Chapter 56: Friday On-Shelf Notice
First of all, thank you all for your support all along. Whether it's following the book, monthly votes, tips, recommendation votes, or suggestions, this book is by far my best.
My previous book was 850,000 words, but it performed terribly. I've seen people in the comments asking if I have other books, but I never gave a specific answer, because it really was awful — if you got to know me from that book, I doubt you'd have clicked on this one.
And now you can't even find it by searching on Qidian.
Some people even said in the comments that I'm a big shot. Seeing that, I suddenly felt a swell of pride, but I'm really not — both my results and my writing are pretty average.
Now if you read it from the start, a lot of you should be able to notice that my word choices are sometimes very monotonous — always things like "on his face," "expression," "complexion." A lot of repetitive stuff keeps getting reused, because I really don't have much accumulated skill. My total word count is only around two million, and even that was written on and off.
But I still thank you all for your support and praise all along.
Alright, let me get to what actually happened. This book got the trial-water recommendation last Sunday — that's the first round of recommendations. I had thought I'd just go through round one, round two, and write slowly. I didn't expect that when I woke up today, my assistant sent me a notification telling me the book would go on the shelves at 8 PM tonight.
Huh? My last book went on the shelves at 300,000 words! 300,000!
Right now I'm still completely baffled, I don't know why. Isn't 100,000 words way too early to go on the shelves? I see all those books on the new book rankings still at 150,000 or 160,000 words and not on the shelves yet — why am I suddenly going on the shelves? I hurried to ask the editor, and they helped me move it to 8 PM Friday.
Ah, that seems like it makes a difference, but also seems like it doesn't. I asked those big shots again whether I could skip posting VIP chapters after going on the shelves, because I wanted to ride the recommendations a bit longer — at only 110,000-odd words, it's really too little. Who doesn't want to improve?
But the big shot told me that not posting VIP chapters counts as a broken update. Then just now I asked the editor again whether going on the shelves at 100,000 words would seem a bit hasty, because it makes me feel a little embarrassed.
He said going on the shelves at 200,000 words counts as late. For someone like me, whose results aren't great but also didn't flop, around 120,000 words is about right — moving it to Friday already counts as late.
I don't understand this stuff either, but since the editor was able to pull me up, they wouldn't screw me over. I should still listen to the professionals.
After that I looked at the books on the Three Rivers (Sanjiang) list again and found that a lot of them are going on the shelves today. Suddenly I felt relieved again — seems like I accidentally avoided them.
Hehe~ Anyway, that's pretty much the situation. If nothing unexpected happens, this book will go on the shelves Friday night. I'll try to stockpile as many chapters as I can, but I don't think I can stockpile that many either. Yesterday I sat in the writing room for seven hours and only managed to squeeze out 4,000 words. I really can't imagine Lao Ying's typing speed and thought process.
I won't dare promise too much — five updates guaranteed. As for the extra updates, I'll go look at how other people write their上架感言 (on-shelf remarks), and I'll write one Thursday night too.
That's all. Thank you, everyone!
