Chapter 114: Can you be more serious?

~7 min read 1,332 words

The evening rush hour in Sijiucheng was heavily congested. It wasn't until 7:10 PM that the Hummer reached the bottom of the apartment building. The sky was already pitch black, with a bright moon and sparse stars dotting the darkness.

In the night, the headlights turned on, the emitted light illuminating the flowerbed beneath the apartment building, extending forward to pave a path of light for walking into the building entrance.

Su Ruoyun politely thanked Huo Jingcheng. After speaking, she unbuckled her seatbelt with a crisp and neat motion, raised her fair arm, and was about to open the door to get out.

Huo Jingcheng sat in the driver's seat, his gaze glancing at her nonchalantly, his sharp black eyes narrowing slightly. He was displeased with her "turning around and not recognizing anyone" attitude, his eyes deep and obscure for a moment.

Only to see his long, distinct fingers lift nonchalantly and press the door lock precisely, silently.

Su Ruoyun's attempt to open the door was obstructed. She frowned and raised her hand to pull it again.

Only to hear Huo Jingcheng speak in a flat tone, yet carrying a hint of irrefutable meaning: "Won't you invite me up for a meal?"

Hearing this, Su Ruoyun's movement to open the door paused. She leaned her body back against the seat, turned her head to look over, and saw Huo Jingcheng slanting his eyes, his eyelids slightly lifted, his thick eyelashes casting a shadow, making his expression unclear.

His pitch-black, deep pupils clearly reflected the girl's beautiful face, as well as the pale yellow light filtering in from the streetlamp.

She didn't even think about it and blurted out, "No." The refusal was as crisp and neat as always.

When Su Ruoyun wasn't smiling, her misty, mountain-like brows and eyes were cold and distant, carrying an aura of keeping people at a distance, which was truly somewhat intimidating.

Huo Jingcheng asked, "Why?"

Her eyes flickered, and she gave the answer unhurriedly: "You already have food cooked at home."

Hearing this, Huo Jingcheng sighed imperceptibly, "I've been driving for over an hour, and I sent you back from so far away. If there's no credit, there's at least hard work..."

"Besides, if I drive back now, they will definitely have finished eating long ago, and all that will be left for me are leftovers..."

Huo Jingcheng rambled on; he had his own set of theories.

Su Ruoyun found it annoying and couldn't help but pout. She turned her head toward the window side and secretly rolled her eyes, not wanting to look at him anymore.

From beginning to end, she never gave in, but Huo Jingcheng followed her shamelessly anyway.

He wasn't in a hurry at all. He got out of the car slowly, locked the door, held the key fob in his palm, and while walking leisurely behind Su Ruoyun, keeping a short distance from her, he kept an eye on the surrounding environment.

All the way up in the elevator, Huo Jingcheng followed Su Ruoyun at a distance that was neither too far nor too close.

The main door had a keypad lock. Su Ruoyun glanced to the right as if on guard, only to see Huo Jingcheng with his hands in his pockets, leaning against the wall behind him. Seeing her look at him, he raised an eyebrow.

She withdrew her gaze, lowered her eyes, and tapped her fair, slender fingers on the electronic screen a few times. Accompanied by a crisp electronic prompt, she placed her right hand on the doorknob, making a gesture to push the door open and enter, pretending to have completely ignored the person outside the door.

Just as the door was about to close, a long leg wrapped in crisp suit trousers suddenly stretched forward, and his leather shoe stepped straight onto the threshold, blocking the door from closing.

Immediately after, the door was pushed open from the outside by a force. Su Ruoyun was caught off guard, subconsciously took a step back, and her fingers uncontrollably let go of the doorknob.

Huo Jingcheng stepped inside, and as his long legs entered the room, he hooked and kicked his foot, and the door slammed shut with a loud "bang."

Su Ruoyun: "..."

He turned a blind eye to Su Ruoyun's speechless gaze and even curled his thin lips somewhat "proudly," the corners of his peach-blossom eyes slightly upturned.

Seeing this, Su Ruoyun frowned slightly. Seeing him reach out to turn on the chandelier as if he were at home, she was helpless.

The air was filled with the fragrance of rice and vegetables. She wrinkled her nose and sniffed twice. Su Ruoyun hadn't eaten anything other than a few tea snacks in the deep mansion since noon. Now, nearly seven hours had passed, and she was starving, so she was too lazy to argue with Huo Jingcheng anymore.

The dim yellow light was hazy in the entryway. She bent down, changed into indoor slippers, took out a pair of unopened disposable slippers from the shoe cabinet, threw them in front of Huo Jingcheng, and then turned her head to say to him, "Put them on."

Her tone was cold and indifferent, carrying a hint of depression.

After saying these two words, Su Ruoyun walked quickly into the bedroom, regardless of his reaction.

Inside the bedroom.

Su Ruoyun took off her T-shirt and jeans, threw the clothes into the laundry basket at will, and picked out a set of cotton loungewear to change into. The loose clothing fit her figure, and the fabric was soft and comfortable.

She reached out to take the claw clip from the vanity, gathered her slightly curly long hair behind her head, and twisted it into a loose bun, revealing her smooth neck. Her delicate and beautiful face looked even more refined, like a lush lotus flower blooming in early summer, pure and moving.

Huo Jingcheng changed into the disposable slippers as instructed, shuffled in them, stood in the center of the living room, and scanned the surroundings with sharp eyes.

Suddenly, a white, soft thing, like a "mountain eagle," silently climbed onto his instep. Like him, it grabbed his black suit trousers as if it were at home and wanted to climb up his long legs.

Huo Jingcheng looked down at the "Panda" trying hard to climb up, bent down, and scooped up the kitten with one hand. The "Panda" let out a "meow" and snuggled obediently into his arms, positioning its head in a comfortable posture. He took a few steps back, sat on the sofa, sank into it, and covered the cat's back with his broad palm, his fingertips rubbing slowly, his movements indescribably gentle.

It was much hotter indoors than outdoors, and with Huo Jingcheng holding a round, fat cat with a lot of fur, he felt the heat after a while, and a thin layer of sweat covered his back.

He was never one to wrong himself. His long, bony fingers unbuttoned his shirt one by one, from top to bottom, starting from the collar.

When Su Ruoyun walked into the living room, this was the scene she saw.

Huo Jingcheng was sitting on the goose-down sofa, his whole body leaning against the back of the chair as if he had no bones, wearing a black shirt and suit trousers, his long legs naturally crossed, his aura noble and ascetic. The collar was slightly open, and three or four buttons on his chest were undone, revealing his Adam's apple and distinct collarbones. Looking closely, he had almost exposed his entire set of abdominal muscles.

One large hand rested casually on the sofa armrest, while the other stroked the kitten in his arms, his whole body exuding a leisurely and comfortable aura.

If it was hot, it wasn't enough to wear a shirt like this.

She twisted her brows and said bluntly, "Can you be more serious?"
