Chapter 56: Luring

~8 min read 1,455 words

Once Yu Lang and Lian Zhong had made their agreement, he took a bamboo whistle from his bosom and placed it to his lips; a faint, sharp sound immediately spread through the mist.

Upon hearing this sound, Zhao Kuo began to struggle wildly, and the four students from Dongyuan Academy beside him hurriedly pressed him down firmly.

Unable to break free, Zhao Kuo’s face flushed red, his eyes welled with tears, and the way he gritted his teeth while looking at Yu Lang made it seem as if he wished to tear him limb from limb.

Seeing this reaction from Zhao Kuo, Lian Zhong, who had originally been somewhat suspicious of Yu Lang, finally relaxed a little, and his disdain for Yu Lang grew even deeper.

This guy really had no backbone at all.

But that was fine; right now, he needed this kind of spineless person.

"Let's go, move forward slowly."

Lian Zhong gave the order, and Yu Lang began to pace forward.

Somewhere in the mist, Li Luo, who had been quietly waiting for the fog to gradually dissipate, suddenly opened his half-closed eyes.

He heard some whistling.

Li Luo’s brows furrowed slightly, and he immediately pressed his fingers against the tree trunk beside him, tapping lightly in rhythm with the whistle.

A moment later, he muttered to himself: "Five people? It must be the group Lian Zhong brought. How did these two guys get so unlucky?"

When they had teamed up to fish earlier, Li Luo had made some preparations with Zhao Kuo and Yu Lang; one of them was using this whistle to convey simple information.

According to their agreement, if such a situation occurred, the person who wasn't captured had to find a way to rescue the others, or if the opponent was too strong, they should try their best to find some classmates from Southwind Academy for help.

"Lian Zhong..."

Li Luo curled his lip slightly, his palms brushing the hilts of the twin blades at his waist, a hint of coldness appearing in his eyes.

"I let you run away before, do you really think I can't deal with you?"

Li Luo turned around and walked toward the direction of the whistle without hesitation; soon, his figure disappeared into the mist.

In the mist, several figures moved forward slowly.

Lian Zhong held Yu Lang hostage in the lead, while the four students from Dongyuan Academy behind them sandwiched Zhao Kuo.

The whistling continued to spread.

Lian Zhong frowned and said, "Why is there no response yet?"

Yu Lang said helplessly, "The mist is so thick, maybe Li Luo ran far away just now?"

Lian Zhong said impatiently, "Hurry up, don't waste our time."

Yu Lang hurriedly agreed and blew the whistle forcefully.

But no one noticed that in the rear, the mist was faintly fluctuating, and a pale water-light rippled; then, just as everyone’s attention was focused ahead, a palm reached out from the mist in a ghostly manner, clamped over the last person's mouth, and a fist whistled through the air, smashing into their head and knocking them unconscious with a single blow.

However, the other three from Dongyuan Academy reacted instantly and shouted, "Someone is attacking!"

Lian Zhong’s expression changed, and he turned his head sharply to look behind him; at that very instant, several blue light orbs shot out from the mist.

Bang!

The light orbs exploded, and a blinding, intense light burst forth.

The eyes of those present stung, and they couldn't help but close them.

At this moment, Zhao Kuo, who had closed his eyes at the very first opportunity, rammed into the three people and plunged into the mist.

"Damn it, we've been had!"

Lian Zhong realized he had been tricked, and in a fit of rage, he swung his broadsword down at Yu Lang in front of him.

But the latter pushed off with his feet, the power of the Wind Resonance erupted, and his figure swept out like the wind, just barely avoiding the blade's range.

"Haha, you stupid donkey still want to catch me?"

Yu Lang sneered, then also rushed into the mist and quickly disappeared.

Lian Zhong’s face turned livid, Yellow Resonance Power erupted from his body, and he shot forward; the broadsword in his hand transformed into a fierce blade of light, throwing it like lightning toward the direction where Yu Lang had disappeared.

