Chapter 108: 817

"Multiple bloodlines?"

The person in charge couldn't help but glance at him, shaking his head as he said, "Theoretically it's possible, but in practice there's little hope."

"Theoretically possible?" Lin Qing asked, "What exactly is the situation?"

"Genes are selfish."

The person in charge sighed, "The higher the gene, the more so. The bloodline evolution serum only gives you the chance to use a higher gene to optimize your own genes, but it doesn't mean that higher gene belongs to you; it is merely sleeping."

"Once you introduce a new bloodline, two powerful bloodlines will fight within your body, ultimately leading only to your genes going out of control."

He glanced at Lin Qing, "If you're lucky, you'll just get cancer; if you're unlucky, you could turn into a monster on the spot or suffer a genetic collapse."

Lin Qing pondered and asked, "What if I inject another weaker bloodline evolution serum? Like a primal-level bloodline; wouldn't that prevent the struggle?"

"Indeed so."

The person in charge said, "But a weak bloodline would be directly optimized and swallowed by the powerful bloodline to avoid affecting the stability of the powerful gene."

Lin Qing was slightly stunned.

"Actually, there is only one way to accommodate a new bloodline."

The person in charge said, "That is to develop one bloodline to its limit before injecting a new bloodline evolution serum. But missing the period before gene awakening, wanting to inject a new bloodline evolution serum, the cost is too great, and it is also unlikely."

He paused, shaking his head, "After all, wanting to develop a bloodline to its limit is ridiculously difficult. Even if you truly reach the same level as a bloodline lifeform, you still can't excavate all the gene abilities of every energy level, let alone reach the same level."

Lin Qing slowly nodded, thus abandoning the idea of two bloodlines.

At least, it's impossible in the short term.

But he had expected this long ago.

If one could easily inject various bloodline evolution serums, reaching a gene optimization index of 200% wouldn't be difficult either.

"Are these gene optimizations all third-energy-level gene optimizations?" Lin Qing asked, pointing to the items of gene optimization on the tablet.

"Yes."

The person in charge nodded, "Only stable third-energy-level gene optimizations; wanting to stabilize the fourth energy level, only the Wisdom Star Group could do it, right?"

Lin Qing nodded slightly and asked again, "I have already developed the gene ability 'Enhancement' of the bloodline. Is this enhancement ability brought by A-class evolution high-energy radiation still useful?"

"No use." The person in charge said, "This ability is essentially using higher-level energy to enhance physical attributes."

He warned, "Since you have injected the bloodline evolution serum, you don't need to look at any of the serums on this list regarding certain gene enhancements either; conflicts will occur just the same. Under normal circumstances, only one gene enhancement serum is injected; starting with two carries the risk of genetic instability."

Hearing this, Lin Qing couldn't help but think of Luo Wu from the Primal Research Institute; Luo Wu's state was very unstable.

It seems Luo Wu might be in a similar situation?

Lin Qing didn't think much more and immediately continued to carefully screen.

【C-class high-energy evolution radiation: Super Strength, High-speed Regeneration...】

【D-class high-energy evolution radiation: Laser Eyes, Super Sensing, Godspeed...】

"What is the difference between A, B, C, and D classes?" Lin Qing asked.

"This is actually a classification from the post-apocalyptic period, carried over to the present."

The person in charge explained, "A-class evolution radiation is essentially the 'Enhancement' ability, belonging to the most stable evolution in all aspects; B-class belongs to mutation radiation, no one knows what will happen, it's quite a gamble; C-class is based on existing characteristics one possesses, adding enhancement; D-class derives new gene abilities."

Lin Qing understood.

He immediately said, "Then I choose Super Strength, High-speed Regeneration, and Super Sensing."

Actually, he quite wanted to choose 'Godspeed' too.

Unfortunately, before gene awakening, one can generally choose at most three evolution radiations.

Because each evolution radiation makes the genes adapt more to that high-energy radiation; after three times, it becomes very difficult to work again.

Only a few people can achieve four.

Although the speed increase brought by 'Godspeed' is good, he already has Instant Light, so it's not that urgently needed.

"Confirmed?"

The person in charge warned, "After using it three times, you must wait until after gene awakening to try again, and the cost is huge; three Special Merits are required to attempt once."

"Confirmed." Lin Qing nodded.

Normally, before gene awakening, the cost of evolution radiation is small; only one Special Merit is needed to attempt three evolution radiations.

