Chapter 64: Dyeing the Pale Army in the Color of Blood (Please follow/subscribe!!)
"What... is that?"
Looking at that figure which resembled a gray statue yet was slowly writhing, even though Joshua had already transformed into a demon, he still felt his scalp tingle; a fear originating from the depths of his heart caused his body to tremble incessantly.
It was the kind of loathing and terror from the depths of the soul that one feels upon seeing something that should not exist, upon seeing the appearance of a creation that defies the logic of reality.
Is it an undead? No, that's not right.
It is still alive.
Watching Gede, whose heart was still heaving and whose eyes had turned a solid golden color, an answer that was almost impossible—or rather, one that only appeared in theories—flashed through Joshua's mind.
That was a piece of knowledge that had originally been part of the power granted to him by the Dark Gods ever since he began to worship the Prince of Pleasure. But even though Joshua could now even tear off his disguise and reveal his true demonic form to the world, he could not believe that the legend within Chaos was actually true.
"You piece of trash... what exactly have you done..."
"How truly impolite, demons."
The man sitting cross-legged in the void rested his chin on his hand, looked at Joshua, who was gnashing his teeth in anger, and said with a light chuckle:
"This is a miracle of my own making, reversing Chaos corruption and saving humans from non-human existence. I have already accomplished an unprecedented, great deed; how about showing a little bit of reverence?"
"You damn bastard! You call this reversing Chaos corruption!!"
Watching the follower of the Blood God, whom he loathed, standing dull and motionless like a statue, Joshua opened his maw and roared with a mix of anger and fear:
"What did you do to his Soul! Do you even understand what kind of thing you have created!"
That fear, which penetrated to the bone marrow, had a very clear source.
It was a Soulless One.
A monster that should not have appeared, a monster that could not possibly exist in reality.
Without a Soul yet still alive, having lost life yet still able to speak and act, as if the common sense of all things had dissipated entirely; even the Dark Gods would be shocked by such cruelty.
Inside that massive monster, there was nothing left, only a layer of golden fire of destruction burning away.
But... why would a Soulless One have traces of the Blood God's divine power?! "Hahaha, of course, it is because I have already embarked upon the Path, and am about to lead you toward a more gentle era."
Looking at the shocked demon before him, the last bit of magic power in Li Ang's eyes was filled by the void path.
'War Path second stage complete!'
'You have grasped a portion of the true meaning of the War Path! You can now mobilize the power represented by the War Path to perform miracles within your power range!'
'War Path third stage, required number of living sacrifices: 1,000,000'
While hunting demons and Fairy, naturally, a certain Path of Blood had already been set on the right track.
Having already used Magic and psionics to begin analysis and obtain results, Li Ang was now capable of even such things as this.
The greatest pleasure in this world is power, and the second greatest pleasure is the solving of puzzles. And now, Li Ang held the keys to both of these greatest pleasures in his own hands. He was never a slave to civilization, but its creator.
How could he possibly have any reason not to love everyone?
And how could he possibly have any reason to treat all of this with his own personal physiological desires? Now he was the one, and he was the all. There was nothing that made him feel happier than what he was doing now.
It was already time to save them.
"Purifying the Soul, erasing Chaos, this is the mercy I grant you. I have no other choice; although I can save most beings whose corruption is not deep, for those who have gone too deep, I can only reshape their state. Forgive me, this is also a necessary thing."
Looking at those poor people whose Souls were already riddled with holes, Li Ang sighed, extended a finger with a look of compassion, and pointed toward the massive World Scar in the sky.
The magic power of Chaos began to gather at his fingertip, and reality and the Xu Jing began to blur.
In the next instant, a chant that everyone could understand began to resound in everyone's minds in a low whisper.
"From the moment the living beings of this world left the ruins, they became travelers.
Facing this strange world, they pinned their slim hopes on the future and stepped onto the directions pointed out by the four Paths.
Yes, there is one Path that points it out like this." Like drawing a card, unimaginable power gathered at his fingertip, finally transforming into a ray of dark red light that shot into the World Scar in the firmament.
Something was coming.
Whether they were players or conscripted militia, all looked up at the rift that was gradually staining into the color of blood.
"That Path of plunder shows the result of people forgetting their essence for the pleasure of struggle, thirsting for blood and slaughtering one another.
Blood, crimson, struggle; only those who transcend courage and righteousness, casting aside fear and sorrow, can stand on the final battlefield. To become the sole Warfire Overlord.
This is the War Path."
His finger tapped down lightly.
'Crack'
A sound like something shattering transmitted from the world itself.
The sky shattered in an instant, and crimson light surged out from the gap of the World Scar, covering the entire firmament.
Everything was shrouded in a ghastly crimson, making people feel a metallic taste rising in their throats. Even more terrifying was that what followed was not salvation, but an increasing amount of visual and sensory distortion.
One after another, pale things seemed to have received a summons, falling from the void and slowly unfolding on the ground. Deformed long horns, damaged scales, dull pale faces. One after another, faces that once seemed familiar appeared on the ground, slowly unfolding their ash-like bodies and looking toward the front line with golden eyes.
'What on earth are these things!'
'Don't panic! Do not panic! Form a defensive line! Form a defensive line!'
'Brother!!!'
'They're just a bunch of Soulless Ones, watch me push them back!'
The front line was in chaos; many demons didn't even bother to hide anymore, revealing their hideous and terrifying bodies as they roared and regrouped the defensive line.
Faced with those pale monsters whose uncanny valley effect was beyond measure, even the demons looked amiable by comparison. Under the illumination of the blood-red war light, these players, militia, and even demons transcended their mutual barriers and began to form defensive lines like madmen.
But, does this have any meaning?
"Hehe, even I feel that this scene might be a bit too much."
Amidst the terrified screams of countless people and the red light, Li Ang smiled at the demons before him, sat cross-legged in the air, and snapped his fingers.
"But there is no other way; my fortress and my people are all resisting the demons your master is using to strike at the barrier, so I am also sorry for leaving you with a bad impression. Do not blame me; it also pains my heart to see you get hurt."
"I have said, I love everyone. Because the sooner you submit to me, the more you will be able to feel the source of my power and faith."
"I am you, and you are me. It is just that simple."
"Therefore, Pale Army, let them repent."
"..."
There was no sound, yet those hundreds of Pale Army soldiers one after another extended their withered palms.
Spines protruded, bodies crumbled, and countless pale things slowly stood upright under the illumination of the red light; dark red sigils pulsed along with the veins and vessels of their limbs, flickering on the surface of their skin like blood amidst the madness, supporting their ash-like bodies.
Their expressions were frozen in numbness and calm, but only their pale golden eyes and that intense sense of destruction supported the driving force that propelled these monsters forward.
"Cha... os..."
A hoarse voice surged from their throats, carrying a desire for destruction.
The terrifying flesh, having lost its Soul, each dragged out some incomplete blood-colored blades from the void of red light.
Then, slowly but with the sound of thunder, they spurred the warhorses that had appeared beneath them at some unknown time and were shedding ash, beginning a charge toward that chaotic position filled with the fearful screams of players and militiamen.
"Exterminate, kill!"
