Chapter 48: Four Hundred Fifty Pounds

~6 min read 1,140 words

The night fell low, and the silver streets of Winston City reflected two opposing silhouettes.

Dain's face wore a ferocious grin, his voice hoarse and full of provocation: "Robin, you think you can beat me with that broken sword of yours? Today I'll show you what real power is!"

Robin gave no reply, merely lowering his stance slightly, the Tang Sword angled toward the ground, its tip trembling lightly as if a poised poisonous snake.

His breathing was steady and deep, the Earth Dragon Breathing Method silently circulating, the Life Force within him surging like the tide.

"Die!" Dain roared suddenly, the flail in his hand whistling as it slammed down fiercely toward Robin.

The iron chain traced an arc in the air, as if to crush Robin's skull.

Yet Robin's figure vanished the instant the flail fell. His steps were light as wind, as if merged with the ground, instantly flashing to Dain's flank.

The Tang Sword cut a silver arc through the air, heading straight for Dain's neck.

Dain's pupils contracted sharply, and he hurriedly withdrew the flail, trying to block the strike.

However, Robin's sword speed was too fast; the blade flash like lightning, instantly piercing Dain's defense.

Puff!

The blade sliced Dain's neck, blood gushing out. Dain's movement halted abruptly, the flail slipped from his hand and slammed heavily onto the ground.

His eyes filled with incredulous expression, his mouth opened yet no sound emerged, and he finally fell slowly.

Robin sheathed his sword and stood, the blood dripping from the blade glaring sharply in the firelight.

His gaze was cold and calm, as if he had just performed something trivial.

"Waste." a cold voice came from beside him. Robin turned his head and saw Silvan standing not far away, arms crossed over his chest, a mocking smile on his face.

His gaze swept over Dain's corpse, his tone disdainful: "Can't even deal with a knife-wielding waste, how shameful."

Robin's eyes met Silvan's, and invisible sparks seemed to flare in the air.

Silvan is the strongest knight apprentice under the Malizi Knight, and having just advanced to Formal Knight, he is not comparable to a newcomer like Eric.

"Silvan, do you want to try?" Robin's voice was calm, yet carried a hint of provocation.

Silvan sneered, slowly drawing the Short Blade at his waist, its edge shimmering with a cold glow in the firelight: "Just my taste. Let me see how much weight this 'genius' the traitor Malizi favors actually carries."

Before the words finished, Silvan's figure had already vanished from the spot. His speed was extreme, like a black lightning, instantly closing in on Robin.

His dual swords traced a cold flash in the air, heading straight for Robin's throat.

Robin's gaze hardened, the Tang Sword instantly crossed his chest, the blade precisely blocking Silvan's attack.

The sound of metal clashing echoed in the night sky, sparks scattering.

"Good speed, but not enough," Robin said softly, his tone carrying a hint of coldness.

His foot struck suddenly, his form like a phantom circling to Silvan's flank, the Tang Sword wielding a fierce blade wind, slashing straight at Silvan's shoulder.

Silvan's reaction was swift, his dual swords quickly countered, blocking Robin's assault. Yet Robin's sword motion did not cease; the blade turned, instantly cutting Silvan's sleeve, leaving a shallow bloodstain.

Silvan's complexion darkened instantly, a flash of anger in his eyes: "You've also advanced to Formal Knight!"

His offensive suddenly quickened, the dual swords assaulting Robin like a raging storm.

Robin's swordplay flowed like clouds and water, each strike precisely blocking Silvan's attacks.

Their silhouettes intertwined in the firelight, blade flashes and sword shadows, like a deadly dance.

"It's over," Robin said suddenly in a low voice, his tone bearing a hint of resolve.

His Tang Sword flicked sharply, the blade slicing through Silvan's dual swords, scattering them.

Then his form lunged forward abruptly, the blade pointing straight at Silvan's heart.

Silvan's pupils contracted suddenly, he hurried back, but it was already too late.

Robin's blade had already neared his chest, the cold killing intent causing him a choking sensation.

"Puff—" the muffled thud of the sharp blade entering flesh, especially chilling in the dead silence of the night.

Silvan's eyes widened instantly, his expression freezing from arrogance to disbelief; he seemed even in death unable to accept that he had been defeated by Robin.

"You trash even dare to chase the Malizi Knight," Robin gritted his teeth, forcing the words out between his teeth, his voice full of contempt and anger.

He kicked Silvan's corpse aside, blood running down the Tang Sword's edge, dripping onto the ground and staining a dark patch.

The other knight apprentices, who had been bluffing nearby,

At this moment, seeing Silvan collapse like a puppet with its strings cut, fear instantly flooded them like a tide.

They stared at each other, legs trembling uncontrollably, then, without even grabbing weapons, they turned and fled into the darkness at breakneck speed, occasional terrified cries escaping their mouths.

Robin snorted coldly, his gaze like lightning sweeping over the fleeing silhouettes.

He swiftly slapped the Quiver, and the meticulously crafted Pulley Composite Bow whizzed out, landing steadily in his palm.

His movements flowed in one breath, without pause; he reached for three Feather Arrows, deftly nocked them onto the string, drawing the bow like a full moon.

Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh

Three sharp whooshing sounds tore through the night sky.

The three Feather Arrows, like three silver bolts of lightning, shot toward the three fleeing knight apprentices.

The Sharp Arrows left the string, whistling with wind, like three deadly meteors, racing straight after the fleeing apprentices.

In that hair‑raising moment, time seemed to stretch; Robin's gaze locked onto the target, his eyes radiating chilling composure and determination.

Never miss!

The three Feather Arrows hit the three knight apprentices with perfect accuracy; the massive impact hurled them forcefully, tracing three arcs in the air, landing heavily several meters away, kicking up a cloud of dust.

Their bodies twisted, lying motionless on the ground, life or death uncertain.

Robin let out a long sigh, his tense nerves finally easing a bit.

He looked down at the Pulley Composite Bow in his hand, and the originally stern face instantly brightened with a hint of delighted color.

This Pulley Composite Bow had gathered his countless effort and wisdom.

Many parts were forged from sturdy metal, making it heavy and hard to draw; its draw weight reached four hundred fifty pounds, yet this granted it unparalleled power.

Fortunately, Robin cleverly installed four pulleys; with this ingenious design, he only needed to exert a hundred pounds of force to draw it easily.

What does that mean?

It means that the Feather Arrows he now casually shoots all possess astonishing killing power, enough to easily slay those unprepared Knights.
