Chapter 160: A Young Girl's Heart is Hard to Fathom
Maidong entered the door, sat down of her own accord, poured a Tea Cup, and tilted her head back to gulp it down.
Seeing her like this, Lingxiang could not help but feel curious: "What have you done? Why are you so thirsty?"
Maidong did not speak; she poured another Tea Cup, gulped it down with a glug-glug sound, let out a long sigh, and only then answered Lingxiang's question.
"I just smashed a set of emerald flowing-cloud Tea Cups belonging to Fifth Senior Uncle, and he chased me across several peaks. I ran for a long time before I finally shook him off; it exhausted me to death."
Lingxiang was startled upon hearing this: "Is it that set of emerald tea sets brought over from the Heng Kingdom?"
Maidong nodded, her face devoid of even a shred of shame. Lingxiang sucked in a cold breath, pointed at her, and said:
"You are dead meat. That is Fifth Senior Brother's favorite set of Tea Cups. He never even took them out to use on ordinary days, just kept them somewhere to play with. You actually smashed them! The sect is only so big, and we see each other every time we look up; let's see how you face him in the future."
Yet as Lingxiang spoke, Maidong was actually staring at Lingxiang and nodding incessantly, her face even carrying a smile. After Lingxiang finished this sentence, she looked at Maidong's wide-eyed expression and couldn't hold back, bursting into laughter.
And so, on this warm spring day, only the sound of Silver Bells could be heard coming from Xianyun Abode.
Watching these two women, Adao only felt it was inexplicable in his heart. They had clearly caused trouble, yet these two didn't have a care in the world and even treated the matter like a joke.
Women, they truly are hard to fathom...
Adao yawned, then lay down with his belly protruding, and before long, he was snoring.
At the mere thought of Zhaoming Zhenren's exasperated appearance, Lingxiang found it amusing. This Fifth Senior Brother of hers was good at everything, except for one thing: he loved collecting things too much, and he always treated these items like treasures, having to polish them two or three times every day.
"But why did you go to your Fifth Senior Uncle's place?"
Maidong sipped her tea, rolled her eyes, and said: "It's because I was bored to death. There are no major events in the sect right now, Qiuyun Peak doesn't need me to worry about it, and even Xin Yi is gone. I had nothing fun to do alone, so I thought I'd go to Fifth Senior Uncle's place to beg for some treasures to play with. Who knew my hand would slip and I wouldn't be able to hold onto them, and they just fell."
As she spoke, she reached out and scratched Adao's belly: "You don't know the color of Fifth Senior Uncle's face at that time; it was truly more spectacular than a dye vat. I didn't do it on purpose either. He was really something, chasing me from Yucang Peak all the way to Kuncheng Peak; he ran through half the sect. Now, I'm afraid he's gone to Qiuyun Peak to find my master."
Lingxiang laughed until she was doubled over, and only after a long while did she speak: "Then hiding here at my place isn't safe either. If he goes to Qiuyun Peak and doesn't see you, he will definitely think of me. I estimate it won't be long before he comes over to catch you."
Maidong, however, seemed completely unconcerned and just waved her hand at Lingxiang: "It doesn't matter. With all the Senior Brothers at Qiuyun Peak, they will definitely be able to block him for a while. I can still rest well here at your place."
As soon as she finished speaking, she slumped onto the table, propped her chin with one hand, and sighed: "I wonder where Xin Yi and the others are going to train, and how long they will have to train before they can come back."
Lingxiang glanced sideways at Maidong, who was still gazing outside like someone suffering from lovesickness, and cursed in her heart: Truly a little slippery fox. I suspect that emerald tea set was just an excuse; this must be the real reason you hid here at my place...
"They did tell me where they were going before they left, but what does it matter if you know? Surely you can't go down the mountain to look for him, can you?"
Upon hearing this, Maidong straightened her body, rolled her eyes, and then scratched Adao's belly as she said: "What else can I do? Master definitely won't allow me to go down the mountain. I was just saying it casually; knowing their itinerary gives me some peace of mind, doesn't it?"
Looking at Maidong's feigned serious and indifferent expression, Lingxiang couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Hearing Lingxiang laugh, Maidong realized she was teasing her. She stood up and pushed Lingxiang in feigned anger: "Good for you, Lingxiang! You clearly saw through my intentions, yet you still toyed with me like this. You truly deserve a beating!"
Lingxiang looked at the furious Maidong and laughed even more openly. Even Adao, who was asleep, couldn't help but shudder; he opened his eyes halfway to look at her, then went back to meet the God of Dreams.
"What did I see through? I didn't see anything at all!" Lingxiang continued to laugh heartlessly.
Seeing her like this, Maidong was so angry she wanted to storm out, but thinking that she hadn't gotten the information yet, she had to pull back the step she had just taken.
"You stubborn gourd that hasn't opened in ten thousand years, how could you understand a young girl's heart?"
Hearing her complain like this, Lingxiang laughed even harder: "Yes, yes, yes, I don't understand. As if you aren't a young girl yourself."
Hearing Lingxiang say this, Maidong couldn't hold back and burst into laughter as well. And so, in the Xianyun Abode during the warm third month of spring, the sound of Silver Bells rang out once more.
Adao was too lazy to even lift his eyelids at this point, only thinking that these two women were truly crazy. They were nothing like his grandmother, who was dignified and quiet—that was how a woman should be.
He smacked his lips, turned over, and continued to sleep.
After the laughter subsided, Maidong asked seriously: "Honestly, do you really know where Xin Yi went?"
"Why, do you really want to go find him?"
Maidong nodded upon hearing this, but Lingxiang hesitated.
Ever since Maidong was brought to the Yuanqing Sect by Fuyin Zhenren, she rarely left the sect. Even when she went down the mountain, it was only to go to Youran Abode to help her tend to the Spirit Plants. With her simple mind, if she went looking for him alone, she would likely be easily deceived.
But since she was determined to do so, perhaps...
"Not only does your master not feel at ease letting you go down the mountain, but I wouldn't agree to you going out alone either. However, if you can act in a play with me, I will go with you to find Xin Yi. What do you think?"
Hearing these words, Maidong knew what Lingxiang meant.
Ever since the incident with the Kunwu Sect last time, Fuyin Zhenren seemed to be watching Lingxiang even more strictly. Not to mention instructing the mountain-guarding acolytes to watch the gate and not allow Lingxiang to take a single step out, he would also come to Xianyun Abode from time to time to see if Lingxiang was safe.
Although she didn't know what Lingxiang and Fuyin Zhenren had encountered at Tulun Mountain, she understood the feeling of being watched very well.
Qiuyun Peak was in an uproar that day, all because Maidong had left a letter saying that since other disciples would go down the mountain to train, and she had never been out to see the world, she had run out of the mountain gate without permission and was now nowhere to be found.
When Fuyin Zhenren heard the disciple's report, he was nearly choked with anger.
It was truly a headache; he couldn't guard against one without losing track of the other. He had been focusing entirely on Lingxiang, yet he hadn't expected Maidong to cause such a mess for him.
Now it was a fine state of affairs; she had left a letter but didn't say where she was going, so even if he wanted to search, he didn't know where to look.
This Maidong had stayed in the sect since she was small and had been raised in the palm of everyone's hand; she had never experienced the dangers of the world. If she were to be swindled by someone, what would he do!
At the thought of this, even the highly cultivated Fuyin Zhenren was so anxious that blisters broke out all over his mouth.
