Chapter 1342: The Descent of the Black Rain Ghost Calamity
Boom!
A tremendous roar trembled through every corner of the Boundary River Domain, yet this was not thunder—it was the sound of surging waters.
It was the waters of the Boundary River.
The Boundary River churned violently like a world-destroying dragon, then tore free from the constraints of space, and its vast waters began to pour down upon the Boundary River Domain.
The rainstorm was black as ink, radiating a chilling, terrifying aura.
For along with the black rainstorm came a miasma of malice that swept across the heavens and earth, and countless eerie whispers spread through the Boundary River Domain as the downpour fell.
At this moment, every person in the entire Boundary River Domain was chilled to the bone, countless fears rising in their hearts.
The most terrifying calamity of the Boundary River Domain had descended.
Moreover, this Black Rain Ghost Calamity had arrived early.
In the past, the Black Rain Ghost Calamity only descended after the Boundary River Treasure Domain had ended, but this time, the treasure domain had clearly not yet concluded, and the rain had already come.
And once the Black Rain Ghost Calamity descended, the space of the Boundary River Domain would be sealed shut—neither entry nor exit possible.
Those who had originally planned to make a haul inside the Boundary River Treasure Domain, then exploit the timing to slip out of the Boundary River Domain and evade the calamity, had clearly miscalculated this time.
Especially those who were searching for treasures throughout the Boundary River Domain—they were the unluckiest at this moment, for the Black Rain Ghost Calamity had come too suddenly, and they could only watch helplessly as the black rainstorm blotted out their sight and perception.
Their faces were filled with horror.
For they saw that, as the black rainwater pooled on the ground, twisted figures began to slowly emerge from within.
True Demon Aberrations of all manner of bizarre forms, radiating a vast miasma of malice, coalesced within the black rainstorm.
These True Demon Aberrations were far more terrifying than those of ordinary times, their miasma of malice colder and denser, for all of them had smuggled over from the dark world on the other side of the Boundary River.
And so, shrill and despairing screams rang out across the Boundary River Domain at this moment.
Wooo! Wooo wooo!
In each of the stronghold cities, the most urgent alarm sirens erupted at this moment, and one protective grand formation after another burst forth with surging, tremendous energy fluctuations, transforming into layer upon layer of light barriers to shield the cities.
Every powerful expert within the cities treated it as a dire threat, and one treasure after another that detected the miasma of malice rose continuously, covering every corner of the cities.
At this moment, the Boundary River Domain had entered its greatest crisis, and everyone beneath this black rainstorm was trembling as they prayed that no Aberration Tide would set its sights on their city.
After all, in every Black Rain Ghost Calamity, there was no shortage of cities destroyed beneath the black rain.
And when a city fell, not one in ten of those within would survive.
Outside the Boundary River Treasure Domain.
The four King-level powerhouses Li Li Jingzhe, Qin Jiujie, Zhao Zong, and Zhu Yuan also gazed at this suddenly descended Black Rain Ghost Calamity with solemn expressions.
"Was this Black Rain Ghost Calamity triggered early by that Faceless King of the Underworld?" Divine Tiger King Zhao Zong spoke up.
Qin Jiujie shook his head and said, "How could that be possible? The descent of the Black Rain Ghost Calamity requires stirring the Boundary River—even the four of us working together cannot accomplish that, so how could he possibly do it?"
Li Li Jingzhe was silent for several breaths, then said, "The Faceless King of the Underworld indeed cannot do it, but that does not mean the Guiyi Society cannot."
"Their scheming within the Boundary River Domain was so covert that even we failed to detect it. This shows they must have long since laid out a plan, and within it, triggering the early descent of the Black Rain Ghost Calamity is hardly something inconceivable."
"The moment I detected the Faceless King of the Underworld, the Black Rain Ghost Calamity descended. If there is no connection between the two, that would be far too self-deceiving. I think he feared that if the news leaked, our four great Heavenly King lineages would send more King-level powerhouses, and then their scheme would fall apart."
