Chapter 254: What are you waiting for?

~7 min read 1,300 words

On the computer screen in the SKT restroom, Faker's lips trembled, his eyes panicked, the screen's light shone on his pale face, the game reflected in his glasses, and faintly one could see that it was exactly the G2 Zhong Ren fighting the Baron.

Then the camera switched back to Summoner's Rift.

Bo Bi brought the Zhong Lu minion wave up and began to destroy SKT's mid first tower.

The other three members of G2 were all in the Baron pit, not even placing a control ward, just focusing on dealing damage, and Baron Nashor's health bar visibly shrank.

"They did it on purpose……on purpose letting us clearly watch how the Baron died……this is a psychological tactic……"

Kkoma's voice was low and hoarse; he turned his head, his bloodshot eyes staring at the bewildered young jungler:

"Jiang Shanjiu, have you learned it?"

Blank blankly shook his head.

Kkoma tugged at the corner of his mouth; it was unclear what kind of feeling that smile conveyed.

……

The moment Viktor resurrected, the Baron was killed by Mang Seng's Smite.

Afterwards, the three members of G2 grouped up and rushed straight to the top lane, forcibly destroying SKT's not-full-health top tower without the minion wave, then immediately recalled to base.

On the mid lane side, Lao Zhang's Bo Bi likewise solo took down SKT's mid first tower.

The Baron buff has the effect of strengthening recall; recall time was shortened to about 4 seconds.

The resurrected Zyra came to mid lane, only seeing Bo Bi's recall tail light.

Faker's complexion turned even paler.

One minute ago, SKT had an over 8,000 gold advantage, victory in hand.

One minute later, the 8,000+ gold was halved!

"Wow! G2 made up over 4,000 gold in one wave! That's too exaggerated!"

"It's normal; with a teamfight kill plus the Baron and destroying two outer towers, there were also the big spells of Jayce and Zyra, G2 took in a huge amount of gold this wave!"

After returning home, the G2 Zhong Ren swarmed the equipment wholesale market, buying wildly, each instantly trading their bird guns for cannons.

Then they headed out with the minion wave.

Five-man, three lanes: first push the minion wave past the river, then the members of the mid and bottom lanes go take the fourth dragon, then regroup and split up to advance.

Top, mid, ADC, and support go mid.

Mang Seng solo pushes top.

Under the Baron buff's enhancement, the two lanes' minion waves surged forward.

With Bo Bi guarding mid, SKT had no chance to engage head-on; moreover, the Baron minion wave tanked up front, rendering SKT's poke useless.

Top lane had the most agile Mang Seng, and with his ID aura, SKT couldn't muster any desire to fight him.

SKT sent Duke's Jayce to solo lane top, but kept Faker, the strongest wave clearer, in mid, waiting for Zyra's ultimate to come off cooldown to find an opening.

Duke was already overwhelmed just clearing the Baron minion wave, unable to spare any effort to harass the Mang Seng constantly hopping back and forth in front of the tower.

Liang Yan showed no mercy, occasionally firing a Heavenly Sound Wave to interfere with Jayce's wave clearing.

The second Heavenly Sound Wave hit, and Mang Seng flew up amid the casters' exclamations.

Duke jumped, thinking someone had come from the jungle, instantly switched Jayce to hammer form, focused entirely on Mang Seng, ready to knock him away the moment he got close.

However, Mang Seng touched the cannon cart mid-flight and turned back, his flight path tracing a beautiful '7' in the air.

"Ah shit……"

Even the mild-tempered Duke couldn't help but curse, feeling shown up.

On the Europe analyst desk, the commentators burst out laughing.

"Duke was shown up till his scalp tingled!"

"Haha, this kid is too slick!"

"He's started to play around."

"No no no, this isn't just playing; it's genuinely useful—hammer-form Jayce wouldn't dare jump up to clear ranged minions, or the tower's HP would drain even faster!"

It has a bit of a forced-praise flavor.

Although it makes sense, in reality it's irrelevant to the overall situation.

Because the cannon cart is something Jayce can't clear no matter what.

Since patch 4.20, the Baron buff added a minion promotion aura; the cannon cart gains 50 attack damage and 600 range under the aura, and deals double damage to towers.

Also in patch 4.20, the cannon cart's spawn schedule changed from one every two waves after 35 minutes to one every two waves after 20 minutes and one every two waves after 35 minutes.

When G2 took the Baron, the time had just passed 35 minutes, so now a cannon cart comes with every wave.

Now, three cannon carts have piled up in front of the top second tower!

Three super cannons set up outside tower range, blazing away; with other minions and Mang Seng providing cover, Jayce can't clear them at all!

In less than a minute, SKT's top second tower was pushed down by minions.

Duke fell back to high ground.

Liang Yan turned and slipped into the jungle.

Seeing this, the SKT mid laners saw that their mid second tower also had little health left, so they could only retreat to high ground as well.

Now it's G2's turn to torment SKT.

But when SKT earlier tormented G2, they didn't have the Baron buff.

So this is an enhanced version of the torment!

Liang Yan began detailed command, having everyone slightly guard the cannon carts to chip away at some health from SKT's mid and top high-ground towers; after half a minute of adjustment, he successfully got the two out-of-sync lanes' minion waves to march together and push up onto SKT's high ground.

The Baron buff still has a full minute left.

Faker for some reason hadn't spoken commands in a while; Bengi looked at the endless surge of super minions and gritted his teeth:

"We can't hold this; should I go in? Those four have no flash, while our AD and top laner do!"

Faker finally spoke:

"You didn't flash, how do you go in?"

"I used my ultimate to fly out and engage!"

Bengi placed the signal on a tunnel near the lower river; it's the only remaining outer tunnel of the excavator that hasn't been torn down.

Faker glanced at the minimap:

"Too far."

"But we can't hold it like this!"

Faker remained silent for two seconds, then said:

"Wait."

"Wait for what?"

"Yeah, what are we waiting for?"

Bengi's question left Faker stunned for a moment.

Wait for the enemy to engage?

Mang Seng can't engage without flashing; Firrrrrre is strong but he's not blind—on the contrary, he's a terrifyingly calm opponent.

Only Island's Bo Bi can engage.

Now this Bo Bi has Mercury's Treads plus four items, and also the blessing of two earth dragons; he advances with steadfast resolve, able to make the armor-piercing Jinx and Jesse last forever.

Moreover, no one can get past him to threaten the backline.

Thus, under the blessing of Baron Nashor, G2's three backline members hide in the rear and output comfortably, with super long-range minions and siege vehicles helping to focus fire; even Rek'Sai would be instantly killed, let alone other squishies.

Waiting to engage is obviously not feasible.

Then what are we waiting for?

Wait for G2 to destroy both lanes' high ground and then go take the ancient dragon?

Faker felt a chill in his heart, his hand trembling slightly.

"Okay."

He said,

"Then you go engage."

Bengi, without a word, switched screens, clicked his ultimate on that tunnel; after a brief delay, with a 'ga' sound he took off.

At the same time, Liang Yan's voice came through the G2 Zhong Ren's headset:

He flew! Lao Zhang, up!
