Chapter 25: Not Your Wish (Part 1)

~7 min read 1,329 words

"Uchiha Fugaku, what is the meaning of this?"

Danzo stared fixedly at Uchiha Fugaku, exuding an imposing aura capable of intimidating everyone present; it was undoubtedly a stern warning.

"It is merely a precaution."

Uchiha Fugaku spoke: "All I can feel in this meeting is pure malice. A high-ranking official of Konoha ignores the truth to target fellow villagers at every turn, while shielding a foreign delegation full of lies that only wants to take a bite out of Konoha, refusing any debate. You have ignored the most important fact of this incident: the Cloud Ninja envoy was the first to violate Konoha's curfew, which is the key reason why all of this happened."

"What are you still talking about at this point? I should have already said it: the most important thing is that the Cloud Ninja envoy died in Konoha and someone must be held responsible. The cause and the process are no longer important; the result is everything."

"When it comes down to it, this murder is full of conspiratorial factors. Once we have judged that sinner, the truth will naturally surface. If you are bent on stopping us from judging the sinner at this time, Uchiha Fugaku, can I interpret this as your participation in the conspiracy behind this murder? No, perhaps, as our friends from the Cloud Ninja say, it is a conspiracy of your clan?"

"Uchiha Nanshu conspired to sabotage the peace talks and assassinated the Cloud Ninja envoy. To cover up his crimes, he did not hesitate to frame the Hyuga Clan in an attempt to muddy the waters. This is a most vicious and unforgivable act of treason against the village! Fugaku, as the Uchiha Clan Head, you failed to restrain your subordinate, leading to the deterioration of the situation. For this alone, you cannot shirk your responsibility."

Danzo looked at Nanshu below the platform with a hint of contempt in his eyes, then turned his head to lock his gaze onto Uchiha Fugaku.

"If it were me, I would not have allowed any survivors to remain on the scene, nor would I have let my own clansmen be stupid enough to let the Hyuga Clan prove their innocence."

"Nanshu's greatest mistake was trusting those who should not have been trusted, wishfully thinking that his actions could win the favor of others and change the dire situation our clan is in. His intentions are commendable, but his methods were too foolish. It is as if he only saw the side of things that was favorable to him, but became at a loss once things spiraled out of control and developed for the worse."

"Naive, childish. I have never seen any clansman think that a single event could reverse the negative influence other families have toward the Uchiha."

Nanshu opened his mouth.

He truly did not know that the Cloud Ninja envoy would use the tactic of suicide. Although he was a transmigrator, he was not an omniscient and omnipotent god. Even if replaced by other transmigrators, how many could have foreseen that things would deteriorate to this point? Not only did the Cloud Ninja envoy, who should have survived, choose to commit suicide to fulfill his village's goals, but it was also intertwined with the power struggles among Konoha's high-ranking officials. If this were not written down, who could have foreseen that Danzo would even take the initiative to contact the Cloud Ninja for his own ambition?

Nanshu's anger was not only directed at himself, but was more of an agitation because things had exceeded his expectations and were uncontrollable.

In fact, Nanshu had been wrong about his own positioning from the very beginning. If he had not intervened in the Hyuga Clan's affairs, he would have at most been an "observer" of the event, but once he participated, he became a member of the story. From that moment on, the direction of events could no longer be predicted. If that is the case, looking back at the "Cloud Ninja Envoy Suicide Incident," one would find that this was actually the automatic evolution of the storyline, one path among the infinite possibilities extending from the original timeline.

And this derived storyline would become nutrients for the system; the essence of obtaining points by changing others' fates is exactly this.

But the system was not Nanshu's true backing; it was useful, but not the most important thing.

If Nanshu could experience a few more transmigrations, he would understand that a transmigrator's true golden finger is actually insight into the future. Because they know almost all the secrets of this world, they are naturally in an invincible position. Even with a hellish start, they can use their foresight to avoid crises. Of course, Nanshu belonged to the type who was kidnapped by the system and could not run away.

If Nanshu could run, his best destination right now would actually be to find the Loulan Kingdom.

"But after this incident, I believe he will grow—to position himself correctly and discard those 'untimely' thoughts."

Uchiha Fugaku said this, and the latter revealed a thoughtful expression.

"Hyuga Clan Head, I believe Nanshu helped your Hyuga Clan with the intention of befriending you. Of course, you will refute that all of this is non-existent, but I believe you know the truth in your heart. However, regardless, the Uchiha Clan will remember today's events!"

Uchiha Fugaku squinted at the gloomy-faced Hyuga Hiashi, whose hands were clenched tightly on his knees, his lips trembling slightly.

No one could understand Hyuga Hiashi's mood at this moment, and at the same time, no one wanted to care about the thoughts of someone like him—at least, some people thought so.

"Fugaku! Are you threatening a witness?!"

Danzo could not watch any longer and directly rebuked him.

"A witness?"

Uchiha Fugaku sneered, his face full of mockery: "All I see in my eyes is an unfair trial with a predetermined outcome! In reality, whether it is the Hyuga, the Cloud Ninja, or you, Lord Danzo, none of you actually care about what the truth of the matter is. Wasting so much time, making excuses, and even calculating against an ordinary youth—the goal behind that is nothing more than targeting the Uchiha!"

"Lord Danzo, I am afraid that what you want to kill is not just Nanshu; what you want more should be my head and the heads of all the Uchiha."

A chilling murderous intent enveloped everyone present. In fact, now was not a good time to openly tear faces with Konoha, but through the series of actions targeting Uchiha Nanshu just now, Uchiha Fugaku had realized that it was no longer a question of whether they wanted to or not, but that someone present was already unable to hold back.

Danzo subconsciously raised his eyebrows; for a moment, he really wanted to nod and say yes. However, the current Uchiha Fugaku gave a very subtle feeling, a silence like that before a volcanic eruption. His face appeared calm, but in reality, a raging fire was already burning in his chest. And what was going on with those eyes of his that gave an ominous premonition? They were clearly just ordinary Three Tomoe, yet the pressure was even stronger than that of Shisui's Mangekyo.

Out of a keen sense of crisis, Danzo seemed to realize something.

"Hmph, regardless of what you say, it is an ironclad fact that Uchiha Nanshu killed the peace envoy. The person is dead, the body is right here, and no matter what, if we do not get a satisfactory answer, the Cloud Ninja Village will never let this rest. If Clan Head Fugaku insists on shielding the sinner—that is a great crime of destroying the peace between the two villages, and the entire Uchiha Clan should be held responsible for the war that will break out in the future!"

Danzo said this, his goal already revealed: he wanted to drag the entire Uchiha Clan down with him.
