Chapter 95: Round Table Council
The Round Table Council, although its purpose is unclear, at least for now it seems they have no intention of harming me.
"If I join you, what can I get?" Robin whispered.
Ao Disi smiled, his tone carrying a hint of confidence: "First, we will protect your safety, ensuring you won't be hunted by the Wizard Council or the Black Wizard Covenant.
Second, we will provide you with resources and guidance to help you quickly increase your strength. Finally, when you complete the mission, we will help clear your grievances and even secure you a place in the Kingdom."
Robin felt a stir; Ao Disi's terms were indeed tempting. Yet he remained cautious and whispered, "So what do you want me to do?"
Ao Disi looked at Robin, a hint of approval flashing in his eyes. He knew Robin was not easily swayed, and that caution and reason were exactly what the Round Table Council needed.
"We need you to complete a mission," Ao Disi whispered, his tone bearing a hint of seriousness, "This mission concerns the Kingdom's future and may even affect the balance of the entire Wizard World."
Robin furrowed his brows, a vague unease rising, "What mission?"
Ao Disi pulled an old, tattered map from his coat and spread it on the ground.
The map marked several important locations, the most prominent being a region in the north labeled "Shadow Mountains".
"The Shadow Mountains are the Black Wizard Covenant's secret base, and also where they forge Soul-Eating Crystals," Ao Disi pointed to the mark on the map, whispering, "According to our intelligence, the Black Wizard Covenant is conducting a dangerous experiment there, attempting to use the power of Soul-Eating Crystals to create a magical weapon capable of controlling Wizards and Knights. If their plan succeeds, the entire Kingdom will fall into chaos."
Robin felt a shock; he hadn't expected the Black Wizard Covenant's ambition to be so vast. He whispered, "Do you want me to destroy this experiment?"
Ao Disi nodded, his tone carrying a hint of expectation, "Exactly. You are the only one who can wield both Knight and Wizard powers."
The core of the Shadow Mountains is shielded by a powerful magical barrier; only someone like you, who possesses both Knight and Wizard abilities, can breach it and destroy their experiment.
Robin fell silent for a moment, weighing the pros and cons in his mind.
The mission is extremely dangerous; the Shadow Mountains are one of the Wizard World's forbidden zones, rumored to be riddled with perilous and unknown magical traps.
He also knows his current situation leaves him no choice. Neither the Wizard Council nor the Black Wizard Covenant will let him go easily.
"If I agree, can you guarantee my safety?" Robin whispered.
Ao Disi solemnly nodded, "In the name of the Round Table Council, I assure you we will do everything to protect your safety. Moreover, we will provide all necessary resources and guidance to help you quickly increase your strength."
Robin inhaled deeply, a resolute glint in his eyes, "Fine, I accept. But you must keep your promise; after the mission, I want a completely new identity."
Ao Disi smiled, his tone confident, "Rest assured, the Round Table Council never breaks its word."
Robin nodded and then asked, "When do we act?"
Ao Disi folded the map and whispered, "No rush; you're still too weak. Tomorrow morning we'll head back to the capital, and tonight you should rest well to recover your strength."
Robin said nothing more, sat on a nearby stone, closed his eyes, and began circulating the Dragon Devouring Breathing Method.
In the deep, quiet night, Robin suddenly opened his eyes and whispered, "Ao Disi, you said earlier that I have something you want. What exactly is it?"
Ao Disi was silent for a moment, then whispered, "It's your potential, Robin. You possess a special power that can simultaneously command Knight and Wizard abilities. This power is exactly what our Round Table Council needs."
Robin felt a shock, not expecting Ao Disi to value his potential. He whispered, "How do you intend to use my potential?"
Ao Disi smiled, his tone tinged with mystery, "It's not time to tell you yet. Rest assured, we won't force you to do anything. Your choice will determine your future."
Robin closed his eyes, continued circulating the Dragon Devouring Breathing Method, trying to calm his inner turbulence.
His current situation is extremely delicate. The Round Table Council appears friendly on the surface, yet their true motives remain unknown.
Ao Disi's words made him realize that he might harbor a power even he himself has never sensed, and that power is exactly what the Round Table Council needs.
"Potential... a special power..." Robin thought to himself, his brows slightly furrowing.
He recalled the various anomalies during his cultivation, especially the tremendous effect of the Dragon Devouring Breathing Method and his ability to simultaneously practice multiple breathing methods.
These all seemed to indicate that he indeed possessed something extraordinary.
Robin did not feel excited; instead, he grew more cautious.
This power could become his aid, but it might also become a burden.
The Round Table Council values his potential, but that does not mean they will help him unconditionally.
On the contrary, they may exploit his power to achieve their own goals.
"I must quickly strengthen myself to seize the initiative in this game," Robin thought, a resolute glint in his eyes.
Early the next morning, Ao Disi led Robin away from the Ashen Wasteland, heading toward the capital.
Along the way, Ao Disi said little, only occasionally reminding Robin to stay aware of his surroundings.
Robin asked nothing further; now was not the time to uncover all the mysteries.
A few days later, they finally arrived at the capital.
The capital's splendor made Robin feel a fleeting daze, the streets bustling with people, vendors' cries rising and falling, as if all danger had drifted away from him.
It was only a façade. Behind the capital lay even more complex power struggles.
Ao Disi brought Robin to a secluded manor, where two plain‑clothed guards stood at the entrance.
Upon seeing Ao Disi, they gave a slight nod and then opened the gate.
"This is a Round Table Council outpost," Ao Disi whispered, "You can rest here for now; we will provide all necessary resources."
Robin nodded, gaining a deeper understanding of the Round Table Council's strength.
The organization's influence was far greater than he had imagined.
After entering the manor, Ao Disi assigned Robin to a spacious room.
The room was fully equipped, even containing a small cultivation chamber.
"Rest here for a few days, and we will assign an Instructor to help you strengthen your abilities," Ao Disi said.
Robin nodded, his heart filled with anticipation for the upcoming cultivation.
