Chapter 44: What Does the Original Owner's Birth Have to Do with Me, Uchiha Gin?

~8 min read 1,569 words

After Uchiha Gin finished understanding the situation, he did not linger and left.

Confused, Uchiha Gin tried to piece together the truth from these fragmented clues, but he truly couldn't make sense of anything useful.

After weighing his options, he decided to attend to the work at hand first.

Because he had figured out that the files were categorized by color, organizing them was twice as effective with half the effort, and he soon had the messy scrolls sorted.

Looking at the three piles of differently colored scrolls before him, Uchiha Gin began the next step of classification.

The file scrolls not only needed to be sorted by dungeon, but each prisoner's file also had to be clearly labeled and indexed for precise reference.

After some thought, he decided to start organizing with the cyan scrolls.

"Jinji Shimura: Shimura clan, poisoned the water source of the Uchiha clan grounds, resulting in the poisoning and death of twenty-three Uchiha clansmen; skilled in Wind Release and poisons."

Too despicable; it must be placed on the first level.

"Takinosuke Sarutobi: Sarutobi clan, ambushed an Uchiha clan supply unit, resulting in twelve deaths and five people left permanently disabled; skilled in Fire Release, Earth Release, and Summoning Jutsu."

Too brutal; it must be on the first level.

"Ichino Yamanaka: Yamanaka clan,"

After flipping through quite a few cyan scrolls, Uchiha Gin discovered that most of these prisoners came from families that would become famous in the future.

It seems that even in the Warring States period, the growth of civilian ninjas was still fraught with difficulties, and the outstanding ones were mostly clan ninjas.

The number of cyan scrolls was not large; those who could be thrown into the No. 1 Dungeon were all heinous criminals.

This type of prisoner generally possessed strong strength and could not be easily captured, so there were only a dozen or so.

He quickly finished organizing the cyan scrolls. During this time, Uchiha Gin also checked the capture records, which were basically all from more than six years ago, with no suspicious subjects.

Scratching his curly hair, Uchiha Gin turned his gaze to the blue scrolls and continued organizing, hoping that valuable clues would appear.

Unfortunately, he didn't find any suspicious individuals even halfway through.

Most of the prisoners in the blue scrolls were from small clans or were wandering ninjas; their strength was not considered strong, and their crimes were mostly spying for information or ambushing lone Uchiha clansmen.

After looking through them, he found that the crimes of Tasuke Kaguya were actually the most severe among the blue scrolls, but because of mental issues and an inability to communicate effectively, he had been demoted to the No. 2 Dungeon.

There were many more scrolls in the No. 2 Dungeon than in the No. 1 Dungeon. Uchiha Gin felt his eyes aching and his head swelling after reading only half of them, much like the symptoms of not wanting to go to work in his previous life.

One must balance work and rest. Comforting himself with this thought, Uchiha Gin put down the work in his hands, closed his eyes, and began to slack off.

Just as he was closing his eyes to rest, a cautious knock sounded at the door.

"Please come in."

Hearing someone knock, Uchiha Gin immediately opened his eyes and casually picked up a scroll to start "working."

Lu Cha Uchiha, whom he had seen yesterday, pushed the door open and entered. He carefully checked to see if there was anyone else in the room, and upon discovering that only Uchiha Gin was there, he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Lord Gin is so dedicated to his work; you are truly a role model for us."

Seeing Uchiha Gin holding a scroll and reading it with a serious expression, Lu Cha Uchiha immediately buttered him up.

"Not at all, not at all. I am just doing my duty."

Uchiha Gin waved his hand modestly.

"I wonder what brings you here, Brother Lu Cha?"

"Lord Gin, you are too kind to this lowly one; just call me Lu Cha."

"No matter, Brother Lu Cha, I wonder what advice you have."

Seeing that there was no one around, Lu Cha Uchiha stepped forward a few paces and whispered to Uchiha Gin.

"Lord Gin, I have already found a lead on the matter you instructed."

After accepting Uchiha Gin's task yesterday, Lu Cha Uchiha immediately took action, inquiring at all three dungeons one by one. Finally, heaven rewards the diligent, and he managed to extract a piece of news from an older jailer.