But after gene awakening, the gene instinct is unwilling to be changed and will resist the radiation, making the difficulty much greater.

So, the cost has become nine times greater.

"Which evolution radiation shall we start with?" the person in charge asked.

"Super Sensing," Lin Qing said casually.

"Alright."

The person in charge nodded, "Follow me."

Inside the sealed room, the walls, ceiling, and floor were all pure black materials that isolated radiation.

Lin Qing stood in the exact center of the room, looking up. Hanging above was a special instrument made purely of transparent material; inside the instrument was a blue polyhedral crystal, slowly emitting a soft light that completely enveloped him.

He knew the key to evolution radiation was this crystal inside; the instrument only served a controlling function.

He had not yet awakened his genes, so the crystal only needed to release a small portion of its energy to complete the evolution; the consumption would be very small.

If a gene awakener came over, the crystal's consumption would be ten times greater.

"No feeling at all..." Lin Qing muttered to himself.

Twenty minutes later.

The transparent instrument slowly rotated, simultaneously changing color gradually into an opaque pure black, and then shrank.

"Is that it?"

Lin Qing looked at his own hands in confusion, then carefully sensed again, but there was no change of 'Super Sensing'.

After walking out of the room, the person in charge smiled and said, "Come again tomorrow and the day after; it is estimated that the evolution will be completed."

Lin Qing finally realized: "So it needs to be done in three sessions?"

"It can be done in one session, but if your body's cells have reached near saturation in absorbing radiation energy, the radiation efficiency will be much lower, wasting too much energy; it would take at least half a day to succeed," the person in charge said, shaking his head.

Lin Qing nodded slightly. "Alright, then I'll come again tomorrow."

That night.

Lin Qing closed his eyes; the mysterious energy within his body trembled slightly, like ripples spreading on the water surface, constantly striving to transmit this ripple vibration throughout his entire body.

He was attempting to enter the initial stage of the Star Refining Art.

The version modified by Dr. Chu Hui based on the Star Refining Art of the Wisdom Star people was more suitable for Earthlings, allowing people to absorb Fourth-Level energy more easily.

Its essence was relying on one's own mysterious energy and body to trigger a special vibration wave.

Fourth-Level energy was too difficult to absorb; one relied on a vibration wave with a suitable frequency to crush and decompose it before absorbing it.

It was like food that infants cannot eat; once mashed into a paste, it could be swallowed.

Of course, the principle of this Star Refining Art was tens of millions of times more complex.

Suddenly—

A ripple spread from within his body; like dominoes, it caused the mysterious energy throughout Lin Qing's body to rise with the same ripple.

"Star Refining Art, entered the initial stage." Lin Qing opened his eyes, a faint smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.

A few days ago, he had felt that the Star Refining Art might succeed at any moment; at most, it would take another two or three days to enter the initial stage. Tonight, it had indeed succeeded.

Entering the initial stage of this Star Refining Art was indeed not difficult; he had entered it in less than a month.

Like the original "Free Body," even with the simplified version altering genes to increase compatibility, it had taken him two months to enter the initial stage.

In comparison, the Star Refining Art was already very simple.

"Order."

With a thought, Lin Qing said, "Advance payment, Star Refining Art."

As a massive amount of inexplicable information flooded his mind, he also understood how he should act to successfully cultivate the Star Refining Art.

—Form a perfect ripple pattern filling the entire body and maintain it for two hundred and fifteen hours; the body will naturally adapt to this vibration wave, freely changing frequency to adapt to different energies and changes.

"215 hours? Not that difficult."

Lin Qing nodded inwardly.

Cultivating this Star Refining Art for over ten hours a day would complete it in less than half a month.

Anyway, he did not need to attend training; he only needed to go for gene optimization every day. Other than repaying the debt of the original version of the "Free Body" combat technique, all other time could be used to repay the debt of the Star Refining Art.

Three days later.

The azure light above gradually dimmed; the instrument slowly contracted and stopped.

Lin Qing stood in place with his eyes closed, carefully sensing the changes within himself.

Before the radiation ended, a wonderful change had already appeared within his body; even his cells and genetic material were undergoing astonishing alterations.

—He had gained a new sense.

At this moment, Lin Qing could not only sense the energy radiating from himself but also sense that the crystal within the instrument above contained unimaginable, astonishing energy.

"Is this Superpower Sensing?"

Lin Qing pondered thoughtfully.

Simply put, this sensing ability allowed him to perceive those abnormal energy aggregates.