Clang!

However, in the mist, twin blades emerged with a flash of light, blue radiance bursting from them, colliding directly with Lian Zhong’s blade of light, causing the broadsword to rebound.

Lian Zhong grabbed the hilt, waved the blade, and stared at that spot with a gloomy gaze.

There, in the faint mist, Li Luo stood holding his twin blades, staring at him with a smile; behind him were Zhao Kuo and Yu Lang.

"Good, you dare to play me." Lian Zhong glared fiercely at Yu Lang and Zhao Kuo. At this point, he understood what had happened; although Yu Lang’s whistle had drawn Li Luo in, it had clearly conveyed some information, preventing the latter from blindly rushing into their encirclement and instead allowing him to prepare fully to ambush them.

Yu Lang sighed and said, "Big brother, it’s not that I lied to you, it’s just that he paid more!"

As he spoke, he winked at Lian Zhong, the implication of the hint clear... do you want to pay more?

Lian Zhong’s face turned red with anger, his breathing heavy, his eyes fierce.

"Hey, this guy is as angry as a bull, shall we retreat first? The mist here seems to be clearing." Seeing this, Yu Lang hurriedly said.

Li Luo did not move, but smiled instead: "Why retreat? Such a big fish, it wasn't easy to hook, I can't bear to let it go back."

Yu Lang was startled and said hurriedly, "Are you blind? That guy has the strength of an Eight-Seal, and he has three helpers."

"Those three, leave them to you two, no problem, right?" Li Luo asked.

"You're serious?" Yu Lang’s expression became more solemn.

Li Luo stared at Lian Zhong, nodded slightly, and said, "My patience has been worn thin by him, so I think he should pay a price."

Yu Lang and Zhao Kuo exchanged a look, pondered for a few seconds, and finally nodded.

"Fine, I also want to deal with these bastards." Excitement welled up in Zhao Kuo’s eyes as he grabbed his great axe and swung it twice with a swish.

Opposite them, Lian Zhong saw this scene, and his originally angry face suddenly broke into a laugh.

"You actually aren't running?" he laughed in disbelief.

Li Luo had gone to great lengths to save Zhao Kuo and Yu Lang; it would have been most rational to take advantage of the mist before it fully dissipated to escape, but Lian Zhong did not expect that Li Luo seemed to be planning to look for trouble with him?

Does being handsome mean all his brains were absorbed?

Lian Zhong held his broadsword, waving it lightly, the blade cutting through the air with a swishing sound; he stared at Li Luo, the smile at the corner of his mouth gradually turning ferocious.

"Li Luo, don't think that just because you are some Young Manor Lord, I wouldn't dare to touch you. Losing here will only bring shame to you and House Luolan."

Li Luo smiled: "Don't jump to conclusions, otherwise if you flip your car, wouldn't that be both shameful and a loss of points?"

"Oh? You think you're worthy?"

Lian Zhong sneered, then waved his hand at the three people from Dongyuan Academy behind him: "That Yu Lang and Zhao Kuo, leave them to you; I will deal with this Li Luo first."

The three agreed; they were all Seven-Seal in strength, and three against two, they did not fear the opponent.

"We're going first, take care of yourself. If you find you can't handle it, send a signal, we have to find a chance to retreat." Yu Lang whispered a reminder, then ran toward another direction with Zhao Kuo.

The three opponents immediately followed.

With their departure, only Li Luo and Lian Zhong remained in a standoff.

Lian Zhong held his broadsword, staring at Li Luo with fierce and contemptuous eyes, but this time, he didn't waste any more words; Yellow Resonance Power erupted violently, fully displaying his Eight-Seal strength.

The pressure swept out.

"Li Luo, it's too late for you to regret it now!"

"Watch as I stomp your face into a pulp!"

Amidst his loud laughter, Lian Zhong’s figure shot out, his blade whistling and churning up yellow light as he slashed heavily toward Li Luo.
