Chapter 32: The Extraterrestrial Civilization

~7 min read 1,290 words

Lin Qing pondered for a while, then said: “Based solely on your word, you want to apply for a search of this level? That’s not enough. Do you have evidence?”

“Chief,” Teng Feiyu couldn’t help saying, “do you really think I’d lie to you?”

Lin Qing shook his head. “First, you need a reason worthy of my trust. Is it just because you’re wearing a patrol uniform that I should believe your empty claims?”

Teng Feiyu frowned. “Then what would make you believe me?”

“First, tell me who you are.”

Lin Qing looked at him. “VIP members of underground fighting arenas are usually either rich or powerful. How did you manage to befriend them—and get them drunk?”

Teng Feiyu fell silent.

“If you don’t want to say, that’s fine,” Lin Qing said casually. “As long as you can produce solid evidence, you can still apply for a search.”

Teng Feiyu fell silent again, then said: “My father is the director of the Municipal Public Security Bureau.”

“You’re surnamed Teng,” Lin Qing said.

He had specifically checked—the director of the Municipal Public Security Bureau’s surname was Chu.

“I take my mother’s surname.”

Teng Feiyu opened his phone and said in a low voice: “This is a family photo. If you think it’s fake, here’s a video of me with my father on my birthday—or I can call him right now for a video call, and you can watch beside me.”

“Alright,” Lin Qing nodded slightly. “I’ll temporarily believe you.”

He had already suspected that Teng Feiyu was a second-generation golden boy here for prestige-building, and the division chief’s reaction confirmed it.

Now, by saying this, he simply wanted to confirm the boy’s true background.

“Your father is the bureau director, yet you’re here as a patrol officer?” Lin Qing asked. “Trying to earn merit and build prestige?”

“Earn merit and build prestige?”

Teng Feiyu, accustomed to the chief’s bluntness, frowned slightly. “I never thought about that. I just want to investigate the underground fighting arena case.”

“How did you meet these VIP members? And how did you get them all drunk?” Lin Qing asked.

“I had some friends disguise my identity—I pretended to be a rich second-generation,” Teng Feiyu said. “I spent a lot of money and put on a show. Only after they were drunk did they let slip anything.”

Lin Qing nodded slightly. “Outsiders can’t enter the arena. Without evidence, even if you say something, it means nothing.”

“So now does the chief believe me? Can I apply for a search warrant?” Teng Feiyu asked.

“You’re in a hurry again.”

Lin Qing shook his head. “Even if you do get a search warrant, without evidence, you’d have to force entry. If confirmed, such serious crimes usually carry the death penalty—and the underground force you mentioned, ‘Yuanhong Society,’ would certainly resist violently.”

If caught, it’s death anyway. Better to eliminate witnesses, destroy evidence, and flee.

Even fugitives, desperate to escape, dare kill official patrol officers. How could such an underground force in the shadows dare not?

Areas beyond the urban ring are chaotic. Surveillance systems in many regions have been destroyed, and suspected underground strongholds likely have widespread signal jamming.

That’s why the current public security system imposes strict physical requirements for promotion.

“Tell me first—what’s the armed strength of Yuanhong Society’s underground arena?” Lin Qing said. “Have you investigated that?”

Teng Feiyu nodded. “I’ve asked around indirectly.”

He hesitated, then said: “From the descriptions of those VIP members, the arena’s armed forces mainly consist of security personnel using ‘Super Hunter Composite Bows’—at least dozens of them.”

“Super Hunter Composite Bows?” Lin Qing mused.

In some ways, if used by well-trained individuals, such high-performance composite bows might pose even greater threats than ordinary firearms.

“Then there are the fighters themselves,” Teng Feiyu said. “Ordinary fighters don’t matter—it’s the elite fighters and champions that are dangerous.”

“Elite fighters? Champions?” Lin Qing looked at Teng Feiyu.