Energy scattered in the void and ordinary people who had not cultivated were harder to sense.

This was different from telekinetic perception of life field intensity; it was purely perception of energy, so it was still necessary.

Moreover, he could not be with Zhao Jiayi all the time.

Having this extra ability perfectly compensated for his weakness.

Another three days passed.

Accompanied by the disappearance of the emerald green light above emitting boundless vitality, Lin Qing's genes were optimized again, gaining another gene ability—

High-Speed Regeneration.

His cell activity and self-healing ability had improved significantly.

After returning to his residence, Lin Qing tried using the Invisible Edge to give himself a cut; the small wound on his finger closed and scabbed over in just a few seconds.

Within at most one or two hours, this wound would disappear completely.

This could be considered a very practical life-saving ability.

As long as the injury was not too severe, relying on this self-healing ability would allow him to recover quickly.

"Not bad." Lin Qing nodded slightly with satisfaction.

"The Wisdom Star Group also has a similar Fourth-Level ability called 'Super-Speed Regeneration'."

Chen Guang's voice sounded in his mind. "Besides faster recovery, unless the brain is destroyed or the heart is completely destroyed preventing blood supply, even severe injuries or severed limbs can regenerate."

Lin Qing was stunned.

The gap between Third-Level abilities and Fourth-Level abilities was indeed quite large.

This also made him look forward even more to the Fourth-Level gene ability of the Sky-Track Monarch bloodline.

"Before gene awakening, only those 'geniuses' who signed indenture contracts with the Wisdom Star Group could attempt Fourth-Level gene optimization."

Lin Qing sighed.

If one did not sign an indenture contract with the Wisdom Star Group, becoming a Two-Star Elite Patrol before gene awakening was also very difficult.

Only a few freaks—

such as those born with an innate adaptation to fourth-level energy, or those who risked death to undergo gene-modification experiments, or those who got lucky trying Class-B mutated radiation and accidentally awakened fourth-level abilities, could possibly achieve this.

However, for Lin Qing, fourth-level genetic abilities were already within reach.

"Over ten years ago, my father's adoptive father, Chu Hongjun, also attempted fourth-level radiation evolution at the Dawn Group; I wonder how his progress went."

Chen Guang said softly, "If the Dawn Group could succeed, Earth's civilization in terms of genetic optimization before genetic awakening wouldn't be too far behind Zhi Xing."

"Let's hope so." Lin Qing nodded slowly.

Three more days passed, and Lin Qing completed the third genetic optimization, 'Giant Strength'.

"After strengthening muscles and bones, strength should increase by about three times."

Lin Qing stepped out of the radiation chamber and tried to activate the Giant Strength enhancement in his arm; instantly, the muscles on his arm swelled up like they were being inflated, becoming extremely powerful.

If consumption didn't matter, he could also put his entire body's muscles and bones into the Giant Strength enhancement state.

"Not bad."

A faint smile appeared on Lin Qing's face as he controlled his arm to return to its normal state once more.

Immediately, he used the biological detector to check his current status.

【Genetic Optimization Index: 81.7%】

"Over 80%..."

Lin Qing breathed a sigh of relief in his heart. "Once I unlock one fourth-level ability, the Genetic Optimization Index will exceed 100%."

Each third-level genetic optimization only adds 10% to the Genetic Optimization Index.

But a fourth-level genetic optimization can add as much as 20%.

"Lin Qing."

Chen Guang's voice suddenly rang in his mind: "I've discovered your cells haven't fully adapted to high-energy radiation yet. Theoretically, you can undergo one more high-energy radiation genetic optimization, though the efficiency will be lower; it will probably require two or three more high-energy radiation sessions."

"Oh?" Lin Qing's eyes lit up. "I can do it one more time?"

Perfect; he had previously regretted not being able to enhance the 'Divine Speed' ability.

"It's probably because you've fully unlocked the third-level ability of the Sky-Track Monarch bloodline, so your body's potential in this regard has also increased," Chen Guang said.

"I still have one Special Merit award; I originally planned to save it to exchange for the original 'Divine Transformation', but let's exchange it for three high-energy radiation sessions first."

Lin Qing nodded inwardly. "Anyway, the combat techniques of the Divine Transformation series haven't reached the instinct level yet, and recently there haven't been any extra advance opportunities left for the Divine Transformation series."

As long as one's strength is strong enough, there will be chances to earn Special Merit awards again in the future.

Strengthening what can be strengthened is the true way! (End of this chapter)
