Chapter 105: Transfer of Power (Explained in the First Two Chapters)
The crowd was bewildered; they only saw the two raise their heads, stare at each other with three Tomoe, then remain still, and after a moment both lowered their heads, their eyes shedding blood tears.
Could someone have used genjutsu to ambush and been backfired? Who is the caster? Only the Elder wore a terrified face, but after seeing the many clan members, he swallowed the last few words.
Shisui and Fugaku only manifested three Tomoe, but he knew Shisui's background: possessing a Kaleidoscope Copy Wheel Eye, his ocular power was immense; a genjutsu duel with three Tomoe should not merely be a kill‑shot but an easy crushing.
How could they be backfired to the point of shedding blood tears? "Why are you the one?"
The Elder trembled with anger; the clan had suffered so many grievances, and Fugaku had hidden such a huge secret, keeping it until today, then using it against the clan.
Thinking that one of the two Kaleidoscope owners must die made his heart ache to the point of breathlessness.
Badai, seeing the Elder's pallor and that he could collapse at any moment, hurriedly leapt onto the hallway and supported him.
"Why is this happening!"
The Elder leaned back and, with the momentum, fell into Badai's arms.
If Fugaku could reveal those eyes early, then Uchiha Shisui thought of this, and the Elder was stunned again; if the black pot of the Nine-Tails' turmoil had been exposed early, he scrambled to look at Fugaku, his gaze extremely complex, and only now did he understand Fugaku's well‑intended motives.
Moreover, he hadn't expected that he had previously misjudged Fugaku, and now still hadn't recognized Fugaku.
But it no longer mattered; saying anything now was too late. Since Fugaku used genjutsu to spar with Shisui, he surely wouldn't stop here; before he fully reveals the power of the Kaleidoscope, he must do something.
If only one of the two could survive, he would choose Shisui.
The Elder gasped, then signaled Badai with his gaze.
Badai met his gaze, his body jolted instantly, then his peripheral vision glanced at Fugaku; the two were only three steps apart.
He hesitated only briefly, then drew his sword wildly toward Fugaku.
"Stop!"
But at that moment, Shisui, who was below the hallway, suddenly raised his hand to restrain him; Badai paused, instinctively stopping.
Fugaku remained seated, neither dodging nor avoiding; after Badai stopped, he wiped away his blood tears, slowly lifted his head, his pupils having turned black.
Shisui also wiped away his blood tears, his eyes restored, looked up at Fugaku, sorting the information transmitted to his mind, and whispered, "Thank you, Clan Leader Fugaku."
At this moment he fully understood the other's meaning: before he revealed the Kaleidoscope, the other only tested his strength through taijutsu and ninjutsu; after both displayed the Kaleidoscope, he began to demonstrate, regardless of ocular power, the clan's forbidden techniques' power and cost.
However, Fugaku clearly hadn't anticipated that he had already informed the Elder and obtained the scroll, gaining sufficient knowledge of these forbidden techniques.
After the other learned this, Shisui also expressed his resolve; he had the clan's support and trust, and began to question the other's path.
After Fugaku confirmed Shisui's strength, his awareness relaxed; seeing his close friend further unsettled his mind, allowing him to be easily defeated.
But Shisui had to admit that compared with Fugaku, his taijutsu, ninjutsu, and combat experience were lacking; only his genjutsu could overwhelm the opponent.
And Fugaku?
He heard Shisui's restraint and thanks, his shoulders drooped slightly, his whole body relaxed.
Badai withdrew his hand, glanced at the Elder; Fugaku also flicked a sidelong glance at the Elder, sometimes really wanting to unleash Amaterasu on him, but reality proved the other's existence was indeed beneficial to the clan, so he could only vent in the illusion.
"Since someone proposed it, let's follow clan rules and hold a vote."
Then he looked at Shisui with increasing satisfaction, then scanned the crowd where Shiliuye, still calmly staring at him, offered a suggestion.
Shiliuye was dumbfounded; the moment he had just stared at Fugaku had terrified him, but now he seemed indifferent.
In a few breaths, what exactly happened? "Ahem, since the clan leader agreed to a vote, let's vote quickly."
Only the Second Elder responded swiftly, urgently signaling the clan members to bring the voting tools; he truly feared the two would fight and split the clan. Someone, upon receiving the cue, immediately set off; the items were placed outside the courtyard, and the voting implements were soon brought in.
The crowd voted in a daze, the result was self‑evident.
Nearly sixty people unanimously voted to dismiss the incumbent clan leader Uchiha Fugaku and install Uchiha Shisui as the new clan leader.
Fugaku shifted his body, stood up, and the crowd instantly stared at him tensely, while only Shisui calmly rose and stood before Fugaku.
Beyond the hallway was a wall door, open; a figure slowly walked out, standing beside Fugaku—it was Uchiha Mikoto.
The two exchanged a glance; Fugaku lightly nodded, then looked at Shisui, pulling him up, and whispered, "Since the clan chose you, the family is now yours; I trust you, you can do better."
Fugaku's voice held no disappointment nor despondency, but was unusually relaxed.
"Yes, I will protect the clan with my life!" Shisui faced the crowd, solemnly promising.
Seeing this harmonious side, the crowd felt oddly unsettled; moments ago they had been on edge.
"Clan Leader Shisui!"
At a sharp shout, whether the elder clan members or the snow‑field crowd instantly reacted, half‑kneeling in salute, including Fugaku and Mikoto, who also half‑kneeled beside Shisui.
"From now on, I ask everyone to work together with me."
"Yes!"
The transfer of power was complete; what followed would be the most tricky matter.
How to deal with Uchiha Fugaku's family? Kill them?
Seeing Fugaku make no further resistance and cooperatively complete the procedure, the Elder naturally couldn't bring himself to kill such a Kaleidoscope holder.
But leaving it unaddressed would also be unsuitable.
While the crowd hesitated, Shisui had already prepared, and said, "Now I announce the punishment for Uchiha Fugaku."
The crowd watched, expressions varied.
Fugaku and Mikoto leaned together, calmly awaiting the verdict.
"The houses built in the western part of the clan lands are not only for clan members to live in, but also include a shrine hall; in the future, those who make great contributions to the family may, after death, have their names inscribed in the shrine and be worshipped by the clan."
"Uchiha Fugaku, repay the suffering you brought to the family with the rest of your life; once the shrine is completed, you shall guard it day and night, never permitted to leave."
Fugaku was stunned, until Mikoto brushed his arm, prompting him to react; the two immediately bowed and said, "Yes."
"Shrine hall?"
Shisui's decision stopped the crowd's indecision; instead, the newly mentioned shrine hall piqued their interest.
The Uchiha do have a shrine hall, but this one is not for ancestor worship; it serves as a relatively important venue, sometimes used by some clans for ceremonies.
They don't care about the shrine's name; they care about the honor of having their names inscribed for clan worship after death; just thinking of it makes their blood surge and hearts swell.
The Elder, though also very interested, clearly found concluding this action more important.
Then he spoke up, reminding: "First finish the remaining tasks, and we'll discuss the shrine matters later."
"Alright!"
This chapter was supposed to be released together with the previous four chapters, but I was too tired yesterday and didn't write it. Many readers, after finishing the previous chapter, were debating why Fugaku would expose the Kaleidoscope and similar things. I can only say that perhaps my description was indeed unclear, so I got up early this morning and hurried to write this explanatory chapter. There should be two more chapters tonight; consider this one as yesterday's.