“These fighters all have criminal records and are exploited by the arena—they barely learn any combat techniques.”

Teng Feiyu explained: “Elite fighters have mastered the Four-Six Training Method. The escaped brothers you caught a few days ago were probably elite fighters. Champions have mastered the Seven-Seven Training Method—but there are very few champions.”

Lin Qing nodded slightly. Still, he wasn’t particularly concerned—once someone has trained in combat techniques, their combat power becomes entirely different.

“Also, I heard the underground arena has a ‘Master’ who guards the place.”

Teng Feiyu hesitated. “It’s said a champion once tried to rebel, but was knocked down by one blow from a Master. So, it’s possible… he’s trained in combat techniques.”

Lin Qing wasn’t surprised at all.

Although only legally authorized people are allowed to learn combat techniques, there are countless lawbreakers.

The reason outsiders can’t learn combat techniques is mainly due to the restriction of visualization diagrams—they’re hard to spread, or else they’d be everywhere.

“Does the underground arena have firearms?” Lin Qing asked.

“That’s impossible,” Teng Feiyu said firmly.

“So sure?” Lin Qing looked at him.

“It seems the chief doesn’t know?” Teng Feiyu shook his head. “Firearm control isn’t a World Government regulation—it’s an urban ring ban.”

Lin Qing raised his eyebrow slightly. “Urban ring ban?”

“The urban ring was built with investment from the Extraterrestrial Civilization’s ZhiXing Group.”

Teng Feiyu whispered: “It’s said ZhiXing Group possesses super-technology capable of monitoring all illegal firearms on Earth. Anyone found violating the ban will be captured by ZhiXing Group—no World Government has the authority to interfere.”

“Why would ZhiXing Group ban firearms?” Lin Qing didn’t understand.

If it’s out of fear of firearms, that’s pure nonsense.

The fugitives from Qinghu Island aren’t afraid of firearms—but to ZhiXing Group, those fugitives are no different from ants.

To restrict technological development?

But after the apocalypse, Earth rebuilt itself with even more brilliant technology—and ZhiXing Group never interfered, showing complete indifference.

“I don’t know.”

Teng Feiyu shook his head, hesitating. “But ZhiXing Group also bans crossbows—yet they don’t care about high-power bows. It seems they don’t care about weapon threat levels, only weapon types.”

“Only control weapon types?” Lin Qing was even more confused.

He was just an ordinary civilian, never even been to the urban ring—he naturally didn’t know these things.

Even in ZhiXing Group’s eyes, officials mean nothing—only true elites are allowed to live in the urban ring.

“So, Yuanhong Society really doesn’t have firearms…”

Lin Qing nodded slightly, deep in thought.

“Definitely not,” Teng Feiyu said. “No matter how powerful an underground force is, to ZhiXing Group, it’s as insignificant as dust. Who would dare commit suicide?”

He paused, then added: “Even without firearms, if archers gather in large numbers, their threat isn’t much less than that of guns.”

“I understand,” Lin Qing nodded.

Bullets have high velocity, but modern composite bows are more technologically advanced—even ordinary people using Super Hunter Composite Bows can achieve over 600 fps, nearly 200 meters per second.

With special arrows, their kinetic energy might even exceed that of some handgun rounds.

But compared to firearms, bows require far more personal skill and physical fitness to be effective.

“Chief, apply for the search warrant.”

Teng Feiyu looked earnestly at Lin Qing. “The armed strength of Yuanhong Society’s underground arena is indeed formidable—but with proper preparation, led by the acting team leader and supported by multiple group leaders armed with firearms, we can definitely suppress them.”

As a patrol officer and member of Group Seven, he couldn’t overstep his authority—he had to apply to Lin Qing, the group leader, first.

Lin Qing remained silent in thought.

After a long while, he finally spoke: “Yuanhong Society’s underground arena has existed for a long time. Why, in your opinion, has it never been shut down?”
