Chapter 129

~7 min read 1,312 words

Every step Su Mingyan took felt like it was landing on the tip of Su Ruoyun's heart, making her tremble involuntarily.

Su Ruoyun stopped walking unconsciously, coming to a halt just one step away from Huo Jingcheng.

The two exchanged a glance; for a brief two seconds, their eyes met multiple times.

A faint sound of footsteps came from behind, and Su Ruoyun's back stiffened slightly. Her mood at this moment was no different from when she was a student, reading a novel in class, completely absorbed, only to look up and find the teacher standing right in front of her, smiling with profound meaning.

Su Mingyan walked slowly, stepping on the fragmented light on the road, strolling leisurely; the orange-toned light illuminated his shadow and stretched it out wantonly.

His features were heroic, his deep brows and eyes revealing a hint of nonchalance, yet a trace of sharpness was hidden within his seemingly scattered gaze.

"It's so late, what is Mr. Huo doing here?"

The man's deep voice dissipated into the night wind.

The late-night roadside wind was fierce, biting at the skin. The two luxury cars were like beasts crouching and resting, silently confronting each other in the darkness, with only four headlights shooting out a large expanse of light, leaving the three figures with nowhere to hide.

The two men stood at a distance neither too far nor too close, their gazes meeting briefly for an instant, harboring sharpness and edge.

Like sharp rocks hidden beneath an undercurrent, calm on the surface but concealing sharp edges within, capable of ruthlessly cutting anyone who accidentally stumbled into them into pieces.

And Su Ruoyun was that person who had accidentally stumbled into them.

"I have property here, just here to collect rent." Huo Jingcheng's lips curled slightly, his voice sounding truly nonchalant, as if he were just saying it casually.

"..." Su Ruoyun.

"..." Su Mingyan.

Both siblings were stunned for a moment, not expecting Huo Jingcheng to say such a thing.

Su Ruoyun was extremely helpless; she pulled at the corners of her mouth in speechlessness and rolled her eyes.

He could have at least made up something like "just passing by" to be more credible. Who comes to collect rent in the middle of the night? Isn't it obvious that this is just an excuse, a perfunctory lie?

Thinking of this, she lifted her long lashes, her glistening eyes glaring "dissatisfiedly" at Huo Jingcheng.

Huo Jingcheng just took it as her flirting with him, the smile in his eyes deepening. With one hand in his pocket, his sharp, thin lips curled into a faint smile.

On the other side, Su Mingyan was furrowing his brows, suspecting that Huo Jingcheng was insulting his intelligence. However, he soon realized that it was likely Huo Jingcheng had some "unspeakable" business he didn't want him to know about, which was why he deliberately gave such an absurd reason to brush him off.

Silence and stillness spread infinitely; the night wind blew through the paper bag, making a "rustling" sound.

This sound woke them up. Su Ruoyun regained her senses and bloomed with a smile, bright and vivid. "Then I won't disturb your chat. It's getting late, I'll head up first. Goodnight."

After speaking, she dashed to swipe her card and enter the hallway, leaving only the two men standing where they were.

The two turned around simultaneously, facing the transparent glass door, watching Su Ruoyun jog into the hallway, her long, black, shiny hair fluttering behind her.

Not until her back had completely disappeared into the hallway did Huo Jingcheng turn around unhurriedly, his leather shoes stepping to the left, taking a casual step.

He lifted his eyelids slightly, his overflowing, glistening peach-blossom eyes fixed on the man before him. "About the bidding, it's just a regular development project, Mr. Su shouldn't mind, right?..."

A punchable expression, coupled with annoying smugness, carrying a faint, elusive air of pretentiousness.

Then, Su Mingyan was "angered" away.

Upon hearing this, Su Mingyan smiled lightly, but it didn't reach his eyes, revealing a chilly coldness. He spoke with profound meaning: "Then I hope Mr. Huo can keep smiling like this."

As his words fell, the surroundings fell into a subtle atmosphere, and the two men's gazes suddenly met in mid-air.

The refusal to show weakness in each other's eyes instantly pulled them back to the days of "clashing" yet "colluding" in the past.

Su Mingyan was the first to withdraw from the meeting gazes, his eyes narrowing slightly, his footsteps turning as he walked toward the Maybach.

Watching the Maybach leave, the red light of the taillights flickering in the night, driving past the corner, Huo Jingcheng raised his hand and nimbly fished his phone out of his pocket, the cold light of the screen flickering in his deep eyes.

He lowered his head, his long fingers tapping on the chat area of the screen, sending a message to Su Ruoyun.

Su Ruoyun, having received Huo Jingcheng's message, peeked through the glass door, casting several glances outside. She hadn't gone upstairs yet, having stayed in the elevator lobby the whole time.

Seeing that Su Mingyan was gone, and the Maybach was gone too, she decisively pulled open the glass door and raised her hand, waving to signal Huo Jingcheng.

"Come in quickly."

Immediately, Huo Jingcheng walked over with a casual gait. As he neared, Su Ruoyun, lacking patience, grabbed the suit jacket on his chest and pulled him in.

Huo Jingcheng took a few steps forward, smiling with the look of someone who had gotten his way.

There was surveillance in the elevator, so Su Ruoyun righteously insisted on keeping a distance. The two stood properly, as if they didn't know each other, standing on the left and right in the elevator car.

With a "ding," Su Ruoyun stepped out of the elevator, walked down the hallway, entered her password, and pushed the door open, with Huo Jingcheng following closely behind her.

Once inside, Su Ruoyun was pulled over by Huo Jingcheng, sitting obediently in his arms like a doll, while she held the little cat in her arms.

The two and the cat were like a human pyramid, huddled on the sofa.

Su Ruoyun held the fat cat, bending her knees to let the cat sit between her legs, stroking the little cat's head while saying, "Why were you waiting downstairs instead of coming up?"

Huo Jingcheng said, "I didn't have an access card, couldn't get in."

His large hand also lifted, stroking the cat in her arms.

Su Ruoyun caught a glimpse of this large hand from the corner of her eye and turned halfway to ask, "Have you been waiting long?"

Huo Jingcheng, holding her waist, feigned grievance and tucked his head into the crook of her neck, his warm breath spraying onto her fair side neck, causing her to shrink back.

"Only about three or four hours." His low, hoarse voice was deep.

Seeing his pretense, Su Ruoyun didn't expose him and coaxed him for a good while.

"..."

"Then will you give me an access card?" Huo Jingcheng took the opportunity to make a request, both hands wrapping around her waist, with half of his reach to spare.

"That won't do." Su Ruoyun refused decisively, leaning lazily against Huo Jingcheng's broad chest, their bodies resonating as they spoke.

"..." Huo Jingcheng.

Huo Jingcheng lowered his head, his eyes fixed unblinkingly on her exquisite face. "So, were you just deliberately coaxing me to make me happy?"

Su Ruoyun tugged at his tie, straightening her body slightly, fluttering a few times like a little cat, and answered with a question: "I haven't even asked you yet, does my brother want that place you mentioned the day before yesterday too?"