"Please speak, Brother Lu Cha."

Hearing this, Uchiha Gin raised his eyebrows, thinking that this guy's efficiency was quite good; he had found a clue in just one day.

"According to an old jailer here, this dungeon did not have its current layout in the past."

As he spoke, Lu Cha Uchiha pointed to the dungeon map hanging on the wall, gesturing to the space between the No. 1 and No. 2 dungeons, and continued.

"There used to be four dungeons here, but about six years ago, Elder Yan abandoned one of them, leaving only the current three."

Lu Cha Uchiha drew an imaginary circle in the large blank area between the No. 1 and No. 2 dungeons, indicating that another dungeon had once existed there.

"Since it was abandoned, that means it's no longer in use, right?" Uchiha Gin asked after thinking about it logically.

"I don't know if it's in use or not, but that old jailer said that before that dungeon was abandoned six years ago, someone had been secretly imprisoned there."

Lu Cha Uchiha said mysteriously.

"Since it was a secret, how did he know?"

Although the news of a secret imprisonment was tempting, didn't this old jailer know a bit too much?

"Ah, I didn't ask that."

Lu Cha Uchiha was momentarily speechless, stumped by this unexpected question.

He really hadn't thought about why the other party had so easily told this secret information to someone he had never met before. Could it be just because he had revealed that he was a confidant of the new clan head's nephew?

"Forget it, continue. What else did that old jailer tell you?"

This suddenly appearing mysterious old jailer made him feel vaguely that something was wrong; the timing of the person's appearance was just too perfect.

"He told me that after that person was locked in, they never came out again, and shortly after, Elder Yan announced that the dungeon was abandoned due to disrepair."

Lu Cha Uchiha swallowed, soothing his dry throat.

"What kind of person was imprisoned there?"

Someone caught six years ago—could it be the group that attacked the Uchiha clan grounds?

"I asked that old jailer, but he didn't pay any more attention to me after saying those things."

Lu Cha Uchiha said somewhat awkwardly.

"Where is that old jailer now?"

Having finally found a slight clue, Uchiha Gin did not want to give up.

"He is in the No. 3 Dungeon, doing cleaning work because of his personal circumstances."

Lu Cha Uchiha found it difficult to say.

"Why?"

"That old jailer is blind."

Lu Cha Uchiha's eyes dodged with a guilty conscience.

???

The person who knew these things was actually a blind man, so the accuracy of this information was open to question.

No wonder Lu Cha Uchiha was able to find information so quickly; it turned out he didn't even spare a blind man.

"Thank you, Brother Lu Cha. If there is any more news, please let me know as soon as possible."

Learning that the source of the news came from an old blind man, it seemed that this information was mostly fabricated.

After all, how could a low-ranking jailer know about something as secretive as a secret transport?

"I wouldn't dare. It is this lowly one's honor to serve Lord Gin."

Lu Cha Uchiha looked terrified.

Frowning, Uchiha Gin recalled the memories of the original owner.

From his memories, although the original owner had a strange temper and sometimes bullied and provoked his clansmen by relying on his status as the clan head's nephew,

he did not have extreme behavior toward clansmen who had no malice toward him. But why were the ordinary clansmen so afraid of him?

"Brother Lu Cha, how do the clansmen usually view me?" Uchiha Gin asked.

Asked this life-or-death question, Lu Cha Uchiha's eyes drifted, and he didn't know how to say what was on the tip of his tongue.

Although the past two days of interaction made him feel that the Uchiha Gin in front of him was not as unbearable as the rumors suggested, he couldn't be sure if the other party was "fishing for a confession."

"Brother Lu Cha, given our current relationship, you can feel free to speak your mind."

Uchiha Gin revealed a friendly smile and patted Lu Cha Uchiha on the shoulder, signaling that he was now one of his own and there was no need for reservations.

"Then I will say it."

As if he had made up his mind, Lu Cha Uchiha gritted his teeth, and his eyes revealed a spirit of being ready to face death.

After brewing his words, Lu Cha Uchiha squeezed out a sentence:

"As far as I know, Uchiha Gin, you are just a pure-blooded piece of trash."
