Chapter 324: Back
Finally back.
Gao Jun gazed at the night sky and sighed, saying something, but he didn't notice the person beside him say, "Thanks, goodbye."
Wang Liangyi quickly tugged at Gao Jun's clothes:
"Manager Gao, Manager Gao! Don't space out, he's left!"
Gao Jun came to his senses, saw Liang Yan already pushing his suitcase a few meters away, shoved his own suitcase into Wang Liangyi's hands, quickly caught up to Liang Yan, and shouted:
"Little Liang, little Liang! Where are you going?"
Liang Yan stopped and turned back:
"Looking for a place to stay?"
He doesn't have a home in Shanghai (to be precise, he doesn't have a home at all), nor has he bought a place here, so he planned to first find a hotel to stay for a while.
Gao Jun immediately put on a friendly smile:
"Hey, why go through all that trouble and waste money? Like this, little Liang, you can just stay at our base—there are plenty of empty rooms."
Wang Liangyi also chimed in:
"Yeah, yeah, bro, you've been to our base, you should know it's huge and the conditions are great—there are even four cooks just for meals!"
Not giving Liang Yan a chance to speak, Gao Jun struck while the iron was hot:
"Little Liang, rest assured—whether or not you end up on our team, you can stay at our base until you find a team, with no burden whatsoever."
Wang Liangyi nodded vigorously:
"Just think of it as making friends, bro—our circle is small, more friends mean more paths, right? You know, VG may not be great at anything else, but we have lots of friends; even the old sponsors from over there often come hang out here."
The two went back and forth; having come this far, if Liang Yan refused again it would seem overly cold, and indeed, as Wang Liangyi said, the pro‑player circle is indeed small—you run into the same people whether you look up or down—so there's no need to be too formal.
Thus Liang Yan got in a taxi with the two and headed straight for the VG base.
Since it was late at night and the players had all gone home for break, there was hardly anyone moving around the VG base, so Liang Yan's arrival attracted no attention.
Gao Jun enthusiastically led Liang Yan around the VG base, introducing the functions of each area, and finally arranged for Liang Yan to stay in a modest but neat and tidy room.
The room contained only a bed, everywhere showed signs of being brand‑new, and the air‑conditioning unit with purification function still had its dust‑protective film intact on the baffle. It was obvious the room had just been prepared, possibly even specially for him.
Liang Yan understood perfectly and sincerely thanked him.
Gao Jun, being sharp, knew Liang Yan must be tired from the long flight, didn't bother him further, chatted briefly, added him on WeChat, said to contact him directly if anything came up, and left with Wang Liangyi.
The two bade Liang Yan farewell and hurried straight to the boss's office.
Lu Wenjun sat upright behind his desk, watching the two enter.
"All set?"
"All set!"
Gao Jun poured himself a cup of water, sat opposite the desk with Wang Liangyi, then let out a long breath and laughed:
"Not easy at all—finally lived up to the mission and brought the person back."
"You've worked hard."
Lu Wenjun also showed a relieved smile,
"Tomorrow it's my turn to strive."
"Boss, hang in there—you'll definitely make it!"
Wang Liangyi had just finished shouting when Gao Jun gave him a light tap on the head.
Gao Jun scolded: "No respect for seniority!"
Lu Wenjun, however, didn't mind and smiled gently:
"Little Wang is right—it's indeed not that easy; I need to step up. Now you go rest first, let Liang Yan get a good night's sleep, Little Wang, you get up a bit earlier tomorrow, and as soon as Liang Yan wakes up, notify me right away."
Gao Jun blinked in surprise:
"Boss…… you're sleeping at the base tonight?"
The VG base previously had a room specially prepared for Lu Wenjun as a contingency, but it's been renovated for Liang Yan to stay in, so……
Lu Wenjun naturally knew this, and said:
"It's fine—I'll just catch some sleep in this office, and besides, I need to carefully consider the details of tomorrow's talk with Little Liang; I won't be asleep long."
Having the boss sleep on the sofa was out of the question, so Gao Jun gave up the room and went to share a room with Wang Liangyi.
Besides, the two didn't need to squeeze onto one bed—Wang Liangyi shares a room with the team's mid laner Easyhoon, but Easyhoon is on vacation back home, so Gao Jun took his bed.
……
The night passed without incident.
The next day, Wang Liangyi got up after six, finished his personal hygiene, and paced back and forth at a corner on the third floor, eyes fixed on Liang Yan's dorm door, occasionally creeping up quietly to press his ear to the door and listen for any movement.
Only when the time approached eight in the morning, with the sunrise peeking over a distant building, did a faint sound of movement finally come from the room.
Wang Liangyi immediately tiptoed like a cat, darting back to the hallway, slowly pacing back and forth, preparing to stage a chance encounter.
Inside the room.
Liang Yan woke up, picked up his phone to glance at it—Tang Anna still hadn't replied—then he got up, stretched beside the bed, freshened up, and headed out, intending to try the breakfast at the VG cafeteria.
Just after closing the door and turning around, a figure appeared from the hallway entrance.
"Hey! Bro, you're up too!"
Wang Liangyi walked over happily,
"You here for breakfast? Come on, let's go!"
Without further ado, he came up and put his arm around Liang Yan's shoulders.
"Let me tell you, our cafeteria's buns are legit—genuine Kaifeng soup‑filled buns, thin skin, tender filling, lots of broth; one bite and you'll be singing praises! And if you like southern morning snacks, we've got… oh, the Guangdong chef is off… well, never mind, if you want something else, just tell me and I'll go buy it for you."
Liang Yan, however, smiled and said:
"No need to be so formal—I'm not a big eater, just something casual will do."
The two arrived at the cafeteria, and under Wang Liangyi's strong recommendation, Liang Yan took a basket of "authentic soup dumplings", a bowl of white congee, and a small plate of pickled vegetables.
To be fair, the soup dumplings were indeed good; Liang Yan then ordered some fried chili sauce, dipped them in it, and ate one bite at a time.
While they ate and talked, Wang Liangyi's mouth never stopped chattering, like a person who would die if they didn't speak; his enthusiasm was so overwhelming that Liang Yan could barely keep up.
During the process, Wang Liangyi picked up his phone twice to type with one hand; Liang Yan could tell this guy was sent by VG to keep an eye on him, and he was probably tipping off Gao Jun or Lu Wenjun at the moment.
Liang Yan didn't expose him, quietly eating his breakfast while listening to Wang Liangyi's endless chatter, occasionally throwing in a comment.
In his mind, however, he was repeatedly comparing and weighing all the LPL clubs against VG, pondering some detail issues.
Finally he came to a conclusion:
Apart from its poor feng shui, VG is pretty good in other aspects.
As for the feng shui issue, it ultimately boils down to a roster problem.
So we really need to talk about it properly.
