Chapter 363: He seems to know we are following him!

~7 min read 1,305 words

After finishing speaking, Pinkman turned around and walked toward the elevator.

The sound of his cane tapping the ground echoed rhythmically in the hallway, beat by beat.

But his back, under the hallway lights, no longer looked as composed as before.

The members of the Expert Group followed behind.

No one spoke during the entire process.

Footsteps overlapped in the hallway, hurried and dense, like a drumbeat accelerating.

Zhou Yun walked in the lead, following closely behind Pinkman, at a distance of less than two meters.

The others were behind him.

The elevator descended from the second basement level to the fifth basement level.

The doors opened.

There were no lights in the hallway, only the faint green glow emitted by the emergency exit signs.

Pinkman walked in the lead, the sound of his cane tapping the ground echoing in the empty underground parking garage, like an ancient clock keeping time.

The car he had rented was a black Cadillac, parked in the corner of the garage, radiating a luxurious sheen from top to bottom.

A "No Parking" sign hung on the pillar next to the car.

Pinkman walked to the side of the car and stopped.

After standing for about two seconds, he took the car keys out of his pocket.

The barrage in the live stream turned into a white, high-speed scrolling, impenetrable curtain at that moment.

【I am genuinely curious, what exactly is inside this car?】

【Who on earth sent that text message?】

【It's getting more and more interesting!】

【Is Pinkman actually an accomplice?】

【That's unlikely, right!】

The next second, Pinkman decisively pressed the unlock button on the car key.

"Bang!"

The sound of the car door locks popping open was like a muffled clap of thunder.

At the same time, countless Euros poured out from the car doors and the sunroof, scattering all over the ground!

Immediately following, that missing world-famous painting, "Famine of the Samaritans," also slid down from the back seat.

The frame hit the ground with a dull thud, and the edge of the paint layer was exposed from the back of the frame.

Seeing this scene, Pinkman's eyes widened instantly, and he stood frozen on the spot!

He stood dumbfounded with his cane tucked under his arm, completely stunned by the scene before him!

The barrage in the live stream turned into a torrent of information at this moment!

【Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap!】

【Money! Cash! Euros!】

【That painting! It's that painting!】

【It really is Pinkman! Is he an accomplice of Chu Chen!?】

【Good heavens, hidden so deep?!】

【Wow, that is truly unexpected!】

【Could this be Chu Chen framing him?】

【Framing? Why would Chu Chen want to frame him?】

【Because for a magician, people like Pinkman are the most hated!】

The barrage was arguing, screaming, refuting each other, and trying to find a loose thread in this tangled mess.

Pinkman opened his mouth.

He wanted to say something, but he didn't know how to start.

"Pinkman, how do you explain this?" Wesley asked with a gloomy face.

Pinkman shook his head: "I really don't know what happened here, please believe me, Wesley, this must be a frame-up, I am not his accomplice."

"Then why is this thing in your car?"

"How would I know!" Pinkman raised his voice and said hysterically.

"Pinkman... I believe you were wronged, but some things, you will only be able to tell the FBI..." Wesley said with some helplessness.

He knew Pinkman was not Chu Chen's accomplice.

But after all, this evidence was already clearly laid out before them.

This time, he definitely couldn't return to London; the FBI would certainly intervene in the investigation.

"It's okay, I believe the FBI won't wrong a good person who has given them so much help..."

Just as Pinkman finished this sentence, Henry arrived with his men.

It was Li Changyu who had notified him to come.

After two agents took Pinkman away, Henry said to Li Changyu: "Dr. Li, our people have made a new discovery..."

Li Changyu frowned, withdrew his gaze from the escorted Pinkman, and turned to Henry: "What discovery?"

"After a careful search, we found a suspicious vehicle three blocks away from the Metropolitan Museum. The vehicle type is a dark-colored van. The license plate is a Forgery."

Henry paused, then continued: "Through big data comparison, the driver's physical characteristics captured by cameras along the route—height, build, facial contours—basically match Chu Chen's file data. We have currently locked onto the vehicle's location; it is driving west on the ring road, at a speed of about seventy kilometers per hour."

Hearing Henry say this, Li Changyu's eyes turned sharp instantly, like a blade flashing under the light.

He had no extra nonsense, turned his head to look at the Expert Group behind him: "Then don't waste time, let's set off immediately."

Zhou Yun was the first to follow, his pace more than twice as fast as usual.

The others did not hesitate either.

Footsteps rang out in the corridor once more, more hurried and dense than when they had arrived.

The sound of soles striking the ground blended together, like a torrential rain pelting a tin roof.

The elevator rose from the fifth basement level to the first floor, and the moment the doors opened, Li Changyu stepped out first.

Just as they exited, three or four Ford sedans bearing FBI insignias pulled up to the museum entrance.

The group filed in one after another.

Inside the car.

Henry issued orders directly through his headset: "Notify all units along the beltway to maintain distance and tail them; do not alert the enemy. We will arrive within twenty minutes."

The engines roared, and the tires screeched against the pavement.

The four vehicles drove away from the entrance one after another, merging into the street traffic.

The atmosphere inside the car was as heavy as if filled with lead.

Henry sat beside Li Changyu, the tablet in his hand displaying a real-time tracking feed—a constantly moving light dot traveling west on the beltway, with an exit ramp three kilometers ahead leading to the port area.

"Dr. Li," Henry pointed to the route on the screen, "if his target is the port, it will be very difficult for us to pursue him once he boards a ship."

Li Changyu glanced at the screen, his voice steady yet carrying an unquestionable Force: "There is still time; find a way to intercept him before he reaches the port!"

The car was silent for a moment, save for the low growl of the engine and the sound of tires crushing the road surface.

Henry spoke a few words into his headset in a low voice, then looked up:

"Latest update: the target vehicle is at the twenty-three-kilometer mark of the beltway, about fifteen kilometers from the port. We are about twelve kilometers from the target; we expect to enter visual range in ten minutes."

Li Changyu closed his eyes, as if deducing every step to come in his mind.

Ahead, traffic on the beltway was sparse.

The four SUVs merged into the fast lane, the needles on their speedometers climbing steadily.

Zhou Yun stared into the darkness ahead, the white lane markings reflected in his pupils like two ceaseless arrows.

Ten minutes later, Henry received a communication.

After listening, his expression changed abruptly, and he looked up sharply: "Dr. Li, the target vehicle suddenly changed lanes at the twenty-seven-kilometer mark of the beltway and exited the main road!"

"Where did it go?" Li Changyu opened his eyes.

"The ramp leads to..." Henry quickly checked the map, his voice sinking, "the abandoned Manhattan Freight Distribution Center."

He looked up and locked eyes with Li Changyu.

"A place that is enclosed on all sides, with almost no exits."

Li Changyu frowned: "It seems he knows we are following him..."
