Chapter 71: Function (Third Update)

~6 min read 1,100 words

Robin put away the Pulley Composite Bow, drew the Great Horse Leather Warrior Steel Tang Sword, and joined the battle.

His swordsmanship was fierce and precise, each slash heading straight for the Rock Armor Earth Dragon's weak point.

The fight lasted almost half an hour, and the Rock Armor Earth Dragon finally fell.

Its body slammed heavily onto the ground, emitting a dull thud.

Robin let out a long breath and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

"Well done, Robin!" Men Luo came over, patted Robin's shoulder, his tone carrying a hint of praise.

Robin smiled faintly, his voice tinged with fatigue: "Everyone worked hard; this is our shared victory."

At that moment, the Third Apprentice Wizard walked over, giving Robin a cold glance.

His gaze held a trace of scrutiny, as if reassessing Robin's worth.

Clearly, Robin's performance in battle surprised him—a knight who mastered Bow Martial Skill, especially one who could precisely hit the Rock Armor Earth Dragon's weak point, was indeed a nemesis to most Wizard Apprentices.

A complex expression flashed across the Wizard Apprentice's eyes, then he asked in a haughty tone, "You performed quite well; are you interested in becoming a follower of my LeiDuoLi Wenna?"

Robin froze for a moment, a look of bewilderment on his face. He almost blurted out, "Are you sick?" but quickly suppressed the retort, calmly replying, "Sorry, I'm not interested in becoming anyone's follower."

Lei Duo Li frowned, his tone edged with displeasure: "Do you know what becoming my follower entails? You'll have access to deeper mysterious knowledge, even more chances to master the Meditation Method. Such an opportunity isn't granted to just anyone."

Robin shook his head, his voice firm: "Thank you for the offer, but I prefer to walk my own path. Whether it's the knight's road or the wizard's road, I'll explore it through my own effort."

Lei Duo Li sneered, his tone dripping with mockery: "Hmph, you naive kid. You think your meager talent can carve a place for you in the wizard's world? How laughable."

Robin gave no rebuttal, only a faint smile: "Perhaps. But at least I won't become anyone's subordinate."

Lei Duo Li's expression darkened instantly, he glared fiercely at Robin, then turned and left, muttering curses under his breath.

Men Luo came over, patted Robin's shoulder, and said with a grin, "Well done, Robin. That guy always looks down on everyone; your words just gave him a taste of his own medicine."

Robin shrugged, his tone tinged with helplessness: "I was just speaking the truth. I don't want to be anyone's sidekick."

Men Luo laughed heartily: "Exactly, we knights are free warriors; we can't just be someone's underling. If the other party were a ringed wizard, maybe that's different."

Robin nodded, but his face was odd—ringed wizard.

A familiar title, seemed like I'd heard it somewhere before, something about taking rings, I forgot.

At that moment, the Mining Area supervisor MaDing walked over, a smile on his face: "Everyone, the mission is complete, good work. Robin, your performance was outstanding; I will report your merits to the lord."

Robin nodded, his voice carrying a hint of modesty: "It's what I should do."

Supervisor MaDing patted Robin's shoulder, his tone laced with praise: "Young man, keep working hard; the future is yours."

Robin smiled and said nothing more.

He quickly opened the System Panel to check the spoils of this battle.

Global Experience jumped by twenty points in one go, which left him very satisfied.

After so much trial, Robin had gradually figured out how to obtain Global Experience—combat is the main source, but the enemy's strength directly determines the amount.

"Last time that blocking Adventurer Squad, I single‑handedly shot five of them and only got ten experience," Robin thought, "and this time encircling the Rock Armor Earth Dragon, even though I was only shooting from the rear, the enemy's power earned me twenty experience."

He glanced at the massive corpse of the Rock Armor Earth Dragon, feeling a bit of regret.

If he could slay that beast alone, he would earn at least two hundred experience points.

But Robin knew well that with his current strength, facing the Rock Armor Earth Dragon alone was tantamount to suicide.

So he decided to keep moving with the main force, shooting from the rear, never charging forward lightly.

Robin and Men Luo went to the Rock Armor Earth Dragon's corpse, preparing to examine the beast closely.

At that moment, the System Panel suddenly popped up a series of prompts, detailing each part of the Rock Armor Earth Dragon's body:

Dragon Skin: can be forged into a rare-quality leather armor, defense extremely high, able to resist most physical attacks.

Dragon Horn: can be crafted into daggers or composite bows, possessing great penetration and magical affinity.

Dragon Claw: can be made into weapons or ornaments, granting a slight armor‑breaking effect.

Dragon Tooth: can be fashioned into arrows or short swords, with exceptional sharpness.

Dragon Blood: residual thin dragon lineage blood, can temper the flesh, boosting body strength and recovery.

Magic Core: located in the abdomen, can aid cultivation, greatly increasing magical affinity and Spiritual Power.

Robin's eyes lingered on the lines for "Magic Core" and "Dragon Blood" for a moment, excitement welling up. He knew those two items would greatly aid his cultivation.

"Men Luo, look at this," Robin pointed at the Rock Armor Earth Dragon's abdomen, "this should be the Magic Core's location."

Men Luo leaned in, nodded: "Exactly, the Magic Core is one of the most precious materials from a magic beast. However, by rule, the Magic Core must be handed to the Mining Area supervisor MaDing, who will submit it to the lord."

Robin frowned, feeling a bit resentful.

If he could get the Magic Core, his cultivation speed would increase dramatically.

But for now, he could only temporarily curb his impulse.

At that moment, the Mining Area supervisor MaDing walked over again, a smile on his face: "Everyone, the mission is complete, good work. Robin, your performance was excellent; I will report your merits to the lord."

Robin nodded, his voice carrying a hint of modesty: "It's what I should do."

Robin stood beside the massive corpse of the Rock Armor Earth Dragon, his fingertips lightly brushing the metallic‑gleaming dragon scales, while the System Panel's prompts flickered before his eyes like fireflies.

He squinted, his gaze drifting over the lines "Magic Core can aid cultivation" and "Thin Dragon Blood Tempering Body" repeatedly, his Adam's apple rolling unconsciously—this was far more tempting than the scrap materials dropped by ordinary beasts.
