Chapter 98: Invitation from VG

~7 min read 1,250 words

Ka Lao Si chatted with Snake for a few sentences, roughly figured out who VG was, but still wondered how VG would know that G2 Zhong Ren was coming to visit Snake's base, and just as G2 Zhong Ren left Snake's base, VG precisely called the Snake manager.

Ka Lao Si directly asked, but the Snake manager just shook their head.

"I don't know either; they probably have their own information channels. I really didn't tell anyone, but maybe someone on our team who knows VG said something—basically everyone in this circle knows each other, and private communication is very common."

Ka Lao Si stopped dwelling on it, turned to the group and asked for their opinion.

"What do you say, kids, want to go check out VG again?"

Some said they wanted to go, others said they didn't want to.

Opinions couldn't be unified, so Ka Lao Si finally looked at Liang Yan.

Liang Yan laughed and said, "Since they've invited us, let's go take a look. VG is one of the earliest established professional clubs in China, and in some aspects it's still different from Snake."

Ka Lao Si immediately decided, let's go!

No need for the other side to send a car to pick us up; after asking the Snake manager for the address of VG's base, everyone directly boarded a tourist minibus and set off.

Considering the convenience of travel for matches, most of the training bases of these LPL clubs are set up near the stadiums, and the distance between any two of them is not great.

Not long after, the minibus stopped outside the gate of a villa complex.

VG's base has also been in use for several years; although it's also a residential property, compared to Snake's large flat, VG's townhouse covering several hundred square meters looks much higher-end.

VG's League of Legends division manager Tacita (Gao Jun), dressed in a black suit, had already been waiting at the base gate; seeing everyone get out of the car, he immediately opened his arms to greet them.

"Long admired, long admired, welcome!"

"Oh my, you actually came; our VG is truly shining with your presence."

While Ka Lao Si hugged Tacita, he also listened to the guide‑translator muttering on the side, then burst out laughing and said a few polite remarks.

Afterwards the two walked in together, and everyone followed behind.

Next, Tacita led everyone on a tour of the entire base; except for the toilets, they basically visited everything from the training room to the dining hall to the dormitory.

To be fair, although a few other LPL powerhouses also use villas as bases, a place as big as VG is unique; only RNG's later mansion could compare, but by then VG had already moved into an even larger new base.

Of course, if we really compare, all LPL teams are little brothers compared to EDG's Pearl River Creative Center; at this time, EDG's base can only be matched globally by esports powerhouses like three stars and SKT, nothing else can compare, and we can't even envy it—we can only say that there is also a gap in strength between bosses, and EDG's boss is Aidezhu.

VG's boss has no special background, but the club is indeed the most experienced in domestic esports and one of the LPL teams most willing to spend money; inside the base, the training and living areas are clearly separated, with markedly different décor styles, and they even have a dedicated lounge where players can relax, chat, watch movies and other matches during their downtime.

Besides the main team base, VG also has a separate youth training base, which is quite rare in the LPL; many LPL teams' so‑called youth training camps are merely adding a training room with a few extra machines inside the base and letting the team's analysts and assistant coaches hold a youth‑training coach title— that counts as a youth training camp.

VG's youth training base, however, is an entirely separate team, and because it was newly set up, the conditions there are said to be even better than those of the main team.

Tacita also extended an invitation to Ka Lao Si, saying they'd like everyone to visit the youth training base, but because it was far away, Ka Lao Si politely declined.

"As of now, our base's facilities still have a considerable gap compared to yours."

Tacita first uttered a modest remark, then shifted tone and said:

"But to be frank, VG's new base plan has already been officially launched and construction has begun; it will be completed at the latest by 2018, and when it's done, our new base will become China's most fully featured esports complex."

The so‑called esports complex means combining multiple functions in one: it serves as the players' training base and can also act as a tourist attraction, offering shopping, dining, hotels, internet cafés and other facilities for visitors; this model already exists among some teams in the LCK, but in China it would indeed be the first—if it can be pulled off.

While Tacita was speaking, his gaze would unintentionally drift toward Liang Yan from time to time; the other young man standing beside Tacita, smiling apologetically and occasionally adding explanations, presumably their team leader, was even more obvious—he had tried several times to approach Liang Yan to talk, but never got the chance—actually Liang Yan was deliberately not giving him the opportunity.

Liang Yan may be friendly with others, but he also holds grudges.

VG is exactly the team that made him wait in vain for a reply at a coffee shop, only to discover later that he had been stood up; Liang Yan remembers this crystal clear.

Now VG seems to want to mend the relationship again, but it's certainly not that easy!

Liang Yan is deliberately doing this to keep them hanging, so they can also taste what it felt like to be stood up back then.

After wandering around the VG base for about ten minutes and sitting a while in the lounge, it was nearly lunchtime; Tacita then suggested everyone go to the cafeteria, saying he had specially instructed the kitchen auntie to prepare a few of her signature dishes. Normally, as guests, we should give them this face, but Ka Lao Si doesn't understand the local etiquette, and he also seemed to notice something—over the next period he appeared distracted, and in the end he also declined Tacita's invitation to have lunch together.

Tacita didn't insist on keeping them, but when seeing them off he produced a few LPL tickets, saying there was a VG match tonight and inviting all of G2 to come watch live.

Watching an LPL match live was a completely new experience for everyone in G2; they all expressed great interest, so Ka Lao Si accepted the tickets.

Actually these tickets aren't worth much money; first, VG, being a team of average popularity, has relatively low ticket prices for its matches; second, these are likely complimentary internal tickets given by the event organizers to VG, which VG is merely passing along to earn a favor.

And Liang Yan had also pretty much gotten over his anger; when parting, seeing that team leader looking at him pitifully, he also felt a bit reluctant, so he decided to give the other person a graceful way out and spoke up:

"By the way, Manager Gao, can you get tickets for tomorrow's Snake match? I'd like to go see it."
