Chapter 1505: Good Things Take Time, Gathering
That afternoon, Xia Duo accompanied Iolum to the Mills Mage Tower, which was subordinate to the Morien Tower in the Old City District; the research on shielding Monitoring Divine Art, led by the Seven Towers, was housed there.
There, Xia Duo met that Gold Elf Main God Priest from Yierlan, who was also a tall, sturdy, graceful, and generous Gold Elf Mage with a kind smile.
In Yierlan, there was also a faith in the Elf Main God, but the atmosphere of faith was not intense, and in terms of the number and proportion of priests, it was far inferior to Cormanthor; the Cormanthor Elves' self-proclaimed title of "Chosen of the Main God" was not without reason.
Although they were all Gold Elves, just by looking at their attitude toward humans, one could basically determine which country they came from.
According to this Gold Elf Priest from Yierlan, Yierlan currently had no more than three priests who had mastered Monitoring Divine Art, and this included him.
Xia Duo did not understand whether this was to flaunt Yierlan's undiminished friendship with its allies, or to prove Yierlan's tacit approval of Cormanthor's Limitation of Magic Proposal.
But regardless, since Yierlan was currently at least willing to send such a priest to cooperate with Netheril's research, they had to make full use of it.
This research was mainly divided into two projects conducted simultaneously: one was the test of the shielding effect against Monitoring Divine Art—simply put, it was having the priest Tairuinuosi from Yierlan monitor the area where Netherese Mages were casting shielding spells.
The other was to analyze the impact of Divine Magic on the real world, attempting to find the Principles of this divine art from the root, so as to evade it more directly and effectively.
The two projects were closely linked and kept information exchanged at all times to achieve a mutually promoting effect.
It was conceivable that the most critical point of this research was the priest Tairuinuosi; if he played any tricks, it would be interesting.
After visiting the two projects and before even leaving the Mills Mage Tower, Xia Duo expressed his concerns to Iolum: "If we only pin our hopes for shielding research on Tairuinuosi, don't you think the risk is too high?"
In fact, there was one more thing Xia Duo did not say: the Seven Towers accepting aid from Yierlan largely meant accepting Cormanthor's Limitation of Magic Proposal.
Although the specific terms might still need to be discussed, the general premise could already be seen.
Regarding Xia Duo's concerns, Iolum felt the same way; it was not that he did not trust the "Elf" character of Tairuinuosi, but as long as such a possibility existed, it had to be guarded against.
After thinking for a moment, he told Xia Duo: "No need to worry too much; whether Cormanthor's proposal can eventually succeed is still an unknown! And as far as I know, the Seven Towers has already contacted Akaola, but although there are also Elf Main God priests there, they have not been able to obtain the new Monitoring Divine Art; I am afraid they will have to wait until they send priests to Cormanthor."
Even so, were the priests of Akaola really trustworthy?
Even if both priests were very trustworthy, was the Elf Main God who connected them trustworthy? It was not impossible that the source of the divine art had been tampered with!
Even just based on what Iolum thought of, there were several ways to incite misunderstandings among the three parties here in Netheril.
"Then can our experiment continue?" Xia Duo asked again.
Iolum considered it for a moment and said helplessly, "Let's slow it down for now!"
Although the Limitation of Magic Proposal had not yet passed in the Northland Alliance, the divine art had already appeared, and Netheril did not yet have much understanding of that Monitoring Divine Art; continuing the experiment might risk a leak.
In fact, even if the new divine art had no effect at all, as long as Cormanthor said so, Netheril could not take it lightly.
Iolum's answer did not exceed Xia Duo's expectations, but he never expected that just as the Independent Arcane Fire Device was about to be completed, such a thing would happen.
It was truly too unlucky!
Perhaps this was what they called "the course of true love never did run smooth"!
Returning to the Arcane Union, Xia Duo did not go to the Laboratory; the David String material project team could operate without him, and the device that Luowei and the others were building had already been suspended.
Cormanthor's Limitation of Magic Proposal stated that as long as it involved the tenth layer of the Magic Net, it was considered large-scale magical activity, and the Independent Arcane Fire Device was naturally among them.
Although not all construction processes needed to involve the tenth layer of the Magic Net, many key positions did; without those key steps, construction could not continue at all, so it was fortunate to stop it altogether.
After returning to his residence, Xia Duo suddenly found himself idle and was not used to it for a moment, but thinking of the Elves' Monitoring Divine Art, he was unwilling to be idle for even a moment.
Although the Seven Towers had already begun shielding research, Xia Duo could also think of countermeasures himself; as the saying goes, "many hands make light work," perhaps he was just missing that bit of inspiration!
Just as Netheril was overwhelmed by Cormanthor's Limitation of Magic Proposal, far away in the east, the Elf Court in the Listar Forest was a scene of joy.
"Raise your glasses!"
"Drink to the Holy!"
Amidst the clinking of glasses, Faluo felt a bit lightheaded and, holding his wine glass, said to the Mages: "The Main God is very satisfied with everyone's contributions and performance; if you have any requests, feel free to bring them up together."
Once these words were spoken, the high-level Mages at the banquet shifted their gazes and exchanged opinions, but for a moment, they were still unsure whether Faluo's words were a probe or truly came from the Main God's instruction.
Just then, Xierdalanna could not care about that much anymore; she held her wine glass and paced slowly to Faluo's side, asking softly:
"I would like to borrow the 【Betis Secret Scroll】, may I?"
Although her voice was soft, everyone present was an Elf, and none lacked keen hearing; hearing Xierdalanna's words, they could not help but prick up their ears, wanting to hear how Faluo would answer.
One must know that before today, Faluo had never lent out the 【Betis Secret Scroll】; no matter what reasons countless borrowers gave or what they offered in exchange, Faluo would always flatly refuse.
To read the 【Betis Secret Scroll】, one could only go to the Tower of Governance in Kemansuoer and, under layers of supervision, read it for a short while!
This was clearly insufficient to satisfy the desire of the high-level Mages for the 【Betis Secret Scroll】!
Especially for those high-level Mages from Yierlan, watching with their own eyes as a former vassal gradually grew stronger relying on the 【Betis Secret Scroll】, it was simply impossible to say they were not curious or covetous.
It was just that although the 【Betis Secret Scroll】 was kept by Faluo, it came from the Main God, which made the high-level Mages, even in the face of such temptation, only able to read it through normal channels.
Or they could try to see if the Netherese's Protection and retaliation were strong enough.
Clearly, the Netherese, having suffered a loss once, were unlikely to suffer a second one; with Faluo as the remaining option, these high-level Mages clearly did not want to let their nearly eternal lives be lost at the hands of a group of short-lived beings.
