Chapter 355: That Person Has a Problem!

~8 min read 1,547 words

Henry stood before the window, silent for a long time.

The skyline outside the window had changed from gray-blue to pale pink.

The dawn of Manhattan was arriving.

The air in the Command Center remained as heavy as the night.

His gaze passed through the glass, landing on the cluster of buildings being illuminated by the morning light, not knowing what he was thinking about.

The next second.

Henry's brow suddenly furrowed.

"Hank!"

He turned his head and called out to Hank.

Hank was currently on the phone with the New York Branch; hearing the call, he hurriedly took the phone away from his ear, pressed the microphone, and asked, "What's wrong?"

"That agent who just came to deliver the letter..." Henry's speech was not fast, but the gaps between every word were compressed to the minimum, "have you seen him before?"

Hank was stunned for a moment, not knowing what Henry meant.

He released the microphone, replied, then hung up the phone and said to Henry, "No particular impression, why?"

"That person has a problem..."

Henry looked around at everyone and said.

The conference room went quiet.

Everyone looked at each other, a bad premonition rising in their hearts.

"His suit, it looks familiar to me, but this person, I have no impression of him; there must be a problem here!"

Saying this, Henry turned directly and walked toward the door.

Hank and the members of the Expert Group followed closely behind.

The monitoring room of the Command Center was at the end of the corridor.

The door was gray, with a faded "Authorized Personnel Only" label stuck on it.

When Henry pushed the door open and entered, the technician on duty sprang up from his chair.

The technician was very young, looking under thirty, his hair as messy as a bird's nest blown by the wind, and the dark circles under his eyes showed he had been sitting here for a long time.

"Harry, I want to look at the surveillance of the outer corridor." Henry's voice remained steady, revealing the authority of a leader.

The technician's fingers tapped rapidly on the keyboard a few times, and the image on the largest screen switched.

The surveillance angle was shot from the ceiling of the corridor downward, able to see the glass door, the front desk, and the passage leading to the elevator covered with gray carpet.

The timeline jumped in the bottom right corner of the screen, and the technician rewound the time to 4:40 AM.

The footage began to play.

At 4:41 AM, the glass door of the conference room was pushed open from the outside.

An agent wearing a black suit with an ID badge hanging on his chest walked in, holding a yellow envelope.

Henry stared at the screen.

His two hands braced the sides of the console, his body leaning forward, his nose almost touching the screen.

His gaze lingered on the lower half of that person's face for about three seconds, then moved to the ID badge on his chest.

"Pause, zoom in," Henry ordered decisively.

The technician zoomed in on the image.

The photo on the ID badge had turned into a mosaic because it was zoomed in too many times, but the name below the photo could still be identified—letters composed of a few pixels, barely spelling out a word in the blurry noise: TERRY.

"Terry." Hank read out the name.

"Boss, it's Terry's ID badge, but this person doesn't seem to be him... Terry doesn't seem to be in the branch today!"

Hank had already taken out his phone, his fingers sliding on the screen, flipping to today's shift schedule.

His eyes scanned the shift schedule once, then scanned it again, and then his fingers stopped.

"He is on vacation, I'm sure of it!"

Hank's voice lowered, "He submitted his vacation request yesterday afternoon. Going to Orlando, taking his family to Disney, the flight was last night."

The air in the Command Center turned into something denser, heavier, and more suffocating in that instant.

"Who is this person?"

This question exploded in everyone's heart!

Henry's gaze moved away from the ID badge and moved downward along the person's body.

He examined him repeatedly.

"Rewind. I want to see how he got in."

The technician rewound the timeline to before 4:41 AM, and the footage began to play from when he entered the building.

"Keep playing."

The footage continued.

That person walked to the front desk and said a few words to the receptionist on duty. The receptionist on duty was a middle-aged woman; her expression looked very relaxed, without any abnormalities.

After finishing speaking with the front desk, he walked into the elevator and came to the Command Center.

When he exited the elevator, there was already an extra envelope in his hand.

"Let's see how he left."

Hearing Henry's order, the technician continued to follow instructions.

After leaving the conference room, he had only walked two steps when he stopped and turned to face the camera.

He seemed to be smiling.

Then he raised his right hand and reached toward his own face.

The surveillance angle could only see his profile—his fingers fumbled behind his ear, found the edge of something, and then began to tear downward.

As that layer was being torn off, brief wrinkles and color changes appeared on the surveillance footage.

It was a human face.

A fake human face.

The silicone mask was not being torn off quickly, like someone unwrapping a beautifully packaged gift.

The mask was torn off completely.

It revealed a young, fair face with a slight curve at the corners of the mouth.

This face, none other than Chu Chen!

Seeing this scene, not only the people present, but even the viewers in the live stream were stunned, and they started posting comments one after another!

【Holy crap, God Chu?】

【Brother Chen is way too bold!】

【Wait, so the agent who delivered the letter earlier was actually him in disguise?!】

【I really didn't notice!】

【Damn, this move is so impressive!】

【God Chu's Costume Change technique is truly too awesome!】

After taking off the mask, Chu Chen held it in his right hand and waved it in front of the camera.

Then, he raised his left hand, held up his middle finger, and his expression was very playful.

Immediately after, he turned around, left the corridor unhurriedly, and finally disappeared at the edge of the surveillance frame.

No one spoke.

The technician's fingers hovered above the keyboard, not coming down.

His eyes stared at the back disappearing on the screen, his mouth slightly agape, like a fish pulled onto the shore.

He had worked here for many years, seen countless surveillance feeds, seen countless suspects, but he had never seen a suspect who, inside the Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters building, wearing a Federal Bureau of Investigation suit and wearing a Federal Bureau of Investigation ID badge, could come and go as he pleased so brazenly?

This was simply not taking the Federal Bureau of Investigation seriously at all!

The next second, Henry spoke again:

"Pull up the surrounding surveillance. All exits from this corridor outward. The parking lot. The building perimeter. Surrounding streets. Every camera. Track him until he disappears."

The technician's fingers finally landed back on the keyboard.

His fingertips were trembling, like the lingering vibration of a plucked guitar string.

Before long, a dozen windows popped up on the screen, each showing a different surveillance feed—the parking lot, the main entrance, street intersections, subway station entrances.

Every frame was playing footage from the same time period, and every frame contained the same person.

Chu Chen walked out of the main entrance of the building.

He did not run, did not walk quickly, and did not do anything that would attract attention.

He walked on the streets of Manhattan in the early morning, his pace as leisurely as someone out for a morning exercise.

He turned right at the first intersection, then walked half a block, and stopped at a subway station entrance.

But he did not enter the subway station.

He stood at the entrance for about two seconds, as if waiting for something.

Immediately after, a taxi stopped in front of him, and he finally got into the car.

The technician pulled up the license plate number of that taxi, switched the view to other cameras along the street, and tracked the trajectory of that car.

The car traveled through the streets of Manhattan, passing through Midtown, passing through Lower Manhattan, passing through the Brooklyn Bridge.

Then, in a residential area in Brooklyn, the car turned into an alley without surveillance.

When the car came out, the person in the car was no longer in the car.

The technician pulled up the surveillance for all entrances and exits of the alley, and analyzed all pedestrians, vehicles, bicycles, and any transportation that could carry people that had left the area since that point in time.

But unfortunately, no valuable clues were found.

Immediately after, extending further out from that alley, all surveillance cameras within a two-kilometer radius were also checked.

But after careful investigation, there was still no discovery!

Chu Chen was like a drop of Water, blending into the ocean, completely disappearing from the footage!
