Chapter 24: Barma Knight (Two Chapters Released Simultaneously, Please Follow!)

~6 min read 1,151 words

Eric looks at Robin's series of actions, can't help shaking his head, and says helplessly, "Robin, the entrails are too fishy; carrying them is not only troublesome, it also easily attracts other beasts. And Leopard Blood has little practical use; it's enough you bring those, but why bring Leopard Bone back too."

Robin, however, disagrees, smiling as he explains, "There's still a lot of meat on it; it'd be a waste to discard. And this Leopard Bone can really be boiled into a delicious bone soup, nutritious, maybe even helpful for our cultivation."

Lily, after hearing Robin, can't help glancing at the Jumping Goat Bone on the ground, a hint of hesitation flashing in her eyes.

Eric, seeing this, immediately says, "Forget those, just deal with them and toss them outside."

After all, the Jumping Goat Bone, compared to the Shadow Leopard's bone, is inferior in both weight and possible value.

As for the earlier idea of using this cave as a secret base, after last night's discovery they no longer mention it.

After all, no one knows when that mysterious wizard will return; if they happen to be here, it would be a death trap.

Thinking this, everyone quickens their pace of packing, preparing to leave this place of unknowns and danger as soon as possible.

Back at the camp, before they even set the gear down, the four of them dash straight for the Malizi Knight Barracks.

The Malizi Knight has just finished morning training, fresh from a bath, muscles bulging, looks at the panicked four, not caring at all while sitting on a chair.

"What's the hurry so early in the morning?"

Robin says, "Knight Leader, we found a cave while hunting; it seems to be a Wizard Laboratory, and there's a monster of unknown status inside."

The Malizi Knight slightly frowns, his gaze sweeps over the four faces, finally resting on Robin. He slowly stands, his tall frame looking especially imposing in the morning light.

"Wizard Laboratory?" he repeats softly, tone tinged with caution and interest. "Are you sure?"

Robin nods, expression serious, "We don't dare rush in, but the cave does contain some strange runes and devices, and that monster… it seems to be some kind of Failed Product, but we can't approach it."

The Malizi Knight ponders a moment, then grabs the coat hanging on the chair back and puts it on quickly.

"Take me to see it."

The four immediately lead the way, taking the Malizi Knight toward the cave.

Along the way, Robin briefly recounts what they saw outside the cave.

The Malizi Knight listens with furrowed brows, clearly realizing the seriousness.

When they arrive again at the cave entrance, the Malizi Knight stops, carefully observing the surrounding traces.

The entrance shows many man‑made chisel marks, and the vines covering the mouth are not naturally grown.

"Did you enter without encountering danger?" the Malizi Knight asks softly, his gaze heavy. "Places like this are often filled with unknown hazards."

He draws the long sword at his waist, the blade flashing coldly in the sunlight.

Robin explains, "It was already night then; we could only spend the night in the cave and discovered the situation inside."

The Malizi Knight nods, "Lead the way."

Since the four of them are Knight Apprentices and have no problem, there's no reason for a Formal Knight to be in danger alone.

The Malizi Knight's eyes remain fixed on the altered monster inside the Glass Vessel, a complex emotion flickering within them.

He slowly extends his hand, fingertips lightly touching the cold glass, as if recalling something.

"Barma Knight…" he murmurs low, his voice heavy with sorrow. "He was one of the bravest warriors among us; I never expected his corpse to be desecrated like this."

The four of them stand aside, shock and anger filling their hearts.

Though they have never seen the Barma Knight in person, his legend is widely spread throughout the camp.

He was a hero of the last great war, fighting to the last moment to defend the territory, and ultimately vanished on the battlefield.

Unexpectedly, his remains fell into the hands of a Wizard Apprentice and were transformed into this form.

"That Wizard Apprentice… what exactly does he intend?" Robin can't help asking, his voice trembling slightly.

The Malizi Knight withdraws his hand, turns to face the four, expression solemn, "His purpose is clear—using the corpse of a powerful warrior to create an even stronger monster for his own use. The Barma Knight's strength and combat instinct are his ideal experimental material."

"What should we do then?" Eric asks, his tone urgent.

"If that Wizard Apprentice is still nearby, he certainly won't give up this experiment easily."

The Malizi Knight nods, "You're right. Unfortunately it's just a Failed Product, already completely devoid of life force." He pauses, scans the four, voice firm, "Robin, go back to the camp immediately, inform Damia Great Knight Leader of the situation and request reinforcements."

Robin nods, turns without hesitation and runs toward the cave's exit.

The Malizi Knight watches Robin's departing back, inhales deeply, refocuses on the monster in the Glass Vessel. He whispers, "Barma, if you watch over us from the heavens, please protect us, let us capture that evil wizard and give you a dignified rest."

Robin leaves quickly and returns just as fast.

With him arrive not only Damia Great Knight Leader and Fitz Knight, but also a dozen fully armed Knight Apprentices.

The group steps into the cave, eyes immediately drawn to the Barma Knight's corpse, now a monster, inside the Glass Vessel.

The air is filled with an unsettling aura, as if even breathing becomes heavy.

Damia Great Knight Leader stares at the monster in the Glass Vessel, brows knit, a flash of pity and anger in his eyes.

He waves his hand, signaling everyone to step back, then picks up a fist‑sized stone from the ground and hurls it at the Glass Vessel without hesitation.

"Bang—"

The glass shatters instantly, green liquid pours out like a waterfall, splashing onto the ground.

Immediately, a sharp "Sizzle" rings out, the floor corrodes into deep pits, thin white smoke rising.

The air carries a pungent smell that makes one retch.

Everyone draws a cold breath and steps back several paces.

Had anyone been standing by the Glass Vessel earlier, they would now be corroded beyond recognition, flesh and bone reduced to nothing.

More terrifying, the Barma Knight's corpse inside the Glass Vessel begins to dissolve at a visible speed.

Its skin, muscle, and bones seem devoured by an invisible force, leaving only a thin husk that collapses limp on the ground, like a shadow puppet emptied of life.
