Chapter 1486: Interpreting Secret Scrolls, The Origin of the Curse
This is simply more explosive than a nuclear weapon.
At least nuclear weapons have limitations regarding industrial foundations, raw materials, and the like, but this King-Slaying Star doomsday disaster is just a piece of information.
As long as one masters the method to destroy the Dragon Madness Mythallar, wouldn't one be holding the lifeline of every living thing in the Main Plane at any time and place?
But after pondering it carefully, Xia Duo felt that the threshold for using the King-Slaying Star to trigger a doomsday disaster could not be very low; otherwise, after so many years, some psychopathic terrorist should have found an opportunity to destroy the world long ago!
It hasn't happened yet, so it couldn't be that the Elf Kingdom's social atmosphere is so positive and uplifting that there isn't a single terrorist who wants to destroy the world, right?
Then it must be that the execution threshold is relatively high, which is why terrorists haven't found an opportunity.
Xia Duo believes that if the Drow knew how to do it and had the ability to do so, they would have destroyed the world countless times during the many years they were banished to the Underdark.
……
Next, Xia Duo continued to chat with Crown King Akaola for a while about the legends of the King-Slaying Star. From the other party, he learned quite a bit of information he had never heard of before. Even if he didn't get the inheritance secret scroll of the Dragon Madness Mythallar this time, the trip was still worth it.
Soon, the time arrived at evening. The heart for the targeted cloning was nearing maturity. Beneath the milky-white membrane, a heart the size of a fist contracted and expanded, emitting a powerful signal.
"Crown King, the spellcasting materials have finished cultivating. We can proceed with the ritual at any time."
"Can we do it now?"
"Certainly, though I suggest the Crown King should rest for a while first to maintain a better physical state, which is conducive to the full exertion of the spell's effects."
"Very well. However, does Special Envoy Xia Duo need to rest?"
"No need, my state does not affect the spellcasting. If possible, please have the Crown King send over the Dragon Madness Secret Scroll as soon as possible."
Crown King Akaola was taken aback upon hearing this, then nodded in silence.
……
Shortly after Crown King Akaola left, the elf lady official who had been responsible for receiving Xia Duo arrived in the Secret Ritual Chamber holding a Secret Box.
"Special Envoy Xia Duo, this is the gift my King asked me to pass on to you."
"Mm."
Xia Duo took the Secret Box casually and checked it briefly. Only after confirming there were no issues did he let the lady official leave. As soon as she was gone, he opened the Secret Box impatiently.
There were not many things inside, just four sheets of Dam Leaf paper that were very common in ancient elven society but mostly lost today. It looked like Crown King Akaola had taken out the original secret scroll directly.
A trace of doubt flashed through Xia Duo's mind, but he didn't dwell on it. Regardless, he would eat the benefits that had come to his mouth first.
He casually picked up a Dam Leaf from the Secret Box and observed it carefully. This was the first time Xia Duo had seen this item in the Main Plane, and even in the Projection Plane, he had only seen it once.
This type of special paper is generally used to preserve spell information or certain secret information; it is a very formal preservation method in ancient elven society.
The long passage of time had not been able to take away its luster. Squinting, Xia Duo could clearly see the silver radiance rising from the surface of the leaf.
This was not the effect of a spell, but the inherent characteristic of the leaf itself: it does not burn in fire and does not soak in water; even without using any Magic, it can be preserved for hundreds of years.
Combined with Magic, one could almost say its shelf life was completely maxed out!
Beneath the radiance was the body of the leaf, covered in dense and complex patterns. Among them were those inherent to the leaf itself, those left by the Magic that recorded the information, and even more left by encryption measures.
At first glance, it looked like an incredibly exquisite handicraft rather than a piece of special paper processed from a native leaf that possessed a warm, lifelike Touch.
Xia Duo observed it repeatedly many times and confirmed that the encryption system on this page of special paper was not one he was familiar with. Of course, besides breaking the encryption, there were other ways to interpret it.
Generally speaking, Dam Leaf paper has one fallback interpretation method: igniting it with magical fire, whereupon the information contained within will burst forth in the leaf's unique silver radiance.
If one is lucky, one can capture all the information. Of course, even if one is unlucky, it won't be too bad; one can always capture some useful information.
In fact, creating a Dam Leaf Document and leaving information behind carries a deep sense of inheritance; if one wanted to keep it secret, one could simply leave no information at all.
Consequently, Xia Duo did not hesitate much and immediately ignited the first Dam Leaf.
Under the firelight, both the leaf itself and the secret script on it transformed into a mass of distorted silver radiance, eventually revealing a piece of text.
Although it was Ancient Elven Script, which differed slightly from modern text, it was not difficult to interpret, especially for someone like Xia Duo who had experienced ancient elven society in the Projection Plane; it would not be difficult at all.
"Worry is greater than fear?"
After a preliminary interpretation, Xia Duo discovered that the text preserved on this page was the posthumous work of an ancient elven Mage. Before dying, the other party had produced a batch of Dam Leaf Documents for inheritance out of worry over the collapse of the Dragon Madness Mythallar.
This should be a record similar to a summary, which included the correct interpretation method. If one only used the fallback interpretation method, one would lose some Spell Elements used to supplement the details of the Mythallar.
However, the impact was not significant; as long as one found the entire inheritance, even if one only used the fallback interpretation, one wouldn't miss much.
The creator had considered redundancy, and next, Xia Duo truly felt the "benefits" of that redundancy!
The second sheet used the correct interpretation method, but ultimately failed to obtain more information than the first, and there were no details about the Mythallar at all.
The third was much the same, only containing more personal expressions; it seemed they were not all produced by the same ancient Mage.
As for the fourth, which was the last one sent by Crown King Akaola, Xia Duo pinned his final hopes on it.
After all, Crown King Akaola had mentioned the Dragon Transformation curse, and since the first three sheets hadn't mentioned it, it had to be the fourth one.
Or perhaps Crown King Akaola was still holding something back, though that possibility was not high. Would the other party not be afraid that he might also hold something back during the upcoming Longevity ritual?
At the very least, these four sheets should be able to cover the information the other party mentioned earlier!
Xia Duo was expectant!
……
The interpretation of the fourth sheet was slightly more complex than the first three. Upon getting his hands on it, Xia Duo realized that this one should have the goods. Sure enough, after completely removing the encryption:
The silver patterns on the surface of the leaf shifted several times, turning into familiar Ancient Elven Script. Among them, some patterns involving the details of the Mythallar were faintly Condensing wisps of energy, as if projecting some of the Mythallar's characteristics over.
Xia Duo finished reading quickly. There were still no words like "Dragon Transformation curse" in it, but that didn't matter, because if nothing went wrong, this page of paper should be the origin of the "Dragon Transformation curse".
The talk of a curse was not something Crown King Akaola knew from the inheritance secret scroll, but something summarized from real-world cases!
It should be some Mage or perhaps several Mages from Akaola's history!