White Elephant King Zhu Yuan's face darkened as he said, "Once the Black Rain Ghost Calamity descends, the Boundary River Domain will be sealed. At this moment, news cannot get out, and the reinforcements from our four great Heavenly King lineages cannot enter either."
Divine Tiger King Zhao Zong frowned and said, "There's no need to worry too much. With the four of us holding the line, let alone that Faceless King of the Underworld—even if one of the top three Great Underworld Kings came, we would not fear him. Once the duration of the Black Rain Ghost Calamity passes, reinforcements from our respective Heavenly King lineages will naturally arrive, and this Ghost Calamity will be considered weathered through."
Zhu Yuan also nodded and said with a serious expression, "The situation is unclear at present. We must set aside past grievances and cooperate wholeheartedly in order to overcome this difficulty."
His words were clearly directed at Li Li Jingzhe and Qin Jiujie.
Li Li Jingzhe said indifferently, "As long as no one plays any tricks in the shadows, I will naturally prioritize the greater good."
Qin Jiujie snorted coldly and said with bland indifference, "Then let us hope that the Li Jingzhe lineage leader can turn the tide."
"Next, we will each hold down our own quadrant. If we spot the appearance of an Aberration King, we can send a signal and join forces to cut it down as quickly as possible." Zhu Yuan nodded. He gazed at the black rainstorm sweeping across the entire Boundary River Domain, heaved a sigh, and his voice carried through the rain.
"Let us hope that no 'Aberration Demon King' appears in this Black Rain Ghost Calamity."
A Demon King was, at the very least, of the Three-Crown King realm.
If an Aberration Demon King of this level appeared, then even if they joined forces, they would pay an enormous price.
Fortunately, generally speaking, King-level Aberrations were certain to appear in a Black Rain Ghost Calamity, but a Demon King comparable to a Three-Crown King was exceedingly rare. Across the many Black Rain Ghost Calamities of these past several hundred years, instances of a Demon King crossing the river to descend could be counted on one hand.
Li Li Jingzhe, however, cast his gaze toward the Boundary River Treasure Domain. Because of the existence of the "Jin Fu," he was unable to see through to what was happening within, but he had a premonition: since the Guiyi Society had such deep schemes within the Boundary River Domain, then the Boundary River Treasure Domain must certainly be an extremely important part of it.
"Li Luo, you all must be careful."
A flicker of worry passed through the depths of Li Li Jingzhe's eyes.
Then, four figures vanished into the void, each returning to their respective Heavenly King lineage's territory to hold the line against the Black Rain Ghost Calamity.
Outside the Boundary River Treasure Domain, calm returned once more—only the black-as-ink rainstorm poured down, shrouding the entire world.
As the rainwater pooled, countless twisted Aberrations slowly emerged, then moved off with strange, lurching steps and vanished beneath the curtain of rain.
And in a withered grove outside the Boundary River Treasure Domain, a tiny black shadow shot out like a flash of lightning. It faced the black rainstorm head-on, gazing toward the distant Treasure Domain.
It was a small pitch-black snake, and within its serpentine pupils, a glimmer of spiritual light swirled.
It bathed in the cold black rain, and those raindrops that struck terror into the hearts of many powerful experts, when they fell upon its body, instead brought a trace of comfort to its serpentine pupils.
It liked this kind of environment.
Strange Aberrations kept emerging all around, but they paid no heed to the little black snake, for the same miasma of malice churned upon its body as well.
Those Aberrations surged past it, seemingly carrying cheerful, playful laughter as they gradually drifted away.
The little black snake paid them no mind, but instead continued to transform into a streak of black light that pierced through the rain, then plunged without hesitation into the Boundary River Treasure Domain, swiftly vanishing from sight.
The sound of the rain grew ever more violent.
The black rain descended, and ten thousand ghosts roamed the night.
