Chapter 158: A Hard Life

The next morning.

When Li Luo reached the second floor, he saw Student Xin Fu still painting intently on the balcony. He recalled how this guy had locked the door from the outside last night, and immediately walked over with a dark expression.

This guy looks like a dull melon, but he's actually a rotten one.

He walked up beside Student Xin Fu, preparing to stand on the moral high ground and lecture him, when he suddenly noticed that the canvas wasn't a painting of little chicks at all, but a scene resembling a refining room.

In that scene, there were two figures sketched out with rough lines. Li Luo stared at these two figures for a long while, his face showing deep thought.

While Li Luo was pondering, Student Xin Fu said happily, "Captain, how's this painting of mine? I got the inspiration from you and Bai Bai Mengmeng in the refining room last night. I'm calling it 'Sprout'."

Li Luo stared at the canvas in shock, as if struck by a bolt from a clear sky. Holy crap, that's enough! You locked me out last night, fine, but now you have to paint it too?!

And you even named it 'Sprout' — do you believe I'll knock every tooth out of your mouth?!

And most importantly, just how bad is your painting? These two figures made of lines — you're telling me that's me and Bai Bai Mengmeng?

Who could even tell?!

Although he couldn't tell, Li Luo felt this kind of perverse trend couldn't be encouraged. So he patted Student Xin Fu's shoulder and said, "Classmate Xin Fu, it seems during today's training, I'll need to have a proper sparring session with you."

Student Xin Fu hesitated slightly and said, "If the captain wants to spar, I wouldn't dare refuse. But the moment I get hit, I start talking nonsense. I'm afraid I might run off to find Bai Bai Doudou and tell her you and Bai Bai Mengmeng spent the night in the refining room."

Li Luo's eyes went wide as he pointed at Student Xin Fu. He really couldn't tell — this quiet guy usually doesn't seem to have much presence, but he's a ruthless one too.

Although he hadn't actually spent the night in the refining room with Bai Bai Mengmeng last night, a man and a woman alone together had indeed stayed a bit too long. If that sister-obsessed demon Bai Bai Doudou found out, she'd surely get emotional and cause some trouble, and then his head would swell two sizes bigger.

This Xin Fu struck right at the vital point in one blow — truly worthy material for an assassin.

But backing down wasn't Li Luo's style, so he immediately said, "It seems I'll need to have Bai Mengmeng cover your three meals a day from now on."

The brush in Student Xin Fu's hand froze. He stared at Li Luo in shock, truly unable to imagine how he could come up with such a vicious method.

Student Xin Fu's expression grew complicated. After a long moment, he finally said heavily, "Fine, captain, you win."

"I'll go wipe this painting away later!"

Li Luo smiled with satisfaction, threw an arm around Student Xin Fu's shoulders, and headed downstairs: "No rush, let's eat first."

Going downstairs, he saw Bai Bai Mengmeng busy as expected. The girl's slender, petite figure, elegant as a butterfly, was a pleasure just to watch.

But Li Luo and Student Xin Fu exchanged a glance, sighed softly, and sat down at the table with a sense of resignation.

Bai Bai Mengmeng's eyes curved into crescents as she smiled at the two of them, then brought out two breakfasts. The two took a look and were somewhat surprised, because this clearly wasn't made by Bai Bai Mengmeng.

"I just bought these from the academy cafeteria," Bai Bai Mengmeng explained, seeing their confusion.

"As for the meals I made, since I don't even know what they taste like, I figured you probably wouldn't like them much either," Bai Bai Mengmeng said softly.

Seeing the girl like this, Li Luo and Student Xin Fu immediately felt a pang of guilt, quickly shook their heads, and comforted her: "Bai Mengmeng, we both really like the breakfasts you make."

"Really?" Surprise appeared on Bai Bai Mengmeng's little face.

Li Luo and Student Xin Fu smiled and nodded.

But soon they couldn't smile anymore, because Bai Bai Mengmeng immediately took out two breakfasts she'd already prepared from the kitchen and said, "If you like them, I've prepared some for you too."

Li Luo and Student Xin Fu stared at the breakfasts on the table being quickly swapped out, fell silent for several breaths, and for a moment had the urge to slap themselves — why did their mouths have to be so cheap?

This hellish life was just about to end, and now their own words dragged it back?

