Chapter 515: Not past its prime, but it made a comeback
For this Brazil MSI trip, VG's entire expedition team lineup is as follows:
Six players,
Two coaches,
One team leader,
One manager,
One photographer who follows the team to film.
Eleven people in total, and just the air tickets cost several hundred thousand—although the ACE League will reimburse part of it—this can be called a luxurious lineup.
After bidding farewell to those left behind at the base, the group boarded the minibus to the airport.
On the bus, Liang Yan received a WeChat message from Tang Anna:
【Have you already set off?】
【Yeah, on the way to the airport】
【Safe travels】
Fortunately, enough time had been reserved; as expected, after arriving at the airport they were delayed another ten or so minutes. To show importance of this MSI expedition, the LPL region management sent LPL's top official Jinyibo together with several other executives to see them off.
They came up and gave a warm round of handshakes.
"... You gotta give it your all!"
"... It's not very peaceful out there; when you're out and about, stay safe!"
"... They've already arranged reception over there, so don't worry too much; there's a translator."
"... Wait for your triumphant return!"
Then came the send-off fan group; only see a large red banner hung above:
【Vini! Vidi! Vici! —VG!】
Looking at that slogan, everyone instantly felt passionate and heroic, and even Gangzi, who is illiterate, couldn't help wanting to recite a couple of poems on the spot—unfortunately he truly had no ink in his chest, racked his brains for a while, and even by the time boarding arrived he still couldn't come up with anything.
Finally, Gangzi slumped in his airplane seat and said with deep feeling:
"Brothers, I've suffered from lack of education; from now on, when I have kids I'll make sure they study well—damn it, don't let them become illiterate like me!"
Everyone didn't know what he'd been through, and they were all bewildered.
Suddenly, what was he blabbering about for no reason?
……
This MSI has two venues: the play-in matches are at the Brazilian league's home stadium in São Paulo, while the group stage and subsequent knockout rounds are at Brazil's hub—the Rio de Janeiro; there is no direct flight from Shanghai to Rio, a layover is needed, the fastest flight takes over ten hours, and a slower one is about thirty hours.
The flight VG's party took is considered fast, arriving in about seventeen hours.
Upon landing in the local evening, a bus arranged by Riot came to pick them up; a local translator with a full beard directly ushered them aboard, and beneath his enthusiastic demeanor he also showed some nervousness.
Soon everyone understood why there was that hint of nervousness.
From the airport to the hotel, VG's party sat on a smoothly moving bus; along the way they saw that this city, as a nation's cultural center and a world-famous tourist destination, was prosperous and lively, and the local customs felt fresh and curious. However, beneath this glamorous exterior lay visible decay and chaos everywhere.
VG members unaware of the situation felt surprised; although they didn't say it out loud, they all had a sense that their filter had shattered—wasn't this supposed to be an international metropolis? How could it be like this?
Upon arriving at the hotel, as soon as they got off they saw several burly security guards in black uniforms, with real gear slung diagonally, standing at the hotel gate, giving an immediate sense of tight security, making everyone feel even more strange.
Gao Jun obviously also realized the situation seemed somewhat unusual; before coming he had also learned some local conditions, knowing security wasn't great, but after landing what he saw and felt was clearly worse than what he had known.
For safety considerations, Gao Jun assigned rooms and put down luggage, reminded everyone with a sentence 'Don't run around everywhere,' then immediately went out to find that local translator to learn the details.
Half an hour later, Gao Jun returned, gathered everyone for a meeting.
His expression was very solemn:
"I have some situations to tell everyone."
"Right now this place is in chaos, unusually chaotic. Last month there was a nationwide strike here; although this isn't the core outbreak site, the commotion was still significant. Then these past few days another big issue started up, so outside has become what you see."
"Also, people here can easily get hold of this……"
Gao Jun made a 'gun' hand gesture, then continued:
"Also, Brazil has many gangs, and this place is no exception; although their turf is in the favelas, no one knows whether they'll take advantage of the chaos to cause trouble."
"So everyone must pay attention to safety; try not to go outside the hotel. If you really need to go out for something, be sure to tell me, and I'll arrange someone to accompany you out……"
Gao Jun shared the information he got from the translator with everyone, and after earnestly reminding them for a few minutes he dismissed the meeting. This matter caused the group's excitement upon landing to instantly dissipate, and everyone felt somewhat heavy-hearted.
Not going out is fine; it's a good chance to adjust to the jet lag—Rio is eleven hours behind Beijing time, and the biological clock still needs some time to adapt.
Liang Yan returned to his room, took a shower and lay on the bed; unable to sleep temporarily, he took out his phone to browse domestic websites.
Thanks to Tengjing's extensive promotion, some of Liang Yan's past match clip videos were dug up, and on a certain site several related videos were placed on that day's hot playback list.
One of them is a first‑person recording clip from the first game of the regular season VG versus WE; the viewpoint's protagonist is the Demacian Prince. At the video's start he is recalling to base, and we see that the moment he lands in the fountain he immediately flicks an EQ outward from the fountain, and during the EQ's flight he completes the series of actions—'open the shop to buy a true eye, close the shop, adjust the true eye's position in the equipment slots'—which, while not particularly complex, is rather tedious.
This video was upvoted to third place on that site's hot playback list.
And the video's title is:
【Just how heavenly is Jiao Shen's hand speed? One video tells you!】
And the video's uploader is a guy called OB1, lacking official certification, but his self‑intro briefly says 'LPL's number one director, pure sharing.'
The video went hot, so naturally it had to withstand countless viewers' scrutiny; in the barrage some people didn't get it—'This operation doesn't look that hard, does it?'
But the vast majority—over ninety percent of the barrage—were spamming three characters:
【Invincible!】
Why?
Anyone who plays the game a lot knows where each item is in the shop; what's difficult about this operation?
Actually the title already makes the answer clear.
In the comment section, data‑savvy folks also gave a more detailed explanation.
The Prince's entire EQ process takes less than 0.5 seconds.
In the video, when Liang Yan finished the whole operation process, the prince hadn't even flown to the finish flag's position, so his time was shorter than the EQ process, only about 0.2 seconds.
Many LOL big UPs left comments in the comment section:
【Tried it, even with a mouse macro it's impossible……】
So there's nothing else, it's just that the hands are fast, but how fast is that?
Someone coined a new term, called 'Jiao Shen-level'.
Then this move also got an exclusive name, called 'Liang's Eye-Buying Method'.
Liang Yan also only remembered after seeing this video that, back then, there was indeed a director who asked him if he could release a first-person view video.
"So that's what it was for..."
