them.

The fresh aroma of the seafood noodles drifted into Qianshou Feijian's nose, making him involuntarily swallow.

"Why didn't you tell me you were making seafood noodles?"

Lian Ye pierced the soft‑boiled egg with chopsticks, and the golden yolk slid down the noodles into the broth.

"Didn't you say you wanted rice and grilled fish? I even asked you specifically…" Lian Ye slurped a mouthful of noodles and said vaguely, "I only started cooking the noodles after I prepared your breakfast."

Slurp slurp—

Qianshou Feijian watched Lian Ye eat the noodles and suddenly felt the grilled sea bream in his hand had lost its aroma.

Had I known it would be like this, I shouldn't have ordered.

Now there's no way Lian Ye will make him a bowl of seafood noodles, right?

Thinking that, Qianshou Feijian wore a look of regret.

From now on, never order dishes again; whatever this kid makes, he'll eat.

Since it has come to this, he'll just have to make do and eat it.

Slurp slurp—

Qianshou Feijian lifted the sea bream with chopsticks, and the crispy skin crackled.

But the sound was drowned out by the slurping of noodles…

He removed the fish bones, mixing the minced fish meat with miso soup into the rice.

Slurp slurp—

Qianshou Feijian's forehead veins bulged as he pretended not to hear the sound and began enjoying the "lavish" breakfast.

He ate quickly, finishing in no time.

Slurp slurp—

Lian Ye's slurping of noodles continued.

Qianshou Feijian's face turned grim as he looked at Lian Ye and said coldly:

"Kid, I want seafood noodles for lunch too!"

"Got it, uncle." Lian Ye replied while slurping noodles.

Upon hearing Lian Ye's agreement, Qianshou Feijian finally left, satisfied.

Hmph, it's just seafood noodles, right?

I can eat it at noon!

ps: I'm starving, I also want to go eat seafood noodles.