Student Xin Fu sighed softly, and in a voice only the two of them could hear, whispered: "I'll strangle the life out of you."

It was unclear exactly who he was cursing.

Li Luo shook his head. I knew life was hard, but damn, I didn't expect it to be this hard.

The two said nothing, bowed their heads, and began eating.

They hadn't eaten long before a knock at the door broke the heavy dining atmosphere.

Bai Bai Mengmeng ran to open the door, then a surprised voice came. Li Luo looked over and saw two figures standing at the doorway. He was also somewhat startled, because those two were actually Seeing Yu Lang and Lv Qing'er.

Seeing Yu Lang's face immediately piled with smiles when he saw Bai Bai Mengmeng open the door. Lv Qing'er wore a faint smile, her gaze appraising the pure, adorable girl before her with a meaningful look.

"Good morning, I'm Seeing Yu Lang, Li Luo's sworn brother, close friend." Seeing Yu Lang extended his hand to Bai Bai Mengmeng, introducing himself.

"I'm Lv Qing'er, we're all Li Luo's friends, came to see him." Lv Qing'er gave Bai Bai Mengmeng a faint smile and also extended a slender little hand covered by an ice silkworm silk glove.

Bai Bai Mengmeng hurriedly reached out and shook Lv Qing'er's hand, saying softly, "Sister Qing'er, your hand is so pretty."

Lv Qing'er's gaze flickered slightly. This Bai Bai Mengmeng really was too pure and cute — that pitiable look was simply a soul-stealing blade for many men.

"Bai Mengmeng, what about me?" Seeing Yu Lang waved his hand, hoping for a handshake from Bai Bai Mengmeng.

Bai Bai Mengmeng glanced at him and said softly, "I know you. Sister told me not to have any contact with you, or I'll catch some terrible disease."

Seeing Yu Lang nearly spat out a mouthful of blood. Bai Bai Doudou, what on earth have you been saying about me behind my back!

"Come in, both of you." Li Luo's voice came from behind. Bai Bai Mengmeng quickly welcomed both of them in.

Lv Qing'er and Seeing Yu Lang entered and saw Li Luo and Student Xin Fu eating. Seeing Yu Lang let out a strange cry and said indignantly, "This breakfast wouldn't happen to be made by Bai Mengmeng, would it?!"

Li Luo and Student Xin Fu nodded calmly.

Seeing Yu Lang's eyes turned red with jealousy. He immediately plopped down beside Li Luo, snatched the utensils, and shouted, "I want to try Bai Mengmeng's breakfast too!"

One mouthful of food went in.

The noisy atmosphere seemed to suddenly freeze for several breaths.

Gulp.

The excitement on Seeing Yu Lang's face faded at a speed visible to the naked eye. He swallowed the food in his mouth with great difficulty, put the utensils back, pointed at Li Luo, and laughed: "Almost forgot, I actually ate breakfast before coming."

Li Luo said flatly, "No problem, eating a few more bites won't kill you."

His gaze at Seeing Yu Lang was full of contempt. That's it? And you want to pursue Bai Bai Mengmeng? Who was it that said earlier they could eat three big bowls of shit?!

Seeing Yu Lang shot Li Luo a look that said "you win," then laughed: "What a pity, Qing'er specially went to buy you breakfast, and yet you've already eaten here."

Li Luo was stunned, looked at Lv Qing'er's hand, and sure enough she was carrying a meal.

Lv Qing'er smiled faintly. Her beautiful, moving face showed no trace of displeasure as she said, "It's fine. After all, this is breakfast Bai Mengmeng made with care, while what I bought from the cafeteria has no appeal at all."

"If no one eats it, I'll toss it into the lake later to feed the fish."

Li Luo vaguely sensed something off about the meaning behind her words, but since she'd specifically bought it, it really would be too ungentlemanly to refuse.

So he smiled and said: "It's fine, I've got a big appetite. Give it all to me, I'll eat every last bite."

"Really?" Lü Qing'er's beautiful eyes shimmered with autumn light, and she said with a touch of delight.

Li Luo smiled and nodded, then took the lunch box and started eating right away.

At that moment, Student Xin Fu nearby glanced over silently and said softly: "Captain really is blessed — every day someone brings you breakfast."

Hearing his words, the corner of Li Luo's mouth twitched at once. Little brother, you really are causing me trouble every single moment!
