Chapter 348: More Professional Than Long Ge
Free discussion time was mainly Liang Yan speaking; others also looked at the version announcements, but they didn't study them as deeply as Liang Yan.
Among VG's six starting members (the bottom lane's Sima Laozei and Gangzi are on rotating contracts but still starters), aside from Marquis, who graduated from a prestigious university's math department and occasionally checks the specific version update numbers, the others basically just glance over them, and they almost only look at changes highly relevant to their own position; other things are rarely looked at.
Liang Yan not only reads through the entire update announcement, but also repeatedly cross-checks between the Chinese and English game official websites, comparing the differences between the two versions' announcements.
When Long Ge first saw Liang Yan comparing the two official websites' announcements, he was still curious, thought it unbelievable, and also thought it unnecessary, until Liang Yan actually found a subtle but very important difference between the two language versions' announcements.
For example, the 6.22 version update.
In the official server's 6.22 version update notes, the explanation of monster spawn times is very rudimentary:
【We have adjusted the monsters' spawn and refresh times; among them, the spawn times of the Stone Armor Beetle and Magic Swamp Frog are 15 seconds later than those of other monster camps】
There wasn't even a specific time; it was just brushed over with a few brief sentences.
Regarding the change that adjusted the river crab's spawn time from 2 minutes 30 seconds to 2 minutes 25 seconds, the official server's announcement didn't mention it at all.
Moreover, the description in the update text that 'the spawn times of the Stone Armor Beetle and Magic Swamp Frog are 15 seconds later than those of other monsters' is completely wrong!
What is it actually like?
Based on the actual in-game situation and Riot's English version update announcement:
F6, the Three Wolves, and the Red and Blue Buffs' spawn times were adjusted from 1 minute 40 seconds to 1 minute 37 seconds.
The river crab's refresh time was moved forward by 5 seconds.
The Stone Armor Beetle and Magic Swamp Frog spawn 12 seconds later than the other four monster groups, i. e., 1 minute 49 seconds, which is 3 seconds earlier than what the official server's announcement said!
What is a makeshift troupe?
When Long Ge learned the truth, he was stunned.
Although such things will eventually be noticed in the game, who will make up for the time loss caused by having to completely overturn previous research due to the data error before it was discovered?
Absolutely ridiculous!
After this incident, Liang Yan's image in Long Ge's heart became even more towering, and it also convinced Long Ge—why was it Liang Yan who won the S6 World Championship instead of the world's top four junglers that everyone had been hyping before the tournament?
This is the gap!
It's a pity that Long Ge can't read English, so he can't compare the two language version update announcements himself; before hiring an English-speaking assistant, this task can only be troubled onto Liang Yan.
……So I completely agree with Long Ge's summary: this year—at least the spring season—the core of all systems is definitely the bottom lane. However, system core does not equal tactical core; we should value the bottom lane, but this does not affect our development of tactics with mid-jungle as core for the mid-game and beyond; we must clearly distinguish between system core and tactical core.
……Then this is a hero pool backup list I wrote myself, with each position included; everyone take a look……
Liang Yan distributed the printed table he made to everyone.
The table listed the heroes possibly used for the top, middle, shoot, and support four positions, with Liang Yan listing 10 for each position.
……Each position has 10 heroes; you don't necessarily have to practice according to this table—this is just my personal opinion. You'd better ask Long Ge's opinion before deciding.
……If you really can't get the hang of practicing something, you can just drop it; there's no need to waste time.
……But my suggestion is to keep at least 7 proficient heroes per position; this is mandatory in the 10-ban mode and also a prerequisite for us to develop more tactics.
Whenever there's a formal meeting, Liang Yan's demeanor becomes completely different from his usual everyday interactions; he's not a coach, but he looks even more professional than a coach.
Fu Lan Duo and Gangzi, who came from Snake, were already used to it; after all, last year they trained together with G2 in Berlin for a period, living together daily, so they naturally understood Liang Yan.
But the others were teammates with Liang Yan for the first time; although they had seen him a few times in previous meetings, they didn't get used to it quickly, so they inevitably still felt astonished.
At this moment, Marquis looked at Liang Yan, who bore the appearance of a professional coach, his eyes full of surprise and admiration.
Actually, Marquis himself also had the intention to develop toward a coaching position.
Li Zhixun only entered the industry after graduating from university; he himself is a late debut, already 24 years old this year, and he won't be able to compete for many more years, but he loves this industry; even if he retires, he wants to stay in this circle, and the obvious path is to become a coach—Li Zhixun had already thought of transitioning, but because he still has an unfulfilled obsession deep in his heart, he has kept it hidden.
And at this very moment, Liang Yan before him is undoubtedly his best role model and teacher.
Marquis took the table from Liang Yan's hand, glanced at it briefly, then nodded solemnly:
"I will practice seriously and guarantee to complete the task!"
"Um……"
Liang Yan stared for a moment, then smiled and said:
"You don't really need to master all of them; just pick seven you feel comfortable with and practice those. Moreover, I just said……"
Liang Yan raised his hand to signal Long Ge,
"It's better to ask our coach—Long Ge; I'm just providing some reference opinions, after all I'm not a professional coach."
Straight‑talking boy Sima Laozei immediately said:
"No, I think you're very professional, even more professional than Long Ge."
Long Ge's face instantly turned red, he gave an embarrassed hehe-hehe laugh, but since Sima Laozei's temper is well known in the circle, Long Ye didn't really mind either.
"Hey, wait a minute."
Gangzi suddenly shouted, glaring at Liang Yan,
"You guy, you're only busy arranging tasks for us—what about your own?"
"My what?"
"Your hero pool—are you trying to slack off?"
"Emmm……"
Liang Yan was speechless, and he hadn't expected anyone to question his hero pool.
"You idiot."
Fu Lan Duo hit Gangzi on the head and couldn't help but laugh and scold:
"He still needs to practice? Have you ever seen him have a hero he can't play? Damn, he's not just a hero pool—he's a hero ocean."
"Holy cow, is that really that exaggerated?"
Actually, it's not exaggerated.
Since entering the preseason version, Liang Yan hasn't played a single proper jungler champion—needless to say about Green Steel Shadow, which caused such an uproar that Riot nerfed it; besides Green Steel Shadow, none of the champions Liang Yan uses in Korean server ranked play can be considered mainstream; they're all kinds of weird and strange things, such as Male Blade, which is used second only to Green Steel Shadow.
