Chapter 99: Inspection

~6 min read 1,165 words

Robin's life in the Wei Er Ke family gradually fell into a normal rhythm, but his vigilance never eased.

The Round Table Council's plan was far from finished, and he was merely a pawn on their board.

While he was secretly investigating the Viscountess's research, a sudden piece of news shattered his brief peace.

One crisp morning, a guard rushed in to report to Viscount Wei Er Ke: "Viscount, members of the Wizard Council have arrived; they demand to search the estate, saying they are pursuing a fugitive."

Viscount Wei Er Ke's face instantly grew solemn; he frowned and asked low, "Wizard Council? On what grounds do they search my lands?"

The guard shook his head, his tone edged with tension: "They say it's a royal order; every domain must cooperate with the search."

Viscount Wei Er Ke was silent for a moment, then nodded: "Let them in, but tell them the search must be under my supervision."

Robin stood aside, and when he heard the news his heart tightened sharply.

The Wizard Council's men were likely coming for him. Although his identity had been altered by the Round Table Council through bloodline transfer, he still dared not be careless.

"Ai Lun, go back to your room and stay inside," Viscount Wei Er Ke whispered to Robin, his voice carrying a hint of concern.

Robin nodded, hurried out of the hall, returned to his own room, and after closing the door his mind still could not settle.

"Why would the Wizard Council suddenly come to search? Have they discovered something?" Robin muttered softly, a trace of anxiety flashing in his eyes.

He must prepare for the worst.

If the Wizard Council discovered his true identity, he would have to flee immediately.

Meanwhile, the Wizard Council's men had already entered the manor. They wore silver‑white robes, staff in hand, expressions cold.

Leading them was a middle‑aged man whose sharp gaze seemed able to pierce everything.

"Viscount Wei Er Ke, we are here by order of the Wizard Council to search for the fugitive," the middle‑aged man said coldly, his tone bearing undeniable authority.

Viscount Wei Er Ke nodded, his voice tinged with displeasure: "I understand your duty, but remember this is the Wei Er Ke family's domain. The search may proceed, but only under my supervision."

The middle‑aged man nodded, then waved his hand, signaling his subordinates to begin the search.

The Wizard Council's men quickly dispersed, commencing a meticulous sweep of the manor.

They used a magic detection device, trying to locate any suspicious Magic Wave.

Robin hid in his room, feeling a powerful Magic Wave emanating from outside.

The Wizard Council's men were employing the magic detection device, attempting to trace his presence.

"Can the bloodline transfer trick their detection?" Robin thought, a cold sweat beading on his forehead.

At that moment, the door suddenly knocked. Robin's heart tightened, and he swiftly gripped his Sword.

"Young Master Ai Lun, the Wizard Council's men request to see you," called the butler from outside.

Robin inhaled deeply, forcing himself to stay calm. He knew he could not show any abnormality, lest suspicion arise.

"Understood, I'll come out right away," Robin whispered, then straightened his clothes and opened the door.

The butler stood outside, his expression a little tense: "Young Master Ai Lun, the Wizard Council's men wish to examine your bloodline."

Robin nodded, but inwardly he let out a sigh of relief.

Since they wanted a specific examination, it meant they were uncertain; they did not have absolute confidence to suspect Robin's identity.

He followed the butler into the hall, where the middle‑aged man of the Wizard Council stood, looking at him coldly.

"Are you Ai Lun Wei Er Ke Wo Er Te?" the middle‑aged man asked softly, a hint of doubt in his tone.

Robin nodded, his voice steady: "Yes, I am Ai Lun."

The middle‑aged man said little else, then drew a Crystal Ball from his coat and whispered an Incantation.

A beam of light rose within the Crystal Ball, then enveloped Robin.

Robin felt a chilling energy flow from the Crystal Ball, as if probing his bloodline.

He held his breath, silently praying that the bloodline transfer would evade the Wizard Council's examination.

After a moment, the middle‑aged man withdrew the Crystal Ball, nodded: "The bloodline is sound, indeed the direct line of Viscount Wei Er Ke."

Hearing this, Viscount Wei Er Ke exhaled a breath of relief, his voice edged with a touch of displeasure: "Now you may leave, then?"

The middle‑aged man nodded, then waved his hand, signaling his men to cease the search.

"Apologies for the disturbance, Viscount Wei Er Ke," the middle‑aged man said coldly, then departed with his subordinates from the manor.

Robin stood by the manor's window, watching the Wizard Council's men depart, yet his heart felt no ease.

Though this search passed without incident, he knew the Wizard Council would never easily give up the hunt for him.

The Soul-Eating Crystal still lay in his System Space, like a timed bomb that could explode his identity at any moment.

"The Soul-Eating Crystal… must be dealt with quickly," Robin muttered, his brows knit.

The Soul-Eating Crystal is the focus of a pact between the Wizard Council and the Black Wizard; as long as it remains in his hands, danger will never be far away.

Disposing of the Soul-Eating Crystal is not an easy task.

Its power is too great; ordinary destruction methods simply cannot work.

More importantly, Robin suspects the Round Table Council is also watching him from the shadows; should he attempt to handle the Crystal, his true intent could be exposed.

"Round Table Council… what exactly are their goals?" Robin thought, a cold glint in his eyes.

The Round Table Council placed him within the Wei Er Ke family through bloodline transfer, not merely to protect him.

Their scheme is evidently far more complex, and the Soul-Eating Crystal and the Viscountess's research are likely key pieces.

That night, Robin slipped out of his room, using the Spirit Snake Breathing Method to heighten his agility and concealment, evading the manor's guards and servants.

He reached the manor's basement, where the Viscountess conducted her research.

The basement entrance was sealed by a heavy iron door engraved with intricate Magic Runes.

Forcing it open would trigger an alarm; he needed another way in.

He retrieved a tiny magical device from his System Space, one he had obtained from the Round Table Council while in the capital.

The device can briefly disrupt the effect of Magic Runes, buying him a few seconds.

Robin affixed the device to the iron door and whispered an Incantation.

The light of the magic rune flickered faintly, then grew dim.

Robin quickly pushed open the iron door and slipped into the basement.

The basement was dimly lit, and a faint scent of herbs lingered in the air.

Robin cautiously made his way through the corridor and arrived at a spacious laboratory.
