Chapter 1365: Honor Challenge, Uvilon Remnants
Evereska, Dawn Plaza.
After the Ilfaran Crown King reminded the Elves of Evereska to search the Mythallar, the kings and leaders of the other four great nations also stepped to the front one after another, raising their voices—
"For the peace and stability of the Northland!"
"All witnesses, rejoice!"
"Let us welcome a brand new future!"
However, just as Xia Duo thought it was time for the celebratory segment typical of major ceremonies, the crowd behind him suddenly began to stir.
A voice full of resentment suddenly appeared, instantly drowning out the noisy sounds of the crowd—be they excited, sorrowful, impassioned, or dejected:
"Yilisheer, with all the kings and leaders of the Northland Alliance and the envoys of the Southern Four Kingdoms as witnesses, I wish to issue a challenge of honor to you."
Immediately following this, a gray-white figure dashed diagonally onto the Shuguang Taidi in the center of the plaza, standing directly before the Cormanthor Crown King, confronting him fearlessly.
In an instant, the entire Dawn Plaza fell silent; not a sound could be heard. Every Elf present seemed stunned by the scene before them.
What kind of existence was the Cormanthor Crown King? He had been quite famous a thousand years ago, and having ruled Cormanthor for nearly a thousand years since, merging a nation that was originally a loose alliance of several disparate forces into a single entity, he was a legendary figure throughout the entire Elf World.
That such an existence would be challenged to a duel of honor was unthinkable to all the Elves. The Cormanthor Elves, in particular, were clamoring and cursing, telling the challenger to step down, get lost, or even go die.
Seeing that the situation on the plaza was about to spiral out of control, the Ilfaran Crown King immediately acted to suppress the chaotic voices below the stage and came before the gray-white figure who had just rushed onto the circular platform, sternly rebuking:
"Who are you? How dare you challenge a king of the Northland? If you do not reveal your identity immediately, I shall treat you as one who holds the Alliance regulations in contempt and have you seized!"
The gray-white figure let out a cold snort, and the mist on his body dissipated, revealing an elderly Elf wearing a gray Mage Robe. However, the style of the robe he wore did not match the style of any of the Northland nations.
Needless to say, many Elves immediately cast suspicious glances toward the Kaitemier envoy among the envoys of the Southern Four Kingdoms, but that envoy offered no defense, merely smiling as he watched the performance on stage, his body not even moving an inch, as if the matter had nothing to do with him at all.
Besides those who suspected the Kaitemier envoy, there were also many who suspected the Ilfaran Crown King, including Xia Duo, who had known beforehand that the Ilfaran might be up to something.
If the Ilfaran Crown King hadn't spoken up just now, he might not have thought so, but the fact that the other party had spoken, and acted so deliberately, made it seem as if he had been waiting for that old Elf to take the stage.
But how could such a thing be calculated?
Could the Ilfaran really believe that that old Elf could defeat Kaifumu Yilisheer?
Xia Duo had seen the young Kaifumu Yilisheer in the Projection Plane; the other party was very young then, and his Spell skills were not particularly proficient. Perhaps it was the same in the Main Plane, but having held the Sword of Ruling for nearly a thousand years, even a pig should have taken flight by now!
Perhaps they were counting on that old Elf to launch a desperate attack to severely wound or even kill Kaifumu Yilisheer, but if such a thing happened on the very day the Alliance was established, would there even be a need for this Alliance to exist?
But if he could not defeat the other party, the so-called challenge of honor would only be reduced to a farce, and would instead bolster the prestige of Yilisheer.
"Perhaps there is something else I haven't considered?" Xia Duo pondered.
Meanwhile, the elderly Elf in the gray Mage Robe on the stage also stated his identity to all the observers:
"The last Guardian and successor of the fallen Kingdom of Lore, Uweilun—Hande Yisita!"
Uweilun?
The Elves present were shocked. Perhaps the Dwarves and humans had no concept of the Kingdom of Lore, Uweilun, but among the Northern Elf Kingdoms, the reputation of Uweilun was still very resounding; once upon a time, countless Elves had sighed over its destruction.
Many Elves at the scene, especially quite a few Cormanthor Elves, could trace their family history back to being Uvilon Remnants, but they had long since identified with Cormanthor. Hearing the name of their fallen homeland, they could not help but feel sentimental.
The Cormanthor Elves who had been clamoring for Hande Yisita to die were now silent, not just in speech, but in their hearts as well.
At this moment, Hande Yisita continued: "The reasons for the destruction of Uweilun are debated, but it is too far in the past to be verified. However, there are still many survivors of the Unification of Nations in the Listar Forest a thousand years ago who are still alive today!"
"What are you trying to say?" the Ilfaran Crown King asked at the appropriate moment.
"I want to say that during the Unification of Nations back then, the Uvilon Remnants were treated unfairly, and the ancestral lands of Uweilun were subjected to an illegal occupation that violated tradition and lacked all honor!"
Having said this, Hande Yisita faced Yilisheer again, gritting his teeth as he said: "You, King of the new Cormanthor, if you had truly fulfilled the duties of a king, I would not be appearing here.
"In a few years, Cormanthor might truly become the eternal and unchanging ruler of the Listar Forest from ancient times to the present.
"But are you a qualified king? Over the past thousand years, do you know how many Uweilun family names have perished, and how many Uvilon Remnants have been deliberately suppressed to the very bottom of society?
"Right here and now, I formally issue a challenge of honor to you!
"If I win, Cormanthor must return enough territory for the Uvilon Remnants to recuperate and thrive, and recognize their independent and autonomous status within the Cormanthor Sword Covenant;
"If you win, I, in the name of the last Guardian and successor of Uweilun, will acknowledge that Cormanthor possesses the indisputable right of rule and ownership over the ancestral lands of Uweilun, both legally and traditionally!"
After Hande finished speaking, the eyes of almost all the Elves, humans, and Dwarves turned toward Yilisheer. Yet at this moment, even when faced with such an accusation and challenge that was extremely detrimental to his reputation, Yilisheer did not show the slightest emotion, merely saying calmly:
"Are you finished?"
Seeing that Hande did not speak, Yilisheer chuckled, walked past Hande, and faced the observers below the stage directly. He stared for a few seconds, then said loudly:
"The Sword Covenant has long since reached a conclusion; the birth of Cormanthor is entirely reasonable, legal, and in accordance with tradition and honor. All citizens of Cormanthor may bear witness!"
At the end, Yilisheer turned abruptly to look at Hande Yisita: "But a king does not fear a challenge. I know you are merely a pitiful pawn pushed to the front by a mastermind, vainly attempting to divide Cormanthor. I do not blame you; instead, I will fulfill your wish, fulfilling your name as the last Guardian of Uweilun!"
