Chapter 76: Coup

~7 min read 1,287 words

"So Lord Shisui has arrived, Lord Shisui, good afternoon."

That afternoon, at Nanhe Shenshe.

Shisui and Hui had just arrived at the foot of the mountain when several people noticed them and gathered together.

"Everyone, good afternoon."

Shisui smiled and responded to each person.

"Why does this clan have to come here? Don't they think they're conspicuous?"

Hui looked at the clan members arriving around him and couldn't help sighing.

Although what he learned from Sima Yi was far inferior to Shisui's, there was one sentence he had firmly memorized.

Success is born of secrecy, failure of leakage.

"That's true," Shisui said, nodding in agreement.

Nanhe Shenshe was still relatively remote, but the distance from their current clan lands was indeed considerable.

Those who could attend the meeting were Clan Elite who had activated the Three-Scale Jade; their strength would rank them among elite ninja across the entire ninja world.

Now nearly a hundred such strong individuals converged on the same spot, and as soon as the Konoha leadership paid slight attention, they would know what they intended.

"After all, it's a clan tradition, and I heard several clan elders place great importance on this matter; it would be unreasonable not to hold the clan meeting here."

Hearing Shisui's two remarks, a few people nearby began to explain.

"Tradition,"

Shisui could only give a helpless smile; the Uchiha tradition made him feel increasingly absurd.

A few of them spoke while climbing the stone steps over the torii, then circled to the rear courtyard, which was the place where the secret clan meeting would unfold.

At this moment, many people had already arrived in the courtyard; hearing the commotion, they all turned to look, and upon seeing that the newcomer was Shisui, they rose and gestured.

Hui's eyes brightened, his chest puffed out, and his heart stirred with excitement.

Shisui halted, gazing at each person, then slightly bowed and said proactively, "Everyone, good afternoon."

The crowd responded in turn, and someone even sighed, "Truly worthy of Lord Shisui."

Just then, several clan elders arrived together; the huge stir caught the curiosity of those who had just rushed in, and upon entering the courtyard they saw Shisui under everyone's gaze.

The Great Elder's eyes flickered, and he couldn't help thinking, "I didn't expect that in such a short time you could reach this level."

Seeing the clan elders arrive, the crowd gradually fell silent.

Almost immediately behind them, Fugaku also rushed in from another direction of the courtyard.

He entered the corridor, and only after the elders and Shisui came up did he sit down.

Fugaku sat with the Great Elder and others on his left, and the Second Elder and others on his right; although Shisui was not an elder, his status was high enough to sit here, and being the grandson of Uchiha Mirror, he naturally took the far right seat.

With that, the clan meeting began.

"This matter differs from the past; it has severely impacted the daily lives of our clan members. If it weren't for Shisui's timely rescue, someone might have already died. We cannot simply let it pass and allow them to look down on us Uchiha!"

As always, the Great Elder's faction began recounting the clan's miseries, then named the Konoha, and subsequently escalated the issue to family honor.

"This incident was only caused by Rotating Sword Little Spring and Water Tiger Gate Smoke, and has nothing to do with the Third Generation. We shouldn't blow it out of proportion; it's best to discuss it with the Third Generation."

The Second Elder's faction also included those who understood the reasons; they avoided the clan's current situation in order to calm the crowd.

Both sides kept arguing back and forth, but the clan's present condition was laid bare; the radical faction had a large audience, and by continuously stating the facts they forced the conservative faction into a steady retreat.

The conservatives could only invoke the end of the war, peace above all, and arguments about the Konoha, the greater cause, and tolerance.

Fugaku and Shisui remained silent, letting the elders continue their dispute.

Soon the argument grew more intense, and the clan members below also joined in.

Unsurprisingly, the clan meeting lasted three hours without reaching any conclusion.

By evening, both sides grew weary; the radicals had shifted from demanding an explanation to a Coup to reclaim the Uchiha's glory, while the conservatives moved from tentative tolerance to a peace negotiation that handed over Rotating Sword Little Spring and Water Tiger Gate Smoke, allowing the Leaf Village to compromise.

As the sun set, Shisui watched the noisy crowd and felt both amused and sorrowful, even thinking that with this time he might as well return to study sealing arts.

"Since everyone holds their own views, why not vote on it?"

The Great Elder sighed and proposed again, noting that he was old and after several hours was gradually feeling powerless.

In fact, throughout the meeting, more than once someone suggested a vote, but the proposals were rejected by the Second Elder and others.

The Second Elder was no fool; he knew the other side had numbers, but he did not approve of their radical approach, preferring to stall until he and Fugaku could devise a solution, after which the clan would naturally stabilize.

"Then let's vote!"

Suddenly, a deep voice rang out; in an instant the hall fell silent, and everyone turned toward the voice's source.

The person was none other than Fugaku!

The Great Elder was puzzled, the Second Elder shocked, and Shisui also snapped out of his bewilderment.

"Clan Leader?"

The Second Elder called out in disbelief, but Fugaku, with a solemn expression, looked at the crowd again and repeated, "Vote to decide!"

Both the Great Elder and the Clan Leader agreed to a vote, and the Second Elder, naturally powerless to object, stared blankly at the crowd, even glancing at Shisui.

But Shisui was even more puzzled; in this situation, agreeing to a vote, wasn't the outcome obvious?

Unsurprisingly, the call for a Coup was overwhelmingly approved.

After obtaining this result, the Second Elder's hands trembled slightly.

The clan members in the hall looked at each other, and for a moment felt uneasy.

They only wanted an explanation; how did it turn into a Coup?

Tie Huo, Badai, Dao Huo, Yang Zhe, Hui and the others looked on, filled with shock and apprehension.

The Great Elder, however, was the first to calm down, his gaze falling on Fugaku.

"What will you do?"

Fugaku rose slowly, his eyes sweeping over Tie Huo, his peripheral glance catching Shisui, then he closed his eyes.

At this moment he no longer hesitates; when he opens his eyes again, his pupils have already become three tomoe.

The result is decided; I will launch a Coup to reclaim the Uchiha's glory!

His voice rose, as if he had made some resolve.

How did they originally choose him as clan chief?

The senior elder sighed, disappointment flashing in his eyes; if Fugaku were to force the clan members to reject this vote, he would actually regard the other side more highly.

At least it would show that he truly acted all this time for the stability of the Uchiha clan.

Fugaku's voice fell, and only after a few breaths did the crowd react.

Tie Huo's complexion turned very grim; he glanced at Fugaku and then at Shisui, feeling deeply uneasy.

Coup!

Reclaim the Uchiha's glory!

Let those old guys see the Uchiha's might!

Someone's expression became excited, and their Copy Wheel Eye opened involuntarily; they cheered, raising their fists high.

Until this moment, the group of clan elders were instead the quietest.

No!
