Chapter 153: Fate's Revelation

~7 min read 1,242 words

Right inside Sain's office, Lord Aipusi, the newly promoted Arcanist Aiboke, and Town Mayor Sain discussed back and forth, yet they could not think of any better solution.

Aipusi sighed, deeply feeling the difficulty of managing the territory, "Aiboke, Sain, I have decided. Once the turmoil in the town subsides a little, I will head to Seventon to meet that Lord Olong."

Aiboke and Sain remained silent; they also knew this was the most viable method for now.

"Sain, you must pacify the territory. I do not wish to hear anyone in the territory linking Her Highness the Princess's statue with Demon Summoning again."

"Yes."

"Aiboke, before I head to Seventon, you are to investigate in secret within the territory to see who exactly is framing us!"

"Understood."

"Wait!" Lord Aipusi, who was flipping through documents on the desk, suddenly saw a special record, "Aiboke, start by investigating this olive grove anomaly first. I feel there might be some connection between these two matters!"

"Olive grove?"

Aiboke took the document and flipped through it carefully; it stated that someone had cast mysterious Magic on the territory's olive grove, continuously attracting Goblins to attack.

"Sain, what is going on here? Why not contact an Official Mage to handle it?!"

Aiboke knew the significance of the olive grove to the territory; besides bringing in money, its output was also a medium for maintaining good relations with the Elves.

If there were any losses, the Elves would not understand your difficulties; they would only feel you had broken your word. Someone stirring up trouble here was no different from using the Princess to frame them.

"I only just learned of that matter myself. I had been preparing for the spring expansion and neglected this side, but fortunately, it was discovered in time."

Sain looked apologetic. In the short time the Lord was away, he had indeed been a bit careless. The territory had been peaceful for so long, he had not expected all these things to appear at once.

"Alright, Aiboke, don't blame Sain. When it comes down to it, someone is deliberately targeting us. Even if it weren't the olive grove, it would be somewhere else. Passive defense will always have loopholes, not to mention we were all away!"

Lord Aipusi comforted Sain and continued, "Next, we need to thoroughly comb through the territory to see what other hidden dangers remain and clear them out in advance, lest they cause big trouble again!"

"Yes!"

Afterward, the three discussed further, and Aipusi and Aiboke returned to the Mage Tower together.

The top floor of the Tower of Time, Lord Aipusi's study.

After the two teleported back, they each found a place to sit. Lord Aipusi summoned the tower spirit to ask about the recent situation inside the Mage Tower while chatting with Aiboke.

"Aiboke, I get the feeling you are a bit restless. Are you worried about angering Her Highness the Princess?"

"No, I am not too worried about the Princess. For so many years, the Princess's reputation has been very positive. As long as we can successfully make contact over there, this crisis should be resolved."

"Then why?" Aipusi was very puzzled. If it wasn't fear of the Princess's blame, what else would make a newly promoted Arcanist feel troubled and appear so restless?

Aiboke's gaze flickered, avoiding Aipusi's probing look. He did not answer the question directly, but instead asked a rather strange one, "Aipusi, do you believe in fate?"

"Haha!" Aipusi suddenly laughed, "Aiboke, since when do you play these kinds of tricks? Does believing in fate really matter to us Mages? Or did your god give you some kind of revelation?"

Aiboke had many titles: he was a Mage, a newly promoted Arcanist, a Bard, and a follower of the Magic Goddess.

But if one really had to speak of something related to fate, perhaps it was that bit about being a follower of the Goddess. Of course, the Faith of a Mage is what it is; if the Goddess really sent down a revelation for this, then this revelation would be far too cheap!

Aipusi just assumed Aiboke was joking with him and did not take it to heart, but Aiboke's expression suddenly turned serious, and his voice became grave:

"Aipusi, I am not joking. Perhaps it is a god's revelation, perhaps it is some other reason, but I must say, I saw fate when I advanced."

"Fate? Whose fate? Mine?"

Aiboke's heavy tone made Aipusi believe his words, but only to the extent that he had seen some kind of revelation. As for the so-called theory of fate, Aipusi still scoffed at it.

But he was also very curious about this so-called fate, "Aiboke, tell me, what kind of fate did you see?"

Aiboke sighed in his heart. Although he himself detested the theory of fate, the revelation during his advancement was so profound, and now he had even seen the signs, so he had to warn Aipusi to be careful.

"At the moment the Arcane Fire was born, I saw a scene of you being struck by a piece of Elven Magic."

"Elven Magic?" Aipusi frowned, clearly considering this possibility, "Could it be because of the olive oil trade? No, impossible, the Silver Leaf Family has no reason to do that! Aiboke, what else did you see?"

Although he did not believe in fate, he could view this revelation as a special prophecy, and as long as it was a prophecy, it could be changed. Aipusi believed a Mage's fate was always in his own hands.

If he were to commit suicide now, wouldn't this so-called fate be a joke!

"I also saw ice and snow."

"Ice and snow?" Aipusi murmured, his brow furrowing deeper.

It was now early spring, and the ice and snow outside had already begun to melt. If Aiboke's revelation was not for now, then it would be at the earliest in winter.

But recently, he would remain in the territory. Even if Elves came, with the support of the Mage Tower, he was not worried at all. And if it were winter, it would likely have nothing to do with the current affairs of the territory; as long as he handled it carefully, it should not be hard to avoid.

Even so, this so-called revelation or prophecy still left a thorn in Aipusi's heart.

And Aiboke persuaded him again, proposing a possibility—

"Aipusi, I feel that when it involves Elves, whether it is fate or prophecy, this matter needs to be treated with caution. Furthermore, Feierbosi of the Liyadun Chamber of Commerce died in the territory; perhaps the Elves will use this to make trouble."

"Feierbosi? That shouldn't happen." Aipusi was relatively confident about this, "By his generation, the Elf bloodline had long since thinned to be no different from an ordinary human. How could the Silver Leaf Family make trouble because of this!"

"Let's put the Elf matter aside for now. The most important thing currently is to comb through the territory and guard against anyone stirring up trouble. As long as the territory is stable, nothing is a problem."

Aipusi knew very well that Archmage Olong was unlikely to recruit him just because he was a 12th Level Mage; it was more likely because the Savile Territory had something worth utilizing.

Once he figured this out and kept the territory firmly in his control, he would have some room to maneuver.
