Chapter 9: Wonder Construction: Stonehenge (Magic)

~8 min read 1,516 words

The polar night, a phenomenon that frequently occurs within the polar circle.

Sunlight cannot pierce the Veil cast down by the Dark Gods; the evil twin moons forever radiate a purplish-blue glow in the sky, scattering curses across the entire world.

And the aurora dancing and twisting in the night sky represents nothing less than the wild laughter and disdain of the Dark Gods. They use the most beautiful of forms to forge the world's most terrifying malice, using it to remind all Humans of what they should look like in this world.

During the polar night, Norscans often hide inside their rooms.

They pray before their idols, begging the Dark Gods to have some mercy upon their humble selves.

Countless sins and cruel atrocities spread through the eternal night, and the nightmare beasts of legend run rampant, crushing the hopes of all Norscans.

It is precisely because they survive in this frozen, sickly world that Norscans are so frenzied and cruel. They will stop at nothing to ensure their own kind can survive.

Even if it means sacrificing other species, or leaving the future blurred and unclear, it is all the same.

Yet, this phenomenon has eerily dissipated on this polar island.

Even though it is night, the time when all twisted creations are most excited, and even though ripple-like auroras are already shining in the sky, the Norscans stand on the snow and hills without feeling any Corrosion.

Looking up at the twin moons and the brilliant aurora in the sky, the light that could twist and mutate Humans into egg-like objects has lost its evil Magic.

It is as if it were merely a form of illumination, a natural phenomenon.

A pale green light covers the snowfields and hills, illuminating the figures of the busy Norscans.

Amidst the ice and snow, they hold invisible tools, using their own will to look toward the pitch-black hills, and then pull massive rocks out of the mountains out of thin air.

The Norscans, having accepted Li Ang's orders, are utilizing productivity creations related to the Ancient Ones' laboratories that they fully understand, pulling huge rocks out onto the hills and beginning to erect them step by step on this snowfield.

These black rocks float in mid-air in defiance of common sense, reflecting the aurora forged by the gods of the sky.

Below, the people use void-like productivity to forge the magnificent Wonder that exists in their minds.

Stone by stone, they begin to interweave and float in the void; as the Stonehenge is gradually constructed, everyone even feels as if some strange, whispering voices are coming from around them.

The construction of the Great Wonder is pulling at all the magical energy in the vicinity, even causing the Veil between reality and illusion to fluctuate. The demons in the void whisper, their malicious gazes enough to make any unprepared ordinary person scream in madness.

However, to these Norscans who are manipulating the Ancient Ones' creations, the gaze of the demons is laughable.

They are putting the will of the Old Master into practice, and no one can stop them.

"I thought I was a goner at first, Wufuruike."

The man wearing a wolf-skin hood let out a burp, stood beside Wufuruike with a relaxed expression, and said with a chuckle while looking at the Stonehenge floating in the sky:

"It's hard to imagine that not even a single day has passed. This morning we were still worrying about lunch, but now we are enjoying the food of gods and manipulating mythical tools to create a Wonder."

"Indeed, I even thought he wanted to turn us into sacrifices after we were well-fed."

Watching the Stonehenge trembling under the green aurora and radiating strange Magic, Wufuruike felt the instinct to manipulate it in his mind and took a deep breath on the ice field.

This was something impossible to do in the past.

With the aurora arriving and the twin moons rising together, all negative emotions and thoughts would turn into nightmares to erode one's inner heart.

But now? The Norscans eat the best food of their dreams, manipulate invisible divine power, and begin to forge the Great Wonder of legend, without even the slightest problem under the night moon.

There is likely only one answer.

"Because he is a god, though certainly not a god who understands the human heart."

Some fragments peeled off in mid-air, and indescribable patterns began to shine on the suspended megaliths. Wufuruike manipulated his tools and said quite firmly: "He cannot understand the existence of the human heart at all, that's how I feel. He simply cannot resonate with us."

"Maybe he just doesn't care?"

"He should care; at least when he said the contract and promise loved Humans, it shouldn't have been a lie, but I always feel his love is a bit problematic."

"To say that when he has given us such great grace, isn't that a bit excessive?"

"I know it's excessive, of course, but all of this is just inexplicable."

Watching the floating megaliths in the sky gradually shed their outer layers and Brand mysterious patterns, Wufuruike even began to grit his teeth. "If he really loves us, then at the very least we shouldn't be out here in the middle of the night building an inexplicable Stonehenge.

Furthermore, damn it, why do we know how to build a Stonehenge? Why do I know how to use these divine tools to trim stone?

I feel like my technique for building this thing is more practiced than touching a woman."

"I just hope today isn't a dream, Wufuruike. If it were a dream, it would be too cruel for us."

"Of course this isn't a dream. No one's dream is this noisy."

Listening to the whispers from another world growing clearer by the ear, Wufuruike's cheek twitched, revealing a somewhat dissatisfied expression.

"After all, to build this Stonehenge, we still have to exercise."

And the moment Wufuruike's voice fell, a huge rift suddenly tore open in the center of the snowfield surrounded by all the megaliths.

A chilling, venomous aura emanated from the rift, which looked nothing like a natural creation, and a massive demon, standing a full several meters tall, crawled out while cursing.

His gaze was the flame of sulfur, his voice the venom of a curse. Explosive shadows permeated the surroundings. Even just by his footprints landing on the snowfield, the intense brutality and Magic ignited the snow at his feet.

And this monster, looking at the floating stones and Norscans around him, roared in fury.

"You are truly courting death! Humans! You dare to lock down all the Magic in the vicinity?! How dare you be so bold!"

"I think that has nothing to do with us."

Wufuruike took the greatsword off his back and shrugged at the roaring giant demon.

"After all, we are just following orders. Why this thing must be done this way, or what it can accomplish, I don't know either.

But, you are indeed going to die."

"What? You lowly worm dare to—"

Before the massive shadow that walked out of the void could even let out a roar, the sharp sword in Wufuruike's hand was instantly thrown, piercing the tall demon's skull in the blink of an eye.

The massive, burning demon, standing several meters tall, fell to the ground instantly without a sound.

The Norscans present did not feel the slightest surprise at this scene and continued to build the floating Stonehenge.

For two reasons.

The first reason: in their architectural knowledge, to forge this great magical Stonehenge, each megalith requires a huge demon to provide the energy for manipulation. This is a necessary construction process.

The second reason is simpler. They feel that no one can beat Wufuruike.

"If you have any complaints, go find our boss, demon buddy; I'm just a laborer."

"But it looks like you all only dare to come for me."

Stepping on the demon's massive skull, Wufuruike slowly pulled his greatsword out of its brain and commented in a flat tone.

The dead demon turned into a handful of shadows in the blink of an eye, howling in an unnatural way as it was swept into the giant rocks floating in the sky, instantly transforming into a glowing Brand.

"Ten left."

Dragging his longsword to the side and placing it on a rock, Wufuruike sat on the edge, took out his prized fine wine from his bosom to take a sip, and slowly let out a breath.

"... Damn it, it's not even as good as what I drank at the Landing Site."

Bathed in the light of the Evil Moon, Wufuruike commented with some indignation.

And in his ears, the soft, fragmented whispering sounds soon rang out once again.

The construction was about to begin again.

I ask everyone to say something and post some comments to interact. If you think it's good, please recommend it; it's best to keep reading and not let the book sit in your library. This is really important to me! Thank you!
