Chapter 70: Yearning for Peace and Stability

~7 min read 1,257 words

Night was hazy, the outlines of buildings edged with a faint glow—the distant urban ring’s radiance.

Along the empty street, the stench of blood quickly spread.

“Huh!”

Lin Qing’s single hand blurred into afterimages; with a burst of invisible force, countless fine droplets of blood were shaken loose and scattered, revealing his skin shimmering with a metallic sheen.

As the metallic sheen faded, he used his clean palm to pull out his phone and issued a summoning order through the patrol system.

A patrol officer being assassinated was a major incident; summoning the patrol team was only proper.

Immediately, he remotely controlled the patrol car parked a hundred meters away to drive over automatically.

After completing these tasks, Lin Qing glanced at the order level—it had risen to 2.1.

If I completely eradicate the Yuansheng Society, the order level should rise significantly.

“So it’s the Illuminati too…”

Lin Qing crouched beside the red-haired woman, studying the sun-shaped tattoo on her arm and noticing a sequence of numbers within it.

“7489?” Lin Qing pondered.

He’d heard the Illuminati had members scattered worldwide, each bearing a tattoo—but this was the first time he’d seen one with a number.

“Pfft!”

At that moment, the black patrol car pulled up nearby; the door opened and Zhao Jiayi stepped out and walked over.

“No special devices found on her body—looks like she gained her ability through genetic modification, allowing her to bend light,” Zhao Jiayi swiftly probed with her telekinesis.

“A decent genetic ability.”

Lin Qing said this, then glanced at Zhao Jiayi and asked, “Aren’t you afraid of the corpse?”

“What’s there to be afraid of?” Zhao Jiayi said dismissively. “It’s just a corpse—I used to work in a lab… cough… cough…”

She suddenly coughed twice, embarrassed. “Just pretend you didn’t hear it—Dad told me not to talk about it.”

Lab? Lin Qing glanced at her but didn’t press further. “Patrol’s coming soon. She had a life-sign monitor on her—check if any accomplices are approaching.”

Zhao Jiayi hummed, spreading her telekinesis to scan the surroundings.

After a while, she shook her head. “No suspicious individuals detected.”

“Good.” Lin Qing gave a slight nod.

Zhao Jiayi, as a telekinesis awakener, provided immense help—since he met Zhang Zhiren, she’d been scanning from hundreds of meters away, sending prearranged coded messages or subconscious cues via phone.

If he relied on himself, he could sense enemies through order-level shifts, but he’d have to stay constantly alert and couldn’t perceive things as clearly or intuitively.

Of course…

He had trained all six combat techniques to the instinctive level, able to activate them instantly; as long as he remained alert, he could trigger “Gang” in time to block an attack and counterkill.

But that was still troublesome.

With Zhao Jiayi’s telekinesis aiding him, a simple intuitive warning was enough—nothing to fear.

After all, this red-haired woman’s only strength was her invisibility; her actual power was slightly below that of a standard team leader.

Once deprived of her stealth advantage, she was truly weak against him now.

“By the way.”

Lin Qing suddenly asked, “Have you confirmed the location of Zhang Zhiren’s ‘handover’?”

Zhao Jiayi nodded, glancing at the red-haired woman’s corpse. “I subtly suggested to her, ‘Tomorrow’s handover location should be safe’—she unconsciously looked toward that direction.”

She pulled out her phone, opened the map, and said uncertainly, “After multiple subconscious prompts, judging from where she unconsciously gazed, it’s likely near ‘Bai Xiang Street’ or ‘Qianjiang New City.’”

Lin Qing nodded slightly.

Criminals, for safety, would never leave digital traces—whether private car or ride-hailing, both leave records in traffic databases.

Since this is in Xiaoshan District and the distance isn’t far, walking there in invisibility mode is safest.

So she must know the route well; the direction she unconsciously looked is almost certainly the handover location.

“Any confirmation on the time?” Lin Qing asked. Zhao Jiayi nodded. “I followed your instructions and subtly warned her not to miss tomorrow’s critical time. She checked her phone’s alarm—closest one was 5:45, then 7:30 and 17:25. I can’t tell which.”

Telekinesis scanning was convenient—like a full-spectrum camera.

“Zhang Zhiren seems to place great importance—or even anxiety—on this ‘handover.’ The timing likely can’t be changed casually.”

Lin Qing paused, then said, “I don’t know what the handover item is, but preparations will be completed before delivery. At 5 a.m. tomorrow, I’ll take you to Bai Xiang Street and Qianjiang New City—you scan, and you’ll find something.”

“So early?”

Zhao Jiayi hummed, then added, “But my telekinesis findings can’t serve as evidence—how will you mobilize patrol tomorrow?”

“Don’t mobilize the patrol team,” Lin Qing shook his head.

“There are definitely moles in the patrol team. Even if I summon them last-minute, if the location is near the handover site, the enemy won’t be stupid—they’ll catch on.”

Lin Qing said, “You use telekinesis to scan first—confirm Chu Tianyao isn’t there, no danger. Once I enter alone, then I’ll summon patrol.”

Zhao Jiayi murmured, “But Chu Tianyao will definitely come too…”

“Just like last time—ask the Chief to stand by.”

Lin Qing waved his phone. “I specifically recorded audio with Zhang Zhiren—for Yuan Anping. He doesn’t need evidence—just a credible reason.”

Besides, with his current strength, he wasn’t nearly as fearful of Chu Tianyao anymore.

Patrol Officer No.1 Xu Qiu’s power was nearly equal to Chu Tianyao’s; though she mastered the original Sunrise Training Method, all six combat techniques were only at the “Mastered” level.

He had six techniques at the instinctive level, which nearly compensated for the gap between the 77-version and original Sunrise Training Method.

So his current strength was nearly equal to Xu Qiu’s.

In other words, he could at least spar with Chu Tianyao—and with the Chief standing by, there was nothing to fear.

“No wonder you recorded it,” Zhao Jiayi realized.

“But… why are you so invested in this?” She suddenly studied Lin Qing with curiosity. “We don’t even know how many merits this will earn—do you hate criminals this much?”

Lin Qing glanced at her.

This girl.

He deliberately adopted a serious tone. “How did you pass your patrol professional political education exam? Eradicating evil is our duty as patrol officers—your ideological stance is problematic.”

“….”

Zhao Jiayi couldn’t help glancing at the red-haired woman on the ground—who the hell among patrol officers went on undercover ops and killed people by ripping out hearts?

“I’m just an ordinary person who yearns for peace and stability.”

Lin Qing said casually, “Don’t you think society improves when it’s orderly and stable?”

Zhao Jiayi felt he didn’t seem like someone with strong justice—but somehow, she sensed he wasn’t lying.

“By the way.” Lin Qing suddenly said, “I almost forgot something.”

“What?”

Soon after, some on-duty patrol officers from the branch arrived at the scene and began investigating the red-haired woman’s corpse and belongings.

Unfortunately, her phone appeared linked to her life-sign monitor—after her death, the data had been wiped; no one knew if the tech division could recover it.

Even if it hadn’t been wiped, it likely wouldn’t yield much useful information.

“Captain, your arm…”

All arriving patrol officers couldn’t help staring at Lin Qing’s left arm.

Anyone with eyes could see his left arm was grotesquely twisted, his face pale.

“Nothing serious—I’ll just go to the hospital to reset the bone later.”

Lin Qing glanced at the red-haired woman’s corpse, a hint of dread in his voice. “She attacked me in invisibility—I didn’t have time to activate a technique. Almost got killed. Lucky I reacted fast…”
