Chapter 33: Super Famous!
After the interview ended and they returned backstage, the teammates were waiting for the two of them.
"Back at last, let's go, let's go, I'm starving!" Flandre stood up and stretched.
"What are we eating tonight?" Viper was more concerned about this.
"Ask Ye Bo," Tian Ye said, then proceeded to educate Ye Bo: "Jianghu rules: if you win, you eat a feast; if you lose, you eat takeout. Whoever gets the MVP picks the food!"
Jiejie rubbed his palms together and joked, "Hehe, then Master Ye has to bleed a bit tonight. Scout, how about you treat our new brother to a welcome ceremony?"
It was meant as a joke, and Jiejie had good intentions.
After all, until now, no one had treated Ye Bo as someone here to "replace" them.
It wasn't as if new mid-laners hadn't come before; right now in the team room, the substitute jungler Junjia and the former substitute top-laner Xiaoxiang trained and competed with them every day.
Only the World Championship had roster size limits; during the regular season, many teams carried quite a few substitutes waiting in the wings.
The most famous example was T1 last year, with a roster as large as 16 people!
They rotated through over a dozen different starting lineups, and even Faker had sat on the bench for a time.
However, Scout refused with a serious face.
"I don't have money; I only have a few thousand RMB in my bank card."
Although Ye Bo had stolen the spotlight today, Scout wasn't about to start targeting him just yet.
He really didn't have any money.
Because as soon as his monthly salary arrived, aside from keeping a bit for living expenses, he would immediately convert all of it into Korean Won and transfer it back to Korea.
Anyway, he basically didn't spend money at the base, and even if he occasionally needed to buy something big, he could just borrow from his teammates.
He'd pay them back when next month's salary arrived!
"Alright, alright, I'll treat today; consider it a belated welcome ceremony for Ye Bo!" Flandre spoke up quickly, breaking the slightly awkward atmosphere.
"Awesome! Bleeding Flandre is great too!" Jiejie acted as if nothing had happened.
Ye Bo didn't refuse his teammates' kindness: "Alright, then let's find somewhere convenient."
"Bo, you have to pick somewhere expensive today. Flandre never gives us a chance to make him bleed outside of chasing stars; this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!" Jiejie draped an arm around Ye Bo, wanting to suggest some famous restaurants in the Magic City.
"There's a place that should be good; it's a local specialty from my hometown, quite convenient."
"Sure, is it famous? Hey, what are the specialty dishes of Fujian again..."
"It's super famous!"
Seeing the confidence on Ye Bo's face, the group, already starving, felt their appetites piqued.
Professional players usually kept an empty stomach before matches because being full could cause dizziness and affect their reflexes and thinking.
In the history of the World Championship, there were countless incidents of "food-related accidents" before matches.
Some of the major "war criminals" who had been successfully arrested include: "Beef Noodles," "Xiao Yang Pan-Fried Buns," and "Bananas."
However.
When Ye Bo used navigation to lead everyone to the destination.
Everyone looked at the giant red-character plaque hanging above the storefront, and it was as if the very air had frozen.
"Don't tell me it's this."
"No, there's nothing else around here, man! Aren't the Three Great Kings all right here!"
"Ye Bo, this is the specialty from your hometown!?"
Ye Bo nodded very seriously: "Yeah, isn't this famous enough? We Fujianese really grow up eating this!"
"It's certainly famous, and not just for you Fujianese... I, a Hubeinese, also grew up eating this!"
Looking at the bright storefront of [Shaxian Snacks].
The group hesitated for a moment, but still walked inside.
They were just too hungry.
Ye Bo chose this mainly because it was convenient, and he specifically picked this location because it was close to the base.
Although the first win was very smooth, Ye Bo knew this was only the beginning of the devilish schedule.
This match had taught him a lot and revealed many of his own shortcomings and areas for improvement, all of which made him anxious to go back and organize his thoughts.
For him right now.
Time was the most important and scarce thing.
Of course, part of Ye Bo also wanted to go back to see that first-win reward.
After all, it looked like something very special.
"Not bad... it's actually quite fragrant, slurp~ this peanut sauce." Although Jiejie was complaining, he was eating happily.
"Duck leg rice is the eternal god!" Flandre took a bite of the braised egg from his set meal, his speech slightly muffled: "Don't say anything, back in '14, I ate this every day next to the Snake base. The club didn't even have a cafeteria back then, and takeout wasn't like it is now; having this to eat was already great."
Hearing this, Ye Bo suddenly spoke with a serious face: "Flandre, do you know the best way to push a Shaxian person to the edge?"
"Huh, what is it?"
"As a Shaxian person from Fujian, I must solemnly declare: duck leg rice is not a Shaxian snack! Authentic Shaxian snacks do! Not! Have! Duck! Leg! Rice!"
"...Aren't you from Huzhou?"
"That is not the point!!!"
"o.0 Got it, got it! If you throw a game in the future, I'll order a portion of duck leg rice for a midnight snack, mix it with peanut sauce, and add two stalks of Lanzhou ramen as green onions..."
Jiejie's devilish teasing drew laughter from everyone.
In the not-so-large Shaxian Snacks shop, the dozen or so EDG staff members basically filled all the seats.
Although the environment was average.
It was clear that the atmosphere was no worse than any previous gathering; it even felt more harmonious and warm.
Ye Bo was eating quite happily anyway—even if it wasn't very authentic.
Professional players don't necessarily have to eat "fancy" or "high-end" cuisine; aren't they just ordinary people too?
That's what Ye Bo thought; he didn't feel there was anything wrong with Shaxian, even if there might be a bit of a hometown filter~
However.
A team of a dozen people in uniform, plus several faces that were very familiar on the internet.
In this storefront facing the Magic City street, it was hard not to attract attention.
"Holy crap? Clearlove! Damn, am I seeing things? And Scout too!"
"What the hell, is that the whole EDG team? Didn't they just finish their match... and they're here eating Shaxian!?"
"4396! 4396! 4396!"
"Director! I'm really your fan!"
By the time they were finishing up, quite a few people had gathered outside, and the crowd was only growing, instantly turning into an offline fan meeting.
This strange team photo would undoubtedly be flying all over the internet soon.
And aside from some socially confident fans who walked right in to ask for photos.
There were many true fans hiding in the crowd, excitedly shouting the names of the players inside.
What was magical was.
From that obviously chaotic crowd, Ye Bo accurately picked out and heard one voice that seemed to be calling his name.
"Grandpa! You played well, Grandpa!"
Although there weren't many.
Ye Bo was very happy.
After the meal, the group quickly retreated and drove back to the base.
When Ye Bo returned to the dormitory, he told Flandre he was a bit sleepy and wanted to rest, then closed his eyes and lay on the bed.
Accompanying his call.
The virtual prompt box appeared before his eyes once again.
Solemn declaration: In Shaxian Snacks: there really is! No! Duck! Leg! Rice!
Thanks to the big boss "Ten Thousand People Like the Sea, One Body Hidden" for the 500-point reward!
